October 17, 2009 Western

The chocolate key lime pie sounded weird to me, but now that I see it I may have to try it... ;) I have a question regarding the FEs. Are they per party or per stateroom, or per FE? I am traveling as three rooms of two adults each. I'm sure one of my traveling companions would love to chip in to do the FE gifts with me, but the rest of my party won't be interested. In that case would we just include the two of us on the FE list, and get one FE with just our names on it? Or would we actually be gifting on behalf of our party and should include all six of us? I just don't want to do too little or too much. I'm sure I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be - please clarify for me before I confuse myself further! :confused3

MMMMM! Chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stick. It is the reason we are booked for this cruise and not the november double dip, the double dip doesn't go to key west and my Dad who is traveling with us could go without getting the chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stick. My husband, on he other hand, does not like it, it gives him a major headache...too sweet for him.

When we went last time, we just got off the boat and walked to the trolley stop, it is kinda around the corner a little bit. On the trolly, if you don't book thru disney cruise line, you can get on and off at different stops. Last time we did Blonde Giraffe, and pirate museum, got back on the trolley and did butterfly museum and southern most point. My whole family really enjoyed the trolley, learned a lot about key west, and we got to pick and choose what we saw. We will be hopping a trolley when we go in October.

May we join you..? We just book and put down our deposit on the Oct 17 WC Cruise. We should have been on the boat this week :sad2:, but DH got sick last Sunday  and then went into the hospital with pneumonia. :scared1:

So we are now seeing how trip cancellation insurance will work, but decided to rebook while we are waiting since we have a very sad 7 yo DD who was so looking forward of sailing with Mickey. Unfortunately by booking in October we are no going to have to miss some school, but we checked with her 2nd grade teacher and she said it was going to be okay. Plus seemed like the deals were much better in Oct then what we had in May. So we are more than ready to sail with you all..

Currently booked CAT 12 GTY and will see how things fall as things get closer to the cruise. There are 3 of us.. DH, Myself (Laura) and DD7. Currently 2nd Dining, wait listed for Main Dining.

Any names for this group yet? the previous cruise DCL team called themselves Key Lime Pie-rates and now I have to reprint the door magnetes that have dates and names on them.

Hi Laura!!! Welcome to our DIS Crew!! Thats too bad about your husnband falling ill, but now we have you!!! Our son is 7 too! We have not came up with a name yet....but maybe we should start thinking of one!! Any ideas?

Strega How does the trolley work? Can we all just hop on it? What about strollers, will I be able to cart a stroller on there? What is the cost? Wowza.....question overload, sorry!:confused3 Its nice to have someone that has some experience in Key West!!!

Camplets I would think if its just you and someone in another cabin participating that you could just make one FE each....unless you will be making FE gifts from your family...then maybe put their names on it too????? Some people when they give out gifts make something for the entire cabin, or something for the adults and a seperate gift for the kids. In like to do a personlized gift per cabin and a little bag of candy or tattoos for the kids!

Shancan Thank you for the picture:eek:
I wonder if I could recreate that with my keylime jello and left over easter chocolate....:rotfl::rotfl:

Yum... The keylime pie talk is making me hungry.

That is one of the reasons I want to make sure we did the WC, because we wanted to stop in Key West. Our plans for Key West is to take the trolly (not the tour) and get off at the Southern most point for a picture and call home and then walk up to the butterfly concervancy and see what else there is to do. DH jokes that I am going to stop at each place that I see Key Lime pie for sale. Was also thinking about buying some wine for the ship while we are there.

As for other excursions, we wanted to do Boatswian in Grand Cayman. Has anyone else done that before?

kimberleeJohnston - I saw someone had a back to neverland graphic that was pretty neat. I wasn't sure if that was this DIS groups name or not. I am definately not great with naming things and could not work photoshop well enough to create something. I generally have someone on DISigns make something.

