October 15, 2005 anyone?

I have a question about formal night....how many of you guys out there are wearing tuxes. I have been trying to pursuade my hubby and he won't budge...>

My husband has been dieting so he'll comfortably be able to wear his tux again this year. We generally do black tie on the formal night, and then he wears a suit and tie on the semi-formal.

I'm always so surprised when posters rave about Topsiders. We have never had a meal there that impressed us at all. And as for the view, I'd much prefer to eat inside (for any meal) and then go sit on one of the decks to enjoy the view. We keep trying Topsiders every year, wondering if we're missing something that is making so many people love it, but I think this year we won't go back.

My husband will be wearing a tux on formal & semi formal night also.

We ate last time at Parrot Cay & will do so again. Actually, Parrot Cay happens to be my husbands favorite.

We ate at Topsider a couple times. It was ok. Very convienent when you are spending the day at the pool. At one lunch at Topsiders they had pasta being sauteed w/ whatever you wanted them to add to it, be it veggies, meat or both. My Dh Loved it. He liked the omlettes they would make up too. I ate pretty light for breakfast & lunch so I could splurge a little on dinner so I never did try what my husband had. :)

Gary is wearing a sports coat and dress pants...No Tux... :confused3 I am lucky to get him out of his starched and pressed Wranglers!!! "Cowboy"!

I agree you must get to Topsiders early to get a great table that first day!
The shrimp is really good!!

We also remember an Oriental lunch buffet on our 4 day Wonder trip and it was so good!!! I hope they have it on the MAGIC!!!

We always go to Parrot Cay or Topsiders for Breakfast...Love both! Omelets and Mickey Waffles!! Yum..

ALthough I am not too picky!! I eat anything! :goodvibes

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS... I guess it'll depend on the weather. I'm sure our group will love to eat al fresco...

My son will actually wear a tuxedo that used to fit my spouse... My DH will most likely wear a suit for both nights. I will wear a cocktail dress on semi formal night and possibly a long gown or pantsuit for formal nite. DD will wear a long oriental style dress and possibly a pantsuit for semiformal nite.

We're not packed yet but I'm gathering some of our stuff and picking up the shoe holder as suggested by the best tips..

I can't decide... I am bringing a suit... black... and for Pirate night I am bringing the poets shirt I got married in. (Hope I still fit)

Later,
Paul

I tend to agree with you on this, but I'm not generally a big fan of buffet food. I think that's one reason that I like dinner at Palo more than the brunch - not to take anything away from brunch, but I much prefer dinner there.

Different strokes... :teeth:

GO CARDS!!!

Paul, you crack me up! :rotfl:

If you were my Dh & wore one of those suits I think I would throw you overboard. :teeth:

Actually, my Dh had a suit like that when we first got married & then one day...Hmmmm, it just disappeared. :confused3 ;)

Hi All,

I just joined the boards and hope it's not too late to meet you all.

My name is Amy and I will be cruising with my DH Irv and DS Ethan (almost 7yrs old). It is our first cruise and we're SO excited.

I hope to have some new friends by the time we set sail :grouphug:

It took those pictures forever to load on my computer, but now that I see them... Paul, you've gotta go plaid all the way!

Oh me too, me too!!! Paul you are too funny!!!

Jen, My uncle had a plaid suit like the one in Paul's picture. He was almost buried in it!! My mom and I put an end to that idea!! We bought him a nice jacket. Then a few weeks later, my mom tried to unload it on DH. WHAT??? If it wasn't good enough to be buried in, why would someone want to wear it? As a joke, DH took it and gave it to my brother for Christmas. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: It reamains an item we "re-gift" often.

Nancy :wave2:

Hi Amy and Family!!! Welcome to the wackiest thread on this board. :cheer2:

Chuck (DH) and I are also 1st Timers. Glad to know we aren't the only ones anymore.

We are all meeting on Deck 10 above the Cove Cafe on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
See if you can make it!! We'd love to meet you.

Nancy :wave2:

Welcome Amy & family, glad you could join us. :)

Nancy, I love that passing around the family re-gift thing. When I was growing up my mom, her sisters, brother, & my grandparents would do the same thing with this ugly china dog. It even made it's way from Minnesota to Oregon. The dog would disappear for a few years, everyone would forget about it & then "voila" someone would get it on Christmas. It was such a hoot & we would all get a good laugh out of it. Hmmm, :scratchin I wonder were the dog is now? It's been a few years. :)

Nancy,

You guys aren't the only newbies. This is my first cruise, too. DH has cruised before, but WAAAAY before there was a DCL or even a Big Red Boat.

Here's a question for you DCL veterans -- do the rooms have their own thermometers in them (like hotel rooms)? Are the rooms generally warm or cold? I am trying to decide whether to pack DS' shorts PJ sets or his blanket sleepers.

As for the tux question, my DH hasn't decided. Are you kidding? That decision will not be made until about 2:00 a.m. the day we are scheduled to leave and only after he turns on all the lights in the bedroom and wakes me up a few times to ask me what we're doing when and how he's supposed to dress for all of this stuff. Apparently I neglected to inform him that we are supposed to dress nicely for dinner (i.e., no shorts). He is definitely of the "I'm paying a bloody fortune for this vacation and can wear whatever the heck I want to dinner" mindset, whereas I am more of the "attire sets the appropriate mood" mindset. We could be our own thread on the DIS, except that he would likely never set foot on this message board. He is a little horrified that I actually correspond with people on a regular basis about the cruise. I haven't decided yet whether to tell him what the mardi gras beads are for at embarkation or just toss them around his neck and wish him a bon voyage. He really isn't a fuddy duddy. He just doesn't share (or really get) my overwhelming enthusiasm for this trip.

Paul, I think you should wear one of those plaid suits to our meet! :rotfl2: We would be sure to spot you then!!

I kind of wish Gary would wear a tux cause that would make an awesome picture on Formal night. I love my formal dress and DD's is so lovely..Oh well his suit is very nice, but not a tux.

Just can't justify the money......So that extra $100 saved will go toward my massage at the Spa.... :rotfl:

He will probably change back to shorts right after dinner every night! I got him another pair of pants on e-bay today. Haggar Khaki pants for $6.99. Now he is set.

Cardinals are winning 8 to 1!!! Not that anyone cares...I am sure Brenda is listening!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Cardinals lead 8-2, top of the eighth. Looks good for today but the bullpen situation makes me nervous. Half the employees of the bank are at the game today - if we weren't so close to vacation I probably would be there too! :teeth:

I'm pretty sure each stateroom has its own thermostat, Paige. I seem to recall turning the airconditioning off briefly on our last cruise - but it does get warm in those rooms quickly.

God all you guys just crack me up....well as much as wanted hubby to wear a tux....if it's one like that, I'll take the suit anyday....And like Michelle said, I'm sure I can find a way to spend the extra $$ saved.
Welcome Amy and family....not only are we meeting on Sunday at 1:00 we will all be wearing mardi gras beads when we board so you'll be able to recognize us all.

My DD and my best Friends DS are 7 and so they will in the clubs with you DS.

TOMORROW WE ARE IN SINGLE DIGITS!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

HEY, Do any of you know if they still have an Oriental buffet for lunch on the Magic????? I know I mentioned that earlier..Maybe I will put a thread out on the main board... :wizard:

how many of you guys out there are wearing tuxes.
I'll be wearing one on formal night and to Palo...maybe on semi-formal night, too. (I might as well get my money's worth! :teeth: ) I also bought tuxes for both my boys off of eBay...I got 'em for $35 each...Buying their two tuxes was cheaper than a single rental!
