Snore Monster V.2005 is offline tonight...apparently it needs maintenance. I'm happy - I get to sleep almost straight through to 6:30...gaaaaaaacccck! Since when is sleeping until 6:30 a good thing?
I wander out to the verandah, leaving the door open on purpose to wake up Jason...I'm so nice to my man! It's cloudy but warm and humid...looks like we are catching up with Wilma again, or maybe she is catching up with us again...whatever the case we know she's out there and she's not happy. We've been following her progress all week and from a purely selfish perspective her timing has been perfect - she did not disrupt the cruise in any way, the weather has been pretty good all things considered, and she's delaying her Florida arrival until late Sunday or early Monday. While we wouldn't mind staying with Mickey on his boat indefinitely there is that whole "payment expected promptly" thing. If we ain't working we ain't paying. And I do not want to see the type of collection agents a mouse can send after us for late payment.
Time for a surprise quiz!
At 7AM Brenda and Jason have breakfast at:
A) Topsiders with many a tousled-head and bleary eye;
B) Goofy's Galley with some very wet children;
C) Cove Cafe where
DCL awards us a plaque for the most money spent by a couple on coffee drinks in a 6-day timespan; or
D) The boiler room with a special menu that includes scrambled eggs a la' sea monster, toasted tenticles, and peanut-butter and jellyfish sandwiches.
Breakfast complete - where would you eat? - we wander the ship taking pictures. A bit of advice...many people don't seem to make it above deck until at least 8AM so if you're looking to enjoy some quiet time on decks 9 or 10 during the day you might want to consider this option. We decide to head for Deck 10 to watch the Magic's approach to
Castaway Cay - there are some hardy souls who are already here, having been bitten with the same inspirational bug. I last for about ten minutes - I'm wearing a jacket but with all this wind I'm still cold. I need to thaw out again...how about a quick stop at the rainforest??
It is one of the great mysteries of our marriage...how I manage to hold the cold so well while Jason manages to retain so much heat. I try to explain that my grandmother on my mother's side was an iguana but Jason isn't buying it.
We're off the ship before 9AM - oh dear, collective groan...it's raining. Many people hover around the towel guy and take towels but can't seem to decide if they actually want to go anywhere. The crowds are light - the rain seems to be keeping some of them inside - but we look at this as our chance to explore the island before things get hoppin'. Last year we never made it past Cookies BBQ because I felt so cruddy - this year is not last year! Hooray!
We wander into the post office and buy some stamps for the scrapbook...we head over to Marge's Barges and ask if they are going to cancel the parasailing for the day...it is pretty windy and those could be thunderstorms brewing out there. I'm not too sure that I want to come home with a Caribbean perm caused by a mid-air lightning strike. They tell us to check back 30 minutes before our scheduled time. We look at all the stuff for sale and decide not to buy anything...we keep walking until we end up at the Heads up Bar. This is a great location...away from the crowds at the family beach, peaceful, there are hammocks here! If you can't make it over to the grown-up beach try this spot instead...I'm sure it gets busy but I have a feeling that many people don't venture further down to the less populated areas of the beach.
Our parasailing excursion is set for 11:30 so we decide we better get back to the ship and get our stuff - after that we won't be back on board until after 4:30 this afternoon because we have a cabana massage at 3PM.
On the way back to the Magic my happiness is complete - it's the Goofster! And he's got a photographer with him. We must have a picture! I give my secret Disney love a big hug and ask where he's been all week...Jason looks annoyed..."you're not even a dog person," he says.
"Goofy's different, " I reply, "he's cool."
"Yeah, I know that...so can I have my picture taken with him, too, or are you going to monopolize him all day?"
Even big kids squabble sometimes.
It's stopped raining! People are streaming off the ship (I now know how the salmon feel swimming upstream) and we get some strange looks from almost everyone who must be wondering why we are re-boarding at 10AM. But we soon make it to the room, get our suits on, apply the sunscreen (don't want to get any cloudburns), gather up everything we need, and get back downstairs.
At Marge's we learn that the 11AM parasailing group is still waiting to go - all the groups ahead of them were canceled because of the weather. We wait...and then I pace...and then we wait some more...but then! The tour operators show up (we did this last year so we recognize them!) and it looks like we're going to get to go out. Woohoo!!
There are seven of us on our tour - the water is much choppier than last year and there is a big wind as we like to call it out here in the Midwest. The boat ride kicks up a lot of sea spray and we're soaking wet before we've even made it to open water. Who cares? This is fun! Jason and I end up being the last of our group to go up - because the wind is so strong they will not let us parasail separately. Secretly I am pleased by this decision. It was one thing to parasail last year by myself when the winds and seas were calm but I'm a big enough baby to want Jason with me on a morning like this. I have to leave my glasses behind and go up blind because the wind is so strong - poor seeing eye-dog husband has to take all the pictures and help me in and out of my harness and make sure I don't fall off the boat.
It was a blast! The guy in charge of the excursion told us that they only gave us about 300 feet of rope this time because they were worried they wouldn't be able to get us back down if we went any higher. It's so peaceful up here above the water and we dance around in the wind like a candy wrapper caught in an up-draft (thanks to Homer Simpson for that description). I point randomly and tell Jay I think I can see our house.
He rolls his eyes (well, I think he does...he's behind me and I can't really see him, but he's got that tone in his voice that usually goes along with eye-rolling.) "you can't even see your hand in front of your face."
"You're no fun - dork."
"You're even less fun - freak."
"I plan all the vacations and all the excursions - how can I not be fun?"
"Lucky guess."
And then we share a mid-air kiss...we're being reeled back in and the others on the boat are applauding. We grin at each other...well, I think I'm grinning at Jay - my glasses are still missing in action - and then we're heading back to the pier. We learn that the rest of the parasailing excursions will be canceled for the rest of the day due to wind conditions...bummer for everyone else but we sure got lucky!
Glasses clean and back on my nose, it's time for some Konk Koolers and lunch. We get the booze at the family bar and then catch the tram over to Serentiy Bay.
TBC...thanks for staying with me so long. The end draws near...really!
