October 15, 2005 anyone?

Ok guys...I read a post on the other DISboard and now I'm confused!! What will having dinner at Palo cost me? $10.00/person or $10.00 for the two of us?

I thought the $10.00 was the tip. Am I expected to pay more for a tip that night? Geeez, the littlest things confuse me lately. I must be getting OLD!!! :confused3

Thanks again....
Nancy :paw:

Hi Nancy,

Palo is $10.00 per person.
From Eastern Navigator – June 26th 2004
“…A dining option fee of $10.00 per person applies for both dinner and Champagne Brunch reservations.”

At the end of dinner/brunch (gosh...it's hard for me to just call this a meal)...ok...at the end of this fabulous event - you may be inclined to tip more than the required amount. The servers and cooks at Palo appear to be 'the best of the best'...quality of the food and service offered is out of this world.

SUGGESTION – ask for the hazelnut chocolate soufflé when you order your appetizers. This desert is OUTSTANDING!!!!

Thanks Kevin...I got it now. Palo dinner will cost us $20.00 and a tip. Do we tip the waitstaff that night or at the end of the cruise with everyone else?

I have to read up on the tipping thing. Not sure if I want to take care of the tipping myself, or let the cruiseline do it for me the night before our last night.
I have my trusty Passporter handy. It will be a little night time reading for me tonight.

Good night everyone...
Nancy :wave2:

Real hazelnuts? Oooh, noooo....I'm extremely allergic to them. I'd be dead in 20 minutes if I had one. If it's hazelnut flavoring, I'm OK!! Hard to believe Disney would use fake hazelnuts. :teeth:

Hey Nanc...saw your post about being allergic to nuts. Wish I could offer some suggestions...sorry - I can't. I did see a post that numerous DISr's discuss food allergies - you might want to review the following 'thread' - titled = Nut allergies and desserts...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=887186

Appears the 'main theme' on this thread is to alert DCL prior to sailing, as well as, what appears to be some great discussion/suggestions/options. Hope this helps.

You tip them that night.
I have to read up on the tipping thing.
There are frequent threads on the Cruise Board about tipping at Palo. Here is a current one: Tipping at Palo
There are no clear-cut guidelines. Some believe that part of the $10 fee is used as a gratuity for the server, but others aren't so sure. Regardless, most folks seem to agree that some amount of tip beyond the fee is justified given the superior service.
Not sure if I want to take care of the tipping myself, or let the cruiseline do it for me the night before our last night. I have my trusty Passporter handy.
The Passporter does a good job of discussing the guidelines for tipping the server, assistant server, head server, and stateroom attendant. (I love the Passporter! :earsboy: ) I'm a little bit confused with regard to your comment about letting the cruiseline do it for you. As far as I know, nothing is automatic about the tipping (other than the 15% tagged on to all alchohol orders). You have to stuff the envelopes (either with cash or with receipts from Guest Services, if you charge your tips) and present them to the individual CMs yourself. Maybe I'm just misinterpreting your sentence? With me that's always a possibility... :teeth:

Only 1353 hours until I start my vacation! 60 days until embarkation! :earsboy:

Ok!! I am booked on Southwest for $59 one way! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I knew if I was patient it would happen!!

$410 for all 3 of us round trip!!!!! :cheer2:  :cheer2:

Just had to share my joy with you guys and it is finally raining!!!!!!! We need it so bad! :goodvibes

Bye
Michelle

:dog2: :dog2: :dog2: :dog2: :dog2:

I am doing the low fare SW dance too!! I got $49 o/w wooo hooo

now I gotta get a hotel at the airport (Park and fly) because the flight down leave Buffalo at 7AM.. we could get up really early and drive... but there's always the cost of parking anyway...

or we could always stay in a Van down by the river.
:earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

Later all,
Paul

ok... I know it... I'm odd..

Ya know I was reading the talk about the Palo tipping.... When we sailed on the Wonder we were told both times that the $10 was the tip for our servers since they are not part of the normal crew that you tip. So we never left anything else after our dinner. We love Palo and I do hope that the money goes directly to the server. That is what we were told. :confused3

We are flying down on the 2:00 flight on Friday. My Best friends DS is not off school that day like my DD is and so she atleast wanted him to go in the morning. Then I booked the evening flight on Sat so we could take our time and maybe go to Downtown Disney for the day.

This is all so exciting! :cool1:

I have a little announcement to share with all of you... We are expecting our second child in February, so we will have a little "1/2" added to our room. Just make sure you get in line in front of me at Palo brunch. Otherwise there won't be anything left!!!

Trying to play catch up today...there is no way!!!! I'm so far behind.

First off, congratulations PandP on your new addition. I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy. Now we know where to find you...at the buffet! :teeth:
Lucky you!

