October 19, 2008 4 day Bahama - anyone else?

we're about 1 1/2 hrs from cedar point.

I have been thinking about taking the kids there. It just seems funny going on a vacation to an amusement park when we live where we do.:lmao:

I think we are going to go to TN and visit Dollywood. That way we get mnts and rides. We don't see alot of mnts in FL.

I went to track my documents and it said they were delivered!?!? I checked the front porch and, sure enough, there they were!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1::dance3:

:welcome: Doug & family! LOL about the small mule train! I'm going to do my best to keep it simple in the packing department, with the exception of pre-shopping for some fish extender goodies. My DH grew up in South Bend and graduated from IU in Bloomington, so we're half hoosier here (living in WA now). We will be at All Star Movies & PO French Q from October 14 until the cruise. So I've been spending a lot of time mapping out how we're going to attack the parks, less time planning for the cruise. My son, Mitch turns 9 in a couple of weeks, so he and Nick will probably spend some time together if Nick goes to the Oceaneer Lab while cruising. I also signed the boys up for this pirate cruise on the 16th which departs from the Polynesian http://www.wdwinfo.com/holidays/halloween.htm#cruise Looks like fun for them!
Welcome, welcome, welcome:dance3: my DH Kevin and I and our boys David 10, Jason 8 and Ethan 6 will be at Beach club the 16th-19th and Jay and Ethan are also on the pirate cruise  David said no way:confused3Dave and Jay have October birthdays so this will make our first cruise extra special:dance3: I bought most of our drug store supplies yesterday WOW:scared1: We might have to cancel one of our excursions! Are your boys going to wear costumes on the pirate cruise? There is so much to pack!! I just tracked our Docs, thanks for the link!, and it said Oct. 1st soooo
a few more days:woohoo: I don't remember if I mentioned our room is 8012 for the fish extentder list:dance3: Anyone packing yet????:rotfl:

Cool! See you at the dock then for the pirate cruise! pirate: Tracy from Dreams Unlimited recommended that Pete & I take the monorail to Mizner's Lounge at the Grand Floridian for a drink while they are on the cruise. This will be our only time without the kids during the "land" portion of our trip. She had a couple of other suggestions, but that one looked the best to me.

What was on your list for the drug store? I will probably start packing next weekend. No, we're not packing costumes, they will just wing it with the free Pirate Mickey Ears, which they will also wear as their costume for the cruise. I might grab eye patches, but nothing that will take up any more space than that! I can't wait until we can look at the weather forecast. Not sure if we'll want to bring ponchos for the water rides or use the rides as a relief from heat.

Money question for everyone:  This is a bit off topic because it has to do with our 4 days in the parks before the cruise. We have a piggy bank that we need to break open for our spending money. What is the best way to bring that money for use in the parks for the kids? I really want to load a couple of cards for the boys to use as their fun money, so I don't have to say no to every piece of junk or candy they beg for along the way. That way they can budget their own money with the understanding that when it's gone, it's gone! Any other suggestions or ideas?

Your reservation number that you use when you log into your reservation. Mine is an 8 digit number starting with 23. Sorry for the confusion, it's called "Disney conf number" on my Dreams Unlimited account, but "reservation number" on the Disney cruise site.

I had tried that # and my zipcode and it didn't work. Now that I clarified that that is the number I tried a few zipcodes for Allentown, PA, because that is where AAA is. When I got to 18103 it came up as being set to be delivered to them on Monday, so I probably won't see it till Tuesday or later.

Elasta-Girl: Disney Dollars are nice because they look like actual money. I think they selll them at DTD and a couple place around property.

Doc dance for us last night (Friday):dance3: :cool1:
 DH thinks I am insane because we were running errands today and I mentioned that I wanted to start packing this week. He just looked at me and went :confused3. Obviously I am the planner. He said it is not like it is next weekend or anything. :rolleyes2 :furious: HE has NO idea. His final answer was well as long as you don't pack anything I need now, go to it.

Let's get to it!

P.S. I am still not sure if this situation between Tart Annihilator & BigRed, I would not want to have to come back early because someone was pushed overboard.:rotfl: How are the jails in the Bahamas?

If you like roller coasters, you owe it to yourself to go to Cedar Point sometime. When I started working there (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) they had just a few. The Blue Streak, Corkscrew, and Gemini (which had just been finished). Now there are so many I can't keep them straight!

Went there for our first time in August and we all went on the Millenium Force for our 2nd ride. OMG...scary as heck. Can't believe I put my 6 year old on that ride...what was I thinking?? The rides at DW are going to seem like cake walks now compared to that hair raising experience.

Wow. My 11 yo rode The Raven at Holidayworld twice and now refuses to get on any coaster. On our annual pilgrimage there this year, my 8 yo almost rode it :). Maybe next year.

We're not sure where these children came from. DW and I are coaster fanatics...there's no way these are our kids!

Pete & I are the den leaders for Tigers this year (Grant is a Tiger. Mitch is a Bear). Just had our first den meeting last night and I have 12 little Tigers...OMG...wish me luck and patience. Thanks goodness I have Pete to help, he's the cool one who doesn't get frazzled. I will be the planner, he can herd the cats...I mean boys.

Congrats on being den leaders! That is a big commitment (yeah, I know, 1 hour a month...riiiight) but you're doing a great thing for your kids and others. Twelve is a pretty big den! I started with 14, but had a lot of help. I learned a lesson: use the other parents mercilessly! "Oh hi, glad you're here, hey there's something you can do for me..."

I didn't reply sooner to your post, btw, because yesterday was Scout Day in a major way. I'm still recuperating. :surfweb: Avon has its Heritage Festival the last weekend in September, which also happens to be the start of popcorn sales. So, Friday night we picked up $12,000 worth of popcorn at the warehouse. Saturday morning I took my older DS to help out at a pancake breakfast one of the local charities does. Then I took younger son to pick up a friend's trailer -- the Pack is always in the parade, so the Pack decorated it and my poor truck. We had forty kids in my pickup, in the trailer, bouncing all around and throwing candy to people! Then DW was off to set up a table sale for popcorn, while I was off to the Festival where the Troop was helping run the inflatable games. Later that day I had to switch hats again and help the Pack clean up during and after the Festival.

The entire family staggered home about 10 last night....vowing once again that next year we'll figure out a better way to do this....

Let's see if I can get some image links to work so I can show off my scouts..

Great pictures! I'll post some from the parade after I remember what I did with the camera!

When the kids are older we may check it out. I like coasters when they are new. They get too jerky as they get older. I hate wooden coasters.

I will pack on Saturday 10/18. I never pack early.

Three weeks to go!! :yay:

DS is an Eagle Scout, having started in Tigers many years ago. DH & I are still on his troops committee. DH & I were also Girl Scout leaders when out DD was in. This is something for the kids to look forward to working toward. It's worth it to stick it out with them.

We are not huge foodies but DH and I have been watching Alton Brown's mini-series on Food Network called Feasting on Waves (they are island hopping in the Bahamas looking for local food). It has led me to wonder if there are any local food places near the port that others have tried.

Nothing too far away as we booked an excursion and nothing too shady. (I know it is Nassau shady is suppose to be part of the charm.) From what I see most restraunts are the typical tourist places Hard Rock, Senior Frog, etc.
