***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

Hoping to come to Disney for a week the beginning of October. My niece's birthday is October 1st and she will be turning 11 we missed her big 10 birthday last year. But we are all waiting on the okay from my Dad's company on honoring his free all paid weeks vacation for being loyal to the Construction company he has worked for 25 years by now its almost going on 30 years as he received his certificate for the free vacation a few years ago and has not had the chance yet to use it because 2010 they had to lay him off during the winter because of lack of work and 2011 he injured his left rotator cuff and has had surgery this past fall and he never healed because of either the surgeons fault or the doctor applying the nerve block. Thus he has been off all winter and before he has to quit working for good he would like the company to honor his free vacation. I am not sure if we will stay Onsite, Off site, or on the Gulf and drive up to Disney for a day or two for the Disney fans. It will be me I'm 30, my brother(28), my older brother(40's), and his daughter the birthday girl(10), my mom(61), and my dad(59). But my older brother wants to bring her daughters cousin along for a similar age ride mate. Me, my parents, and my younger brother live in Western PA and my older brother, his daughter, and cousin live in Myrtle Beach SC. So somehow we both have to separately arrive in Orlando, they may drive we may fly or take Auto Train. I'm just so excited to plan everything and I should know soon either we can go or not. But I'm a born planner, and trip planner, so the planning is half the fun, Oh and I love the fact we will be there during Epcot Food and Wine, but I don't drink but I love to snack around the world so what is a few more countries.

Welcome :goodvibes Planning is my favorite part of the trip! Snacking around the world is great! Hope it all works out for you! :)

My mom and I finally decided. We're going down October 4th in the evening or early October 5th (I'm hoping for the 4th personally because the 5th is my actual birthday). I'm SUPER excited. The last two years, we celebrated my birthday but we celebrated early (in September) but this year I will actually be there on my birthday. It's my 21st birthday so I can enjoy food and wine AND MNSSHP (already planning my costumes. One is DEFINITELY Katherine Plumber from Newsies the Musical!!!). ...Is it October yet? :rotfl:

About how much was "shipping" for the MNSSHP tickets? I am about to call and get ours ordered, but wanted to tell my DH how much the total would be... Thanks in advance!

Just got bac from a quick two day hit at the boardwalk w/o kids. Pumped up for October food/wine with the whole bunch!

Trip booked with Free QSDP since we are staying in Pop. We had it free last time we were there in October too and it was nice because we just paid OOP for the 2-3 TS meals we ate during the week and it was still cheap for the week overall.

So happy that everything is pretty much finished as far as vaca package, ADRs and my MNSSHP tickets already came and are put away in my "disney box".

Another day closer!!!!

WDW has announced some of the details for the upcoming Food & Wine Fest:

I am so excited!

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...nnual-epcot-international-food-wine-festival/

•Two new festival marketplaces: TERRA Marketplace offers vegan menu items, including Trick’n Chick’n Curry with Basmati Rice and Chili Colorado with House-Made Chips and Cashew Cheese. The FLORIDA Marketplace introduces fresh twists on regional flavors. There are more than 25 ethnic and regional marketplaces in all.

•Feel like a VIP with Marketplace Chef Tours. Each Wednesday, festival chefs host a walking-and-tasting tour around World Showcase with stops at several international marketplaces. You get to taste five marketplace dishes and five beverage items, like beer, wine and cocktails – and learn a few culinary secrets

•More kid-friendly tastes. Kids of all ages can try inventive new sips during the family’s marketplace dine-around. Pair with yummy bites like beef empanadas and cheese fondue (new this year).

•Don’t miss (free) Eat to the Beat! Check out pop acts like Smash Mouth (October 11-12) and Javier Colon, winner of “The Voice” (October 13-14). With 18 different bands, look for Blues Traveler (November 5-6) and Dennis DeYoung, original member of STYX (November 7-8). Night Ranger kicks off the concert series September 28-30, and other returning fan favorites include Boyz II Men, The Pointer Sisters, Sister Hazel and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

•Back for an encore: look for HGTV designers, celeb chefs, culinary demos and wine seminars, and special culinary programs – more than 270 chefs are showing off for the festival. And, yes, the fab Party for the Senses returns October 6, 13, 20, 27 and November 3.

We will be there too! All booked for 10/17-10/21. Can't wait for food and wine events and party for the senses! :yay::yay:

My birthday is the 5th also! I've seen several people on here with Oct. 5th birthdays going to WDW in October. It's a pretty cool club to be a member of. :lmao: I won't be there til the 20th though!

Woo hoo, so excited! I just ordered our MNSSHP tickets for October 30th!!!:banana::banana:

Not that I am knocking POFQ, cuz that is one of my favorite resorts, but did you know that part of AOA will be open during your travel time? My sister is going in October and was originally booked at Pop, but then changed to AOA. Just an FYI

Sorry for taking so long to respond...work's got me goin' like a 1-legged man in a butt kicking contest!

Our TA told us about the AOA opening, but we decided to stick with POFQ for the following reasons:

1. We already had the reservation
2. We wanted to try a moderate this time

Now...with that being said, our NEXT trip in December 2013 will have us staying there. My guy isn't 100% thrilled about being in "Ariel-land", but he'll get over it. :D

But for this year, my biggest dilemma is coming up with a Halloween outfit for me and ol' Grumpy. /sigh

POFQ was our first resort (first time hubby and I went together) and we loved it. We just loved the atmosphere and the boat to DTD.

When we got free QSDP in the past we upgraded to full dining because it basically was the cost of one TS dinner for our family of four. It was totally worth it. You might be interested in finding out if that would actually be cheaper than paying OOP of the 2-3 TS meals you were planning on. Great score on the free dining BTW!

We're arriving on the 5th and my birthday is during the trip too! (October 7th). Second time I've had my birthday at Disney World. It's AWESOME!

Hope you all have great birthday trips. No way will I ever go for my birthday. It's at the end of July. I'd never be able to handle the crowds or the heat and humidity. I'm afraid I might melt. :rotfl:

Is it bad to wish the summer away - looking forward to being in our happy place and it can't come soon enough!