Good job to those who got great airfare. I'm glad it worked out. Those prices sound fantastic. More money to spend on the ship!!!! :drinking1

Now my story, some ding-dong, (that would be me) signed up for a marathon 148 hours (thanks to you math people, I'm counting hours now, too) before embarkation. So, when I see countdowns, I get an ill feeling. :p :rolleyes1 I want to be excited, but I've been having a hard time lately. If I'm MIA that's why...but, I'll be at the meet Sunday, ready to party!!!! :teeth:

Hope everyone is have a good week!

Sara

Ok...I hope I don't miss anything...

Congrats to Paige and family!!! Our very best to all of you!!

$100.00 to fly to and from Orlando? WOW!!! Wish I would have waited, but I don't ever recall Midwest Airlines having any deals like that one!!

I will definitely check out the "allergies" thread. DCL already knows about my Hazelnut allergy. Since I gave up sweets last December, I don't think I need to worry too much about the hazelnuts. I don't think they will be tossing a handful into my chicken. :)

My comment about the tipping directly through DCL came from me thinking that all I had to do is go to Guest Services on Thursday night, tell them what I want to tip, and they would take care of all that. I don't know where I got that from....I must have made it up!! ;)

I think I addressed everything I wanted to. Sure wish I knew how you post part of the thread in those nice little yellow boxes. That way I wouldn't miss out on my responses.

Later Friends,
Nancy

Congratulations! But you better keep it quiet :ssst: , or DCL might decide to bill you for another 1/2 person! :rotfl:
Sure wish I knew how you post part of the thread in those nice little yellow boxes.
It's really pretty simple:
  1. Just highlight the sentence(s) you want to quote (put in the yellow box).
  2. Go to your browser's "Edit" pull-down menu and select "Copy". (Or, if you like keyboard shortcuts, you can just type CTRL-C.)
  3. While composing your reply, click on the little "quote" icon. (It should be the symbol that looks like the "bubble" that has the words a character is saying in a comic strip. It should be the far right icon in the icon set just above the reply box, and just below the font/size/color drop-down selectors.) This will open a dialog box where you can paste in the text you selected earlier. The easiest way to do this is to just press CTRL-V. (I'm assuming PC here...I guess the hot keys are different if you are using a Mac.)
Have fun quoting! :earsboy:

Hey Paul -

Are you leaving Saturday out of Buffalo? We are leaving Thrusday am - heading to Jacksonville - then driving to Orlando on Friday. If you need any info on hotels in the Airport area, just let me know, we live 10 minutes from the airport!

Take Care!
:earsgirl: :earsboy: :dog2: :paw:

Gia,
we were looking at maybe staying at the Ramada Limited... they seem to have the cheapest park and fly program... $69 isn't too bad... I figure it would cost us $25 and the sunpark/parking lot thing....

I think I remember staying at the Best Western (Northpoint Inn) last year... wasn't too bad... just looking for the best/cheapest deal without staying in a seedy spot...

Thanks,
Paul

We have always stayed at the Radisson, but this year thought we would try something close to a beach. :sunny: We were hoping to get into town early, but since my friends DS can't miss school all day on Friday we won't get into Orlando till 5:30 pm. So I don't know if it is worth staying by the beach now. We have a suite at Quality Suites for $99 and when I started checking around yesterday everything is pretty high in that area.

I guess we will just keep it booked. Raddison was $120 before taxes... I guess $99 is not too bad and we will be comfy and well rested in the morning.

We will miss the Radisson though! I loved staying there our past 2 trips.

It is just coming up so fast now....I can't wait! :goodvibes :goodvibes

I won't miss getting up at 4:30 am to make a 7:45 am flight, but I will miss getting into town early.

First of all, it's good to be back - was sick with a rather ucky crohns related infection the details of which I will spare you. Finally feeling better.

General welcomes and congrats to everyone that has posted good news and / or has joined the thread!!

So, you're wondering what this is about?? I am an AVP at a local bank...we're a dime a dozen, but the St. Louis chapter of the Muscular Distrophy Association ended up with my name for their executive lock-up fundraiser which will take place on August 31. I should have explained to them that just because I sit in a corner cubicle that does not make me an executive.... :teeth: Long story short...I am shamelessly asking you lovely people to go to my personal MDA webpage and make a credit card donation for whatever amount you feel comfortable giving (the site is secure). You'll be donating to a great cause and you'll have the added bonus of making me look a little less like an idiot than usual. There is no way that I can meet the bail they set for me...I do not have the kind of job that generates business contacts. But I figure that something is better than nothing, and I'm sure they'll let me go in time for the cruise.

I do hope I haven't annoyed, offended, or in any way upset anyone by posting this request here. If you can help in any way I'd really appreciate it and if not that's fine as well. Here's the link with a truly awful picture (the only thing that would have made it worse was a Cubs logo):

http://www.mdalockup.org/bailpage.aspx?j=41837

Thanks everyone for your time - if I can reciprocate in some way please let me know. And, if you all decide that I have stepped out of bounds with this post I'll delete it posthaste.

Thanks again!

Brenda
