October 17, 2009 Western

Hey, where's our question of the day? Or...was that the question of the day?

Don't think there was one for today or now it is tomorrow for some of you. See if Sue comes up with something for tomorrow (or today for those further east)

I am just enjoying some well wished for rain tonight. Rain in the desert is lovely!!

BTW... I will be able to book Palo in 17 days. That means I need to pay off my balance soon, then find airfare etc..

Hey All,

I know this was posted somewhere on the thread, but I couldn't find it. Has anyone done the Cozumel Beach Break before? DW and I were talking about what we wanted to do in Cozumel and I thought I had heard good things about this. Is this the excursion that has a private section of beach reserved for DCL?

Thanks!
Pete

Penny -- I'll definitely keep an eye out for single, non-gay, Scottish eligible men.. for you :).. What about Norwegian ones.. are you open to them too??

Who ARE you cruising with? Are you looking for Palo Ressie for brunch? for how many ppl?

Okay -- question of the day..

What's the latest movie you watched? Disney / non-Disney is not important.. just wanted to get some movie talk going.. If it's been too long -- what movie are you looking forward to??

The latest movie I watched was Body of Lies with Caprio.. loved that.. needed some 'solvable intrigue' in my life when I was watching it.. ha ha..

I am looking forward to the Time Traveller's Wife and Harry Potter..! Oh and Disney's Princess and the Frog.. and I hear The Proposal is good...

I suppose anyone would qualify... I just really love the Scottish accent and I have a celtic spirit. ;)

I am brining one of my best friends with me on this cruise. Her name is Tiffany and we work together, but no longer at the same site. I am hoping to score a palo brunch this time, no prefrence on party size, if someone who gets one wants to add us. I just hear it is yummy. I am sure I can get a dinner ressie.. I usually have no trouble with that. ;)

I am ready to go this instant and put all of my stress somewhere else for a week! i can't wait until we are under the 100 day mar... it will go quickly then!!

Latest Movie (see in the theater) was UP! with DD7 (yes I had to choke back the tears). Movie that I saw at home. Seven Pounds.. I think I saw that one coming a mile away, but was was interesting.

Wow... Did not know that they have made a movie out of the Time Traveller's Wife? I loved that book, I might have to see that one.

.

We went to see Up in 3-D Monday night as part of a belated Father's Day celebration. We thought the movie was excellent on many levels. Dh and I both thought the whole "squirrel!" thing was a riot. I hope UP is still playing when we sail, I want to see it again.

At home, I watched "Lost in Austen". Eh. So-so at best. Something to watch while I sorted and put away the clean laundry.

We watched the previews for Ice Age 3 and it looks like a stinker. Not looking forward to that one.

We also saw Up in 3-D, and I cried like crazy too. My favorite though was the short movie at the beginning with the stork and the little dark raincloud.....so cute. Well off to take my son and his friend for swimming lessons. Thank goodness tonight is the last night

HI, Pete. It wasn't me who posted about the beach break, but your post motivated me to search the main site. I too remember reading about a place where you pay a fee, 49.00 or so, to go to a beach where lunch, drinks, chairs, umbrellas and hammocks, and non-motorized water toys of various kinds were included.

What I read about the Cozumel Beach break on the Disboard and a couple other cruise web sites confused me. Some claimed that the Cozumel Beach Break was a filthy, crowded place with lousy food. Others, like you said, raved about it. How odd that the reviews run either hot or cold. I got to thinking maybe there is more than one "beach break" location? :confused3
I found this link. Maybe it will be interesting or useful reading.

Penny's post got me thinking. When booking Palo's online, will they only let you book for the total amount of adults on your reservation or linked reservations or can you book for friends that you are are not linked with?

Those of you traveling CAT 1, 2, 3 or REAS get to book on the 4th!!!

Hey Yazee,

I saw those same confusing reviews about the beach. Some loved it and some absolutely hated it. Thanks for the link to the other beaches. After reviewing, we may actually go with Chankanaab. We can arrange tickets directly through Chankanaab which are significantly cheaper then DCL. Plus it is a short cab ride away. We need maximum flexibility with the kids. Not sure about doing the dolphin piece or not, anyone done the swim with the dolphins?

On a different topic, I wonder what tastings will be available on the cruise? The last one we went on (Eastern '07), I did the tequila and margarita tasting which was excellent!

Looking forward to starting to get things locked in.

Have a great night!

We never have eaten at Palo's before, but we may actually get a chance on this cruise! Just torn on what dinner night to skip. My wife is thinking about skipping the night at Parrot Cay. My thought was to still go since we had early seating and get the kids fed - maybe eat a little ourselves - then hit Palo's later that night :0)

Pete - What I have been reading from previous westerns, they had Wine, Beer, Tequilatastings. I also think they had Martini and conaq(sp) as well.

