Hi guys!
Heidi, I worked in bridal store, so if you have any questions or concerns, just drop me a line. A few tips for you..... (take them for what they are worth) but......1. try on ALL types of dresses. Even if lets say you had your heart set on a strapless dress, try on at least 1 of the other styles just so you know that you don't like that style or you MIGHT like one you never thought you would. Try on ones with trains (long, short) and ones with removable trains and ones without. DO NOT buy a dress UNTIL you have tried on at least 8-10. Even if the first one you try on is THE ONE, go and try it on again and again with other people each time (or repeat some persons, you don't want to have everyone see it of course) I would recommend... your mom, sister, Chris's mom and of course the twins and I would take dad one time as well. I don't know if you have a favorite aunt or grandparent but them too if you would like. Even if everyone LOVES a dress on you but you aren't in love with it, DO NOT LET THEM TALK YOU INTO THAT DRESS. It is your day and your choice ( I know your family isn't like that, but some sales persons can be VERY pushy!!) 2. You need to decide on the time of year you are going to get married. Fall, Spring, Winter or Summer. Before you go dress shopping. 3. Once you decide a date, keep in mind, that some dress manufactors need at least 4 months to get you the dress and that DOES NOT include alterations which you want to give your seamstress at least another month so you aren't rushing them. 4. IF you decide to buy off the rack, TAKE the TIME to go over that dress with a fine tooth comb!!! Look for beads missing, ripes that might have been fixed by hand, stains and stains that have been removed. My experience with off the rack dresses is even though they are cheaper, you have to remember that others HAVE been in your dress and has tried it on. It isn't "officially" yours and only yours. Also, 9 out of 10 dresses off the rack has had "something" (some very very small) wrong with them or something missing etc. If you have the time, buy a new one and you will feel even more special. 5. Once you purchase the dress, take your dress out of the bag and let it hang in a room with NO NO SUNLIGHT and NO ANIMAL access AND in a dry place. I have had brides come to me, they bought thier dress a year ago or even 4 months ago and left the dress in the bag it came in from the store and somehow insects got into the bag and ate through the dress or it was exposed to sunlight and the dress faded in spots or it got wet and has water or mold marks. Now, those are the most extreme cases that I had seen when I worked in the bridal store, but it has happen. 6. When it comes to the bridesmaid dress, take ONLY 1 or 2 and I mean only 1 or 2 bridesmaids with you at first. Have them try on different dress styles. Let them choose no more then 3 for the rest of the bridal party to try on. Majority rules. Make sure YOU agree with the dress choices so you won't be unhappy with the choice. ALSO, make sure the dress YOU LIKE for them comes in the color you have choosen. I had a bride come in and choose a dress for her girls, it looked great on all of them, and then she found out it didn't come in the color she wanted! I have also seen a bride choose a color of dress (for example, periwinkle very pretty color between a light purple and blue) and told her girls they could choose any style as long as it was the same color. I have also had brides choose 3-5 dresses and told each girl to pick they style that they felt most comfortable in. The good thing with that is that the bride MADE sure that the dresses did come in the same color she wanted and each dress came from a "sister manufacturer" so she new that the colors would match. Just some points to ponder. You can take the info for what its worth, use some, all or none. Just wanted to give you some info from my experiences. If you would like more info, just ask! I love doing this kind of stuff.
Colors...... hmmm.... did we decide on a time of year? How many in the party? Age range of the people? I need some more info in coming up with some color choices.
Well, gonna go. I'll be back on later!
