October 2011...Who's all going? Vacation dates and lodging

just a quick fyi for you lovely ladies running this thread, after purouzing the pictures, there are a couple of links that the pictures are no longer there. the one that I remember distictly is barefootmomma's pictures. mommau4 weren't working when I checked, but I think that may be a flicker problem not a "picture not available" problem. The time I looked was around this afternoon, so my memory may be a bit fuzzy.

Kirsten - You mean in the Halloween Superthread, not this thread (this is the Check-In thread for DIS'ers' October trip dates and hotel listings)?

Jessica is the one in charge of the Table of Contents for the Halloween Superthread.

That does happen from time to time, where photo links suddenly are no longer viewable. People forget that they have posted photos somewhere and they move them around in their photo-hosting accounts, breaking the links. But if it's an account glitch with Photobucket or Flickr, it will probably resolve itself. But if it's a matter of mommu4 or barefootmommamoving their photos in their online albums, or the accounts expiring, then they would have to go in and copy the new IMG codes and put them in place of where the old photos were.

The same thing happened in the Christmas Superthread with Liza/funatdisney - she noticed that one of her photo links was no longer valid (she probably moved the photo in her album at some point or there was a glitch in the account), but she went in and copied the new IMG code to make sure the picture could be seen.

We can only do the Tables of Contents in both threads based on what we see at the time, but hopefully the DIS'ers who post their photos will occasionally check their listings to be sure their photos are still showing!

Oh, and by the way - thank you for the nice compliments on the Halloween Superthread!:goodvibes:goodvibes The 4 of us who worked on it did put quite a bit of time into it and into getting it organized (and I worked on that one as well as working on the Christmas Superthread - what an undertaking!:scared1:), specifically for the people on this board who need to be able to find information!

Thanks, you guys are doing a fabulouse job with this thread:thumbsup2. I wish the wdw side was like this one!! I'm getting so excieted!! Can't wait to read about the party from those going early on!!

Kirsten - Thank you so much! I hope you were able to find Zeitzeuge's Columbia photo easily in the Superthread (he takes some awesome photos)! Liza/funatdisney does a great job with keeping up with the Check-In dates and hotel listing in this thread (and 6smiles/Kris does a great job with the September Check-In thread), but we are also fortunate enough to have Liza's help in the Superthread! She is doing double duty!!

lol, yup, I'm a goofball. I was a bit tired when I checked into the boards last night and it shows. I did mean the Halloween superthread.:thumbsup2

We are going back this year!!! We went last year, are going again on Sunday (Mother's Day) for 10 days, and will return again this Halloween!

10/30-11/8 at GCH

I love it at Halloween time!!!

I have added your info to the first post, fellow Halloween Time enthusiast!

I am 99% sure I am switching from a WDW vacation to DLR... Our dates will be 10/23-10/27 and we will be staying at Desert Palms (I think...) This is a big leap for me, so I will be looking for lots of advice!

We are going October 19th to 22nd. Staying at either DLH or GCH.

Added your dates. Post here when you know which DLR hotel you book.

Well, I have added your dates to the first post. That means you are gong to DLR for sure. Its official! ;)

Please check out Sherry E's Halloween Superthread. You will find tons of information, pictures and tips about Halloween Time at DLR. There is a table of contents and links posted in the first few posts to help guide through the thread. Here is the link: Halloween at DLR Superthread

We have HoJo booked for Oct. 13-16, but am still open to switching to on-site if they run any more deals. Just can't do it now without a deal since it is so much more expensive.

Leilanie94 and smiles33 Welcome to DISboards!
:welcome:!

I have added both of your dates and lodging to the first post. Halloween Time at DLR is a great time to visit with all the fall decor. Have fun planning your trips.

Can I ask a follow-up question? I didn't post on the Halloween thread because we aren't planning on paying extra for the Friday night party at DL. My girls are under 5 and timid, so it doesn't make sense for us. Yet it seems like DL closes at 4 pm for the party? Does that means we get kicked out? Do you know if DCA is open to 7? Or are we just done at 4 for the day?

One thing to consider for the Halloween party is that if your girls are on the timid side....the crowds will be smaller during that time as only ticketed guests can stay in Disneyland. You don't have to dress up or trick-or-treat, but take advantage of smaller crowds, short wait times for the rides, watch the calvacade/parade & watch the special fireworks. Basically you can pick & chose what you'd like to do during that time.

Once the party starts, guest without tickets will be asked to exit the park & they can go over to DCA until closing. The crowds will be bigger due to being down to just the one park.

Last year when the MHP was held on a Friday, DL closed at 7pm (when the party started). Party tickets allowed ticket holders into DL three hours before the Party started. So between 4pm and 7pm, MHP ticket holders and day guests are in the Park together. Day ticket holders were asked to leave the park at 7pm at the start of the event. Day guests could stay on Main Street to shop. On Tuesday parties, DL closed at 6pm.

