October 2012 or May 2013

Hi everyone, sorry this may seem like a pointless thread for many but I'm just after people's opinions.

We are currently trying to decide whether to go in October 2012 (it would have been September but we now have a wedding to go to on the 29th) or May 2013.

Our first son is due end of May this year so next October he would be around 16 months and next May he would be just under 2, therefore still free on the plane.

Here is my current thinking:

October 2012 pro's:

-I could book it sooner
-We have been around that time of year and enjoyed it
-Potential Free dining
-It's sooner
-Nice Weather
-Quiet


May 2013 pro's:

- Our son would be a bit older and may enjoy it more
- Art of Animation may be open
- Fantasyland could be complete
- More time to save

Does anybody have any idea which time of year is likely to be cheaper and how busy is May normally?

Sorry if this is a waste of most people's time we just can't make a decision on it

we tend to go in october as the weather is nice and our kids have a two week block off school. also you have all the food and wine festival at epcot and the halloween stuff in MK which is really good to experience.

We have been end may/early june once and man was it hot, I recall it was busier but maybe we didn't plan as well as that trip was pre dis! I think if you go after easter but before end of may crowds are lighter. Plus you get the flower festival at Epcot.

Tough choice!

Both the best times in terms on moderate crowds but nice hot weather. I'd say Oct 2012, just because it's sooner!

Hmmm that's a good point, I should check US holiday for both times as it would be first 2 weeks in either month I think.

Not quite sure when Easter Holidays are in 2013 in the USA.

I would go for October- wehave been a few times in October and its a lovely time to go
the one thing that would put me off May/June would be all the brazil school groups that are there at that time

My other reason for October is I would rather have a 15month old on my lap for 9 hours rather than a nearly 2 year old.

We took DD at 15 mths at the time of year and did MNSSHP and have some great photos with the characters all dressed up!

Are the first 2 weeks of October OK crowd wise, we have been the last 2 weeks of September and it was great but I noticed it's Columbus Day weekend in those 2 weeks.

I'm swaying towards October, do the dining offers tend to be released a year or so before?

Our daughter was 14 months first time we took her and we had no problems on the flight. We took a few toys and books and she was fine. We did get lucky and get a bulkhead seat from VA so the extra space helped.

I imagine by the time we go the planes would be the new airbus ones which seem to have a lot of seats in blocks of 2 so thats a bonus as we wouldn't have to bother people as much.

The flight was fine - took some new small toys and books and that kept her happy along with having a stroll around the plane.

Last May she was 22 mths and we bought her a seat and really appreciated the extra space and also by then she was getting heavy to be on our laps!

She has actually been 4 times and each time has been fine however I make sure I am prepared with things to amuse her. I start picking up new bits about 6 weeks before we go as I know then what she is into at the time.

For example we are going the middle of May and she turns 3 in June and I am just starting to look for things to pack in her trunki now. She is just starting to get in to princesses but is Toy Story mad - so these will be my starting point. I will get colouring books, couple of small toys and will load the iPad with films as she will now sit and watch them.

My current thinking is hoping that AoA is open and has availability for October 2012, obviously we wouldn't get the free dining but not over bothered.

I took a 15 month old on a flight to Orlando and everyone said 'goodluck' and rather you than me, but it was better than I thought.

Had a bulkhead seat and he slept most of the way, the cabin crew were great the only pain was not having a buggy while waiting to go through customs.
My little boy was a bruiser, and was very heavy to carry.

He is 6 now and doesn't remember that visit, but we have video and photo's to show him.

I think October 2012 is the time we'll be going, it's just a case now of trying to work out the best way of booking it to get the best price. Scary.
