Hi all. We are a family of four from Australia and so excited that we are going back to WDW. We were there in late April early May this year and are now looking at returning in early October 2007. I am really confused on what crowds were like this year at this time. We will probably be there in the first two weeks of October and I know that you have Columbus Day holiday so we would not go to the parks that week end but what were the crowds like this year around this period. Some say that they were really quite while others say it was so busy they would not return??. We thought the crowds in April/ May this year were fine so would love if they were about the same. Any information would be great. Thankyou. :cheer2:

G'Day!

We were there from Sat Oct 14 to Sat Oct 21. Having been to WDW 50+ times, going regularly in October, I thought the crowd levels were moderate and reasonable. Epcot, especially in late afternoon and evening were heavier due to the Food & Wine festival but it was still quite manageable. On Thurs the temp hit a record 92 and Typhoon Lagoon was as full as I've ever seen it - you couldn't get a tube for Castaway Creek to save your life but there was plenty of room in the wave pool. Since our grand children are 4 and 5, we spent alot of time at MK and got to ride everything we wanted to on several days with only average wait times on the more popular rides.

We love October in Florida and will continue to visit WDW during that time - usually it's in the low to mid 80's and not as humid as during the summer.

I hope that is helpful to you!

October is our favorite time of year to visit WDW. We just recently returned from our trip (we were at WDW from Oct 7 to 14 and again October 20-22). The weather is quite warm during the day (high 70's to low 80's) the first week and even warmer the second (high 80's to low 90's). We didn't encounter any rain this trip but in 2005 there were few days where we had mid-day showers but nothing that lastest very long. Evenings were pleasant- not too cool. Crowd levels are also managable at this time of year, however did find that visiting the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot on weekends was extremely busy.

We were there Oct 6-14 which included Columbus day weekend. We did not feel crowded, certainly there were people everywhere but nothing that caused us to miss anything we wanted to see/do. Somethings we walked right into that I have read others have waited long times for (Festival of the Lion King comes to mind, we waited one minute for the door to the theater to open and walked right in, that was on Columbus Day itself). I would definitely go again at this time. The weather was fantastic, although for us it did rain one time (Friends of Pooh must not have been at Epcot on Thurs Oct 12) we can't complain since it was fairly brief and was the only day. Another reason I am glad we went then was because of the whole Wishes/Hallowishes scenario. We were able to see Wishes two nights and Hallowishes on our Halloween Party night.

Anyway, I found the crowds to be ok, we did need a few fast passes or we would have been waiting for 60 minutes or so but we expected that and made our plans accordingly.

October is a great time of year to go. I would avoid Columbus Day weekend, but other than that it's fantastic. I've gone the past 2 years in a row in october.

We are going in Oct 2007 too. Columbus day is the 8th by the way but we were there at the same time last year and the crowds were fine.

Thanks everyone you have made me fell much better about the time of year we have choosen. We are again so excited did not think we would be back for a very long time it cost so much from Australia but Yipeeeeeeee

What you need to keep in mind is the perspective of the people making judgements on crowd levels.

It's all relative. Yes, October has been busier in the last couple of years than it has been in quite some time. There are lots of special events, and we have fully recovered from the tourism downturn.

Put simply, the busiest day in October is still slower than the slowest day in July. So when people that are used to going every October may notice the crowds are bigger, they are still nothing like the real crowds when it's wall to wall during the summer and holidays.

You will find crowds comparable to the April/May time period you visited this year. They are similar times of year. It's not going to be dead, because WDW is never dead any more.

I'm sure you will have a great time. And don't worry about Columbus weekend either. It really doesn't appriciably increase attendance. It's only a 3-day weekend, and most people don't plan vacations around those.

Good luck!
