October 17th thru 23rd busy?

Thinking about a trip during our school's fall break, 10/17-23 and was checking the resort availability boards (love those boards, btw) and noticed that week seems to be already full for some resorts. Not just BCV and BWV, but also BLT and AKV.

I guess fall break is more popular that I thought. I would have expected the week before, Columbus Day, or the week after, Halloween to be busier.

I think Fall Break for us is typically around the 3rd week of Oct. For you Oct vets, do you recall the 3rd week of Oct being busier that other weeks?

I had no problem getting our studio at KV a few weeks ago for 3 nights.

October is a popular time for DVCers. The parks have gotten busier in the past ten years during that time - Food and Wine brings in a lot of people to Epcot and the Halloween party is running. October combines low points for DVC with some of the best weather and some of DVCers favorite events.

I just booked this am, our first DVC stay, sadly not at our home resort. We are going 10/17-10/21, we could only get OKW or SS unless we wanted to move. I can't complain, though, we are only using 36 points! If we stayed at VWL it would have been 52. Since we only have 153 points annually, it is so worth it. The crowd calendar looks great for that week, 4's and 5's, can't get much lower than that.

We have been going in October for many years. It is not a bad time to go, we love the weather, and usually do pretty good with the wait times for rides. We have noticed however that it has gotten busier over the last few years.

If you dont mind me asking - where are you from. I have never heard of a fall break (or at least we have never had them in NY). We usually get a day for Columbus day - but never a week in the fall. Even at Thanksgiving the schools usually have W,TH,F off, but not the whole week.

That is the week of fall break for MN. All schools have off the 21st and 22nd and my son even has 20th off. This is our second year of going over fall break. I booked a 1br at BWV right at 7monthes.

We live in Panama City Florida and our schools get out the week before Mem. Day for the summer and then start up the second week of August. So usually mid Oct there is a 5 day breakl. Plus 4 days a Turkey week. A lot of the South schools are that way.

That board is only good for the day the data is entered. It could change the next day. So unless you call MS and ask, you won't really know. And it's not really good to show what IS available, only what might not be available.

Indiana has fall break, too - usually at least Thursday and Friday off the 3rd week of October. Many people pull their kids out all week, though, and take a full week.

We usually go about that week each year for the Food & Wine festival. While it is not summer or holiday busy, it is no longer a quiet time, like it used to be. It is crowded, but the crowds are manageable. We go to the parks early, take a mid day break and go back for a ncie liesurely dinner and evening.
The weather is variable. 2 years ago it was really hot and humid, last year it was cloudy and really cool a few days. I pack layers. One year we hit up with a hurricane, but that is the risk you take in October.
This year we are headed to Vero Beach and I am wondering what we will experience.

I went that week last October, I didn't think it was busy at all. Had a number of choices of studios when I called in July to make my reservations.

Only problem was I waited to make ADR's(seeing if someone wanted to tag along) and in that time is when Disney extended free dining! Geez talk about a drop off in availability of ADR's. Concerige at VWL got me into Artist's Point.
