October 2013 - Car Rental

thanx

don't think you'd be able to beat that rate

yes I figured my dates are nailed down and I can be done with checking prices daily! If anyone is willing to do prepaid, the codes are RQ: VSTPTE
PC: 182092. The RQ is for rates starting at $9.99 and the PC code takes $10/day up to $30 for weekend dates.

Just for fun, I checked my dates with Dollar via the 15% off link on their homepage and got $170.xx all in for an 8 day full size rental at the beginning of October (5-12). Still sticking with the Alamo reservation for $169.xx, but wanted to give a heads up to those still searching.

I just double-checked Dollar as well and grabbed a full-size for $120 inclusive for one week using the 15% code too. I ended up cancelling the Firefly ressie that was $165 for the same car (Dodge Avenger). I'll keep looking. This is like a game to me:lmao:

What Alamo code did you use to get a great rate? I'm not doing well with Alamo, but would prefer it for the free second driver.

cars shown are representative of what you'll receive in the class your booked, not necessarily an avenger (nice car, just passed mine onto DS;))

nice rate! what day does your trip start? rates were crazy high when I just checked for Dollar.

The catch is that I booked this rate back in JULY! Haven't seen Alamo anywhere near that price since then :confused3

Just saw that you got a good rate with Dollar....pretty good for a 10 day rental :)

Hoping to see rates drop even more these next couple of weeks, but after following the September thread, I'm not so confident that is going to happen. Let the waiting game begin!

I'm holding on to 2 reservations from Oct 31 to Nov 9. With national I'm at 259 and with Dollar I'm at 187. I've use National and Alamo in the past and know how it works with tolls and so on. Can someone tell me a bit more about Dollar. If I get dinged 8$ a day more for something that I don't need AKA sunpass, then I'll be sticking with National. At least I get the exec aisle and get to pick the car that I want.

8 days. Oct 12th-20th. Holding a National KLM code w/ entertainment book coupon @ $231 and the Firefly @ $165. I must be hitting the wrong days on the Dollar website, I'm not coming close to the firefly rate. The game continues....

I was just able to book a full sized car for ten days at Alamo using Visa ID 7015504 and Coupon Code AD7394SDJ for $208 (Sanford). It's ten dollars more than my dollar res, but with the insider free driver and self service kiosk it's probably worth it.

it amazes me how the rates ebb & flow by date and even by the minute you book!

It amazes me that it hasn't changed for me in the last month. Not up or down. I'm renting in Louisiana and driving so maybe that's why?

My National rate has stayed exactly the same since I booked it in May.

Can anyone tell me what kind of liability I am looking at with not having a 2nd driver with dollar? My husband will only drive, I can but choose not to unless he is unable for an unforseeable reason. We are both insured on our auto policy. So...if I HAVE to drive, what's the worst case scenario?

Call your insurance provider and ask them then you'll know for sure.

From what I found with some Google-ing, your insurance company could refuse to pay a claim because the contract with the rental company is voided if you violate the rental terms by allowing a non-authorized driver to operate the vehicle.

From Peter Greenberg, on AARP's website:
First, an unregistered driver is not covered by the rental company's insurance, so if he or she were to have an accident while behind the wheel, the insurance wouldn't pay. Your own auto insurance company could also legally refuse any claim you submitted if the unlisted driver caused the accident and the company learned that he or she was not authorized to drive the vehicle. In addition, the unregistered driver could technically be arrested for stealing the car if he or she were caught by the police without the registered driver in the vehicle. So if you plan to share the driving duties with another person, play it safe, and declare that up front. Make sure you both provide proof that you're licensed.

Change to Budget where the spouse is included free. Their rates on carrentalsavers.com are down for Oct right now, maybe not as good as your Dollar rate but better maybe if you have to pay $10+/day for an additional driver with Dollar.