DCA was open later for non-MHP guests to visit. Last year, DCA closed at 11 pm on Fridays and at 8 pm on Tuesday.

In the first post of this thread, there is a link to the operating hours for both DL and DCA for the months of September, October and November in 2010.

Thank you both for the quick response, and thank you funatdisney for the earlier welcome and adding me to the thread!

I did read some of the Halloween thread but after learning more about it, i don't think it makes sense for us. Not only will the then 2 year old go to bed around 7:30 (8 at the very latest), but I am also afraid that the guests' costumes might scare my older daughter (who will likely still be a timid 5 year old). I already know we won't take them on HMH or POTC, so being at DLR in October will be more about pumpkins and hopefully avoiding any "scary" skeletons and the like.

Thanks for also clarifying that the 4 pm check in for party guests doesn't mean we have to leave at 4. I will be more than happy to stay at DL until 7 and then call it a night! DCA will probably be a short mid-morning run for us before lunch at Ariel's Grotto.

Thank you for sharing your expertise! I am learning so much here.

smiles33 - I just wanted to make sure you knew this, because I know it's kind of confusing with all the threads around on the DIS.:rotfl2: (You can imagine all the confusion last year when there were 150 World of Color threads.:scared1:)

The Halloween Superthread is not specifically about the party - in fact, the party is only one small aspect of the entire Halloween season that is discussed there, so you can always ask any question there if it pertains to any part of Halloween Time - and we have discussed (many times) the subject of when people who are not attending the party have to leave the park. We've got links to the times and calendar from 2010 as well, in Post #1. The Superthread is where I will be posting updates for any new info we get on the whole season. This thread will be part of the main Info sticky year-round, and I will just swap out the information with each year to make it more generalized.

This specific thread is the October check-in thread, which, like all the other check-in threads of different months, is for people who are going in October to give funatdisney their trip dates and hotels for possible meet-ups at DLR. We keep this one in the Meet sticky only until 2011 is over, and then we delete it.

Then there is a separate party thread (which funatdisney is also handling) that will be for people to post the nights they are attending the party (when the dates come in) and which costume they will be wearing - sort of like a check-in thread for the party only, in case people want to meet up, and this follows the tradition of previous years's party threads. We keep this one in the Meet sticky only until 2011 is over, and then we delete it.

Thanks, SherryE! It is a little overwhelming and I think I jumped to the wrong conclusion that it was about the Halloween party. Honestly, I am still intimidated by the sheer size of that Halloween thread (though that first post has lots of handy links). Lots to read!!!!

We are booked for 5 nights, October 2-6. There are 6 of us (mom, dad, son, daughter, and grandparents). We have two premium rooms reserved at HoJo (FYI: October 3, 4, 5 are Entertainment Book and AP rates). We are going to wait and see if any park hopper deals come up before October and snatch some. We were at Grand Calif. last September but as of now we would be looking at $3800 for there versus $1000 at HoJo. We are super excited! We want to do a beach day this time around and will probably hit Huntington or Laguna (we drive in from AZ).

smiles33 -

Don't be intimidated by the size of the Halloween Superthread! In fact, you don't even have to read the whole thread. You can jump in at any time and ask questions.

That's the good thing about that handy first page of the Superthread (Post #1 and Post #2) - you can kind of get an overall picture of what the season will be like, reading a bit of info here, a bit of info there, learning what things there are to see/do/ride/eat/buy, clicking on the specific links if there is anything that interests you, and then clicking on the links to see photos if those interest you. It's sort of a 'get the information you need when or if you need it' kind of set-up to save you the trouble of having to comb through all the 140+ pages in the thread! In the previous Halloween thread that became very active & popular early last year, there was no organization to it at all - and that was very overwhelming for anyone new who joined in, because they had no idea where to find certain bits of info.

I suspect there are quite a few people in the Superthread and on this particular October Check-In thread who are not going to attend the Halloween party at all. Some folks have already done it once or twice and don't feel the need to go back. Some folks don't think it's worth the money in the first place. There are many people who, I think, want to just go to Disneyland and enjoy the Halloween decorations and treats and goodies without dealing with a party too.

This describes us to a 'T'. We go every fall because we love the weather and the crowd level ... everything is open to decent hours, not as long as summer but longer than in Jan/Feb, but still not crowded like Xmas and summer. Never been to the Halloween party because a) its an extra ticket, b) don't really feel like dressing up on vacation (more stuff to pack! no!), and c) California Adventure is right across the way to enjoy, especially now that WOC is happening and I'm wishing on a star that they keep Electronica going until our big trip. We were there for the first night Electronica opened last year and I'll take that over a Halloween party any day, in fact if they made that a ticketed event that wasn't too $$$ I'd probably pay a $10-$15 cover for it. Hmm... there's an idea, they should make it a ticketed event and have one beverage be included in your ticket (maybe $20-25 w a drink?), then they could get some extra cash out of it too ...
While the MNSSHP sounds cool, really there's so much that's great about Oct in DLR w/o the extra ticket.