Morning Laura,

Thanks for the info. Those all sound great especially the martini tasting!

Regards,
Pete

Hi :) I did this last time we cruised. When you book online, you only get to book for the amount of adults on your reservation or linked ressies. YOu cannot book for friends NOT linked.

Can't wait to book!!!!!! I got it all planned out and I'm hoping it will work out the way I planned (I set it out using the Passporter Chart for my first Eastern Cruise and will do it again this time)..

For those of you planning, The dinner rotations ARE going to be something like APLLAPL -- basically you repeat your third night on your fourth night (checked around recent cruise reports to confirm as well as spoke to Disney Reservations).. The only thing is not knowing which rotation you'll be on.. but oh well .. we're also hoping that Character Breakfast doesn't clash with Palo Brunch..but we have early seating so we'll probably have the earlier breakfast too.. we'll see. :)

Oh well, hope it all works out, right? :) Best of luck to the rest of you who'll be booking tonight!

Okay, Question of the Day time -- What are your 4th of July plans???

4th of July plans are to stay cool. It is going to be over 100 with Thunderstorms. We will probably just hang around the house and maybe hit the pool in the morning. If the storm passes over early, then me might go find a free spot to go watch one of the fireworks display's around town.

Wish we lived in a bit cooler climate so we can do something like a picnic or hanging out outside on the 4th. But then again, we can take a hike or have a picnic on Thanksgiving (Nov) or Christmas (Dec).

We've done our online ressies for Palo and Shore Excursions!!! :) (We got 105 days since we were on the Romantic Package)..

For those of you who will be booking soon and haven't done this before.. I thought we could share some tips.. I gathered some info from researching before and the Passporter as well as the DISBoards so here goes..:

Reservations Open at 12.01am EDT (just past midnight Eastern) so you just make sure you've either Retrieved your reservation already slightly before that and click refresh and the page with the unclickable buttons, magically become clickable YAY!

The "HOTTEST TICKET" is the Palo Brunch so I'd book that first.

Then comes Palo Dinners for those of you interested.

Then your shore excursions..

Make sure you click 'SUBMIT' for every 'summary page' you get after booking EACH excursion/dining reservation - don't wait until booking ALL of them because you might lose your spot if others are clicking at the same time or faster!

Any one else with tips to share??

Have FUN! And Happy 4th of July!! :)

The "HOTTEST TICKET" is the Palo Brunch so I'd book that first.

Why is that? I have not had brunch there yet, and I'm hoping to this time. Is it better than the dinner served there? Can you tell me what really makes this the hottest ticket??

Thanks!
Penny

Hi Penny!!

What I mean by the Hottest ticket is that these ressies are the hardest to come by. ALL this applies only if you WANT to do Brunch at Palo. Of course, if you don't care for it, then this wouldn't at all be important to your Cruise experience .. (but I do like the Palo experience at Brunch myself)..

Personally, I think Palo Brunch is 'hotter' than dinner because:

1. Dinner is served every night at Palo. Brunch only on AT SEA days (3 in our case - including the Key West day I think.. unless itinerary changes..).
2. Brunch is spectacular (from experience) and you can probably search for pics and trip reports of these 'all-you-can-eat' at Palo experiences. Very cool.
3. My research (DIS and the Passporter Board threads) tells me that by the time 75 days come around, people have problems booking the Brunch online..even 90 days bookings can be tough if many people are seeking Brunch for that cruise... so BOOK IT FIRST if you get to do it online and there's one available :) is all I meant :).

What I've also learnt is that DCL sets aside a number of ressies online and then you can also book some on the ship when you board. So, if you miss the online ressie you can still try your chances at getting one when you board the ship... (anyone with experience on this do let us know..). Remember also that people change things around depending on their interests so online availability could change - so keep checking if you're looking :).

You can also have TEA at Palo but from reading about HIgh TEA at Palo, it doesn't seem to be as spectacular as Brunch -- and the prices are different too ($5 for High Tea and $15 for Brunch and Dinner is $15 too).

This is from my personal experience.. anyone else has differing opinions to offer?

Sue - I am so jealous that you got to book already. I have to wait until the 19th to book. But then again I have not paied my balance in full yet. Which I will do next week.

What is the earliest time that the Palo bunches start?

What did you book for excursions?

Laura

The Palo Brunches start at 10am -- I'm not sure when we'll be at Mickey's Breakfast jam so we booked at 11am just to be sure :)..

We looked at Dolphinaris (cozumel) and Pirates..(g.c.)

If you'd like me to look at excursions availabilities and times for excursions other than these - can't go in to modify without giving it up I think..- let me know.. would be glad to helP :)..
