Michelle, for years the bottom half of my two front teeth were discolored from an unfortunate encounter with a slate foyer at the age of 3, so I can totally empathize with Josie. In what my dentist could only call a miracle, the discoloration faded over the years and they are now pretty much the same color as the rest of my teeth (or maybe the rest of my teeth just got dirty). I can tell a slight difference, but I doubt anyone else could.
On the baseball front, we are tried and true Astros fans (I even grew up in a town where the minor league team was a farm team for the Astros, so I saw Craig Biggio play when he was young). I have kept quiet this season because (a) we're in the same division as those Cubs and Cards I keep hearing about and (b) I didn't want to jinx our season. Our local paper, the Houston Chronicle, did a story on them early in the season and put a tombstone on the front of the sports page saying they were done for the season. As Lance Berkman said, "How can you not write us off? It hadn't happened since 1914. By the way, that was Craig Biggio's fifth or sixth year in the big leagues." Well, they managed to turn things around, but everyone here was sort of in a quiet holding pattern - we all agreed that we just wouldn't talk about the streak. Now that we're in the playoffs, we're free to discuss their great turnaround because they're going to tank in the playoffs like they always do. We have some sort of nasty curse. We've had great teams, and with our current pitching staff we should be unbelievable, but something always happens to the Disastros in the playoffs.
Oh, here's another funny quote from yesterday's article in the Chronicle reprising their tombstone article...
Reporter: "I have a Hall of Fame vote. Want to rethink that answer?"
(Astros Catcher) Brad Ausmus: "What are you going to do? Keep me out of the Hall of Fame? I think I've done a good job of that all by myself."