Any good ideas out there

Laura, welcome to this cruise. I feel your pain. This is actually our postponed trip also. We were supposed to be on the Feb 21 WC, but five weeks before we were supposed to leave on our big family vacation (with my mom, dad, sister, DH, and DS9), my sister had a terrible bicycle accident and she was still in the hospital when I watched our ship leave via port cams. Luckily she is recovering, and she should hopefully be back to normal by the time we leave on this cruise...she was really lucky, we weren't so sure she was going to make it. Anyhow, travel insurance worked well and pretty quickly for us, I had booked the last trip thru costco and gotten costco insurance thru Berkely group. After all the paperwork was filled out and signed by a DR, the money came back within two weeks. I had booked the Dolphin excursion on our own, so I lost I think 10% of that, and we had booked a WDW resort room for the night after that we lost 50% on. Since I booked with Costco they only covered the cruise part. Delta Airlines was amazing, I was trying to reschedule our airline tickets and just pay the change fee, but because I had purchased them the first day I could, we had to use them within a year of purchase date and that would have been in April. I knew we would not be able to reschedule in that time, and I thought we were going to loose out all together. About 2 min. after I had hung the phone up with the Delta representative, she called back and said that our itinerary at one point had change by more than 30 min on one of the stops, and that qualified us for a full refund. It was such an emotional time all I could do was cry. Sorry for the rambling, your story just brought it all back to me, probably way more info than you guys needed on the website.

On the bright side, my cruise would have been over by now, and I have another one to still look forward to! And....the water at Castaway Cay is supposed to be warmer that what it is in Feb!

Kimberlee I can't figure out how to just quote a partial post, but about the trolley. I don't remeber what the price was, but I was going to look on line and see if I can find it, I remeber thinking it was a little pricey, but definately worth it. When you get off the ship you follow the masses past the big red house, down a street with a lot of shops. There may have been a sign saying to train tours. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GETTING ON THE TRAIN TOUR...THEY DO NOT LET YOU OFF. But once you get to the train tour, which is right on the main road, you go one block back and it is behind the train tour place, kinda by the shipwreck historeum. It was really easy to get on and off they have a bunch that keep running, and when you are ready to get back on at the different stops one will usually be there within 5 minutes. I didn't have a stroller so I can't tell you much about that, but it looked like it wouldn't be to difficult. You can also purchase tickets to the different places you want to see at the trolley counter. Hope that helps, I will try to find some pics and post them.

I remember you writing about your sister's accident and the rescheduling of the family cruise but I never realized how much you went through in the canceling and rescheduling. You will definitely be rewarded with warmer water!

Hi, Laura,

Welcome! I'm sorry to hear how very sick your husband was. That must have been a scary time. A man we know also wound up in the hospital after an illness became complicated. Three weeks! He's home now, getting his strength back, and has returned to work, but it's frustrating him to not be as strong as he thinks he should be.

I will add your group to list on post one of our thread.

Good Morning,

Happened to call up DCL yesterday with a question on our reservation, and the CM reviewed the itinerary and said "Costa Maya" instead of Cancun. Did I miss something but weren't we supposed to be going to Cancun? She was very adamant about it as well. All our paperwork says Cancun, but didn't know if they changed something on their end. Anybody else hear anything like this?

Going to call back later today to double check.

Thanks!
Pete

Pete - that is odd. I'm pretty sure they're not stopping in Cozumel right now due to the swine flu, but I would think by Oct they'd be back there again. I'm going to see if it shows anything online.

Just checked the reservation online & it still shows Day 5 - Wed as Cozumel. I wonder if they send out notice when it changes?

Agreed; seems a little early to be mucking around with the ports. Oh well, either port will be fine my me. As long as they have nice beaches and cold margaritas!

Oh no! I hope not! I really love Cozumel!!! :lovestruc

By the way, I don't think I've been back to chat since my original post when we booked back in November. So sorry! I should have more computer time with the kids out of school this Summer and I'm planning to become a more active poster. ;) I can't believe we are now under the 5-month mark!

This is true... although I would truly miss drinking the fabulous yard margaritas at Carlos'n Charlie's & Senor Frogs in Cozumel! We met members of our cruise group there during our past 2 Westerns and had an absolute blast!!!

Is anyone here up for an afternoon margarita meet? :drinking1

Costa Maya....really? I guess I will have to start researching that port as well. Thanks for the heads up....
