October 2011 Car Rental Rates

It is. Starts September 25. My reservation also dropped to $102 today. 9 days, mid-size, all taxes included. I could have reserved a compact for $99.

is your res starting in Sept?

curious, i checked rates for alamo today for my dates, it dropped from last night, thanks for posting:thumbsup2

using the insiders corp id 7014667 (which hadn't been working up to now -supposed to expire in sept)

&

$35 off coupon American Airlines i found in a google search AD2359fdf

8 days now $195 for mid size

hoping national will fall just a bit more, if not will keep monitoring alamo & decide day prior to trip.

I currently have a Midsize through National (Emerald Aisle) for $238.69. That went down from about $270 as of Monday, August 29. I'm hoping if I keep an eye on it, it'll drop more. I'm using the AMEX Contract Code.

Oh, and my dates are Sept 29 - Oct 10 (12 days).

Try contract code 5504500. I found that gave me a mid-size emerald aisle for $157 for 9 days starting 9/25.

Just went down from SUV to full-size car (sure 4 ppl and luggage should fit!) was at approx $350 for oct 1-8...now at $148 for Sep 30-Oct. 8!!! YAY!!

contract id of 7014491 and logged into my alamo insiders account!

Pirategirl:

Where is the code 5504500 from? I got a good rate but I always question codes that I haven't seen before.

Thanks very much

Oh man, you all got me excited that my rates have dropped. Still can't get below $300 for even a mid-size. For me, it dropped from $319 to $315. :rotfl: Oct 15-24...not even columbus day or anything. Tried a few different ID codes and discount coupons while logged into insiders...oh Alamo...

National Emerald aisle coming up high at $400...with IDs/coupons...
Budget lowest at $297...for an SUV at least

Here's to optimism! :goodvibes

Dont get your underwear in a twist yet! I am in the same boat as you. My dates are 10/4 to 10/12. I have been backtracking the dates on National and it seems that right around Sept 25 or so the prices starts to creep back up. Just to illustrate if you were leaving next week or even the week after, the weekly rate is somewhere around the $100 range give or take. I too am getting a little impatient but if we just hold out a little longer our rates will come down as well. I know that I am straddling Columbus Day but I dont think I well be penalized for that.

Happy hunting!

Thanks! I needed to vent, and I needed the encouragement! :flower3:

Sam's Club. I used it last year twice and didn't have my Sam's Club card with me either time, nor was I asked for it.

Does Sam's have a rate for Alamo? I used the National rate and it was OK but with taxes it takes my 4 day rental to over $250 (yes, Columbus Day weekend). I was hoping to get it under $200. I have a Sam's membership but the closest store is almost an hour away so not too convenient for picking up the car rental info!

We have the same dates as you...feeling your pain. Really really hoping rates come down! Do you have an Amex? We have a midsize thru National EA for $320 using the Amex code and $35 off code.

Mr too, me too!! Our dates are 10/6-13 and am getting anxious too! Best I've found is $292 for a full size. Definitely am hoping for much better. Are you say somewhere around a week or two before our dates the rates may be better? Most of the rental co's still are showing their Sept coupons. I hope they get released before Oct.

Like I said before I have been tracking the rates for a while now. Unlike the past years I would get a reasonable rate now and as I got closer to my arrival, the rates would start going up. Now National and Alamo seem to come down two to three weeks ahead of time. If you go to National for fun and plug in next week's or the week after dates from say Tuesday to Tuesday, the rate is unbelievably low. I just plugged in Sept 20-27 and the base rate before taxes was in the $80 range with the Emerald Club discount. If you go any further out they go up. I would say that around next week of Sept for those who's dates are in the first week of Oct, to start checking every day. If the pattern holds true we should all be very happy.

Good luck!

I'm still trying to get a good rate with National for a 4 or 5 day rental, arriving 9/28 or 9/29 and returning 10/3, picking up at Dolphin or CCC. The best so far is $120.46 4 day midsize or $159.27 midsize 5 day. Alamo good deals seems to cut off at 9/26 but I'll be patient.

I rented through alamo for sep 30-oct 8 and got a full size for $143 after taxes....used id code 7014991 and was logged into insiders.

I'll join the mid and late-October club. We'll be there Oct. 21-26 and have an Alamo ressie for $256, but I'm really hoping that comes down a lot. I've been checking Alamo, National, Budget and Hertz weekly and that's the best I've gotten so far. I haven't been to this Transportation board in a while, but thought I'd see if there have been any good rates reported. *keeping fingers crossed*

joxer1014, thanks for the encouragement and research on timing of the rate drops!! That gives me hope that we'll all get better rates in the coming week or so! :goodvibes

What vehicle type are you looking at? Right nowi have 3 reservations, 2 with Budget for a intermediat SUV and Van for $358 from Oct. 22 - 30, and also a full size carat Alamo for $229 for the same period.

Alamo 4 day = $138.07 compact (7014139), Alamo 5 day = $144.47 compact (7014667),
using 7014991 it was $126.52 4 day and $158.33 5 day compact.

Joxer1014, thanks for the encouragement and the great research. I never thought about looking at rates that way!

I just checked my Alamo $292 rate is down to $260 inc taxes. Not where I'd like to see it but does help encourage me in the waiting game. Used Insiders code and AARP free day coupon. Strangely though the base rate is only down $7 from my $292 booking. The Insiders code, which I used with both rez, this time added an additional discount on the final page where it didn't before.

My dates are 10/19 - 10/24, but when I add the Alamo insiders code to my res request it says cars are sold out on those dates - without the code I get cars - do they limit the # of cars for insiders? I'd think they would make them more available to their regular customers, no?
