October 15, 2005 anyone?

Welcome to Mia's Mom!! I too am pretty new to these boards but everyone has been really nice. I'm Still trying to get an answer from someone about what this tag thing is all about though? What are the rules, how do we sign up etc..etc.. etc. Glad to hear that so many of you are up for the Radisson pool thing.

Well guys, bad news from my front. We are evacuating to Dallas today in the face of Hurricane Rita. Current projections show it making landfall late Friday night/early Saturday morning about thirty miles south of my house. While we shouldn't have problems with storm surge that far inland, we will still have significant hurricane force winds. After seeing what happened with Katrina, we have no interest in riding out a Category 4 hurricane, especially with a one year old and a baby on the way.

We're fortunate to have enough warning with this one to be able to prepare our house as best we can and pack up our treasures, but it is really hard to go through your house (particularly your child's room) and think about what you most treasure. I know there are things we've missed, but it is all just stuff. I have to keep reminding myself of that. [By the way, my cruise docs are in the pile of stuff to go with us!]

Please keep us in your thoughts.

Paige,
take care of yourself! It sounds bad to say, but I almost wish it would turn up towards N.O. again... at least there wouldn't be much to destroy. :guilty: Fill your docs out while your waiting... maybe take the DCL DVD and watch it. :-D

Later,
Paul

Good luck Paige, we'll be thinking about you and yours. :goodvibes

Kevin... I totally agree with September 30 as a cut-off for tag registration. I had most of my stuff ready to go last week after some great suggestions and a tally of the group database but now it looks like I'm going to have to re-think what I've got... :confused3

In all fairness to Kevin, who has been thoughtful enough to organize this for our DISmeet, I propose September 30th as the last day of registration for anyone who wants to play tag - I can't provide the yahoo link right now because I'm at work and yahoo is *evil* but I'm sure our resident IT Master and long-suffering Cubs fan can point everyone in the right direction.

P.S. Congrats on the docs, Kevin!! It feels good, doesn't it? :goodvibes

We will keep you in our prayers Paige!! :guilty: :wizard: :wizard: Sending some pixie dust your way... How scary! Make sure you get those documents!!

I just wish these storms would stop! I was just listening to the radio and the weatherman said this is the first time since 1995 that they have gotten into the "R" names!!! :confused3 :confused3

Be careful and keep us updated!

DiMitch,
Go check out our Yahoo group database and you can see where to answer yes or no to DIS tag. :goodvibes I am not too sure yet how it all works, but I think we get a list of names who are playing and stateroom #'s..Then as you get tagged you go leave something on the next stateroom # on your list? :confused3 Kevin will explain this all to us at the meet. I think you bring small things to leave that my represent your hometown or what you like ect...Like Postcards, stickers,Birthday or Anniversay cards for people celebrating those type things??? ;) I am keeping it simple!

Sound like it could be fun! :sunny:

We are evacuating to Dallas today in the face of Hurricane Rita.
I've lifted up prayers for you and all of those along the gulf coast that are in harm's way from Rita, and will continue to do so until Rita is no more.

I'm glad to hear that you are evacuating...Nine years ago we had a long night in Raleigh while Hurricane Fran passed over. Fran was "only" a Cat 1 by the time it went over Raleigh, but it made quite a mess and was a very scary event to go through. I can't even imagine trying to "ride out" a Cat 3 or higher.
I propose September 30th as the last day of registration for anyone who wants to play tag
I second the motion! :earsboy: That date should give folks plenty of time to decide if they wish to participate, while allowing all of us a little time with the final number known to complete our own preparations. (That should read "start preparations" in my case... )

Congrats Jen, Kevin, and other recent receivers of documents! :teeth:

...has anyone used "The Perfect Gift" for custom baskets delivered to the ship? I’ve read many-many great posts about them – any from our group that has used them? SSShhhh – I’d like to have a special basket made up for my bride…please don’t give away my secret.
Yes, Kevin, I used Shirley's services for our last cruise. I went all out...When we walked into our stateroom, there were four baskets, one for my wife, and one each for my children. They loved them! Shirley and company did a great job putting them together. (I called a couple of weeks before the cruise and we discussed the items that would go in each basket.) I probably won't repeat that this time...Four baskets gets kind of expensive! But I thought it was a nice way to start out our first cruise. Plus, the three "baskets" for the children were actually sand pails, which they later used on Castaway Cay.

24 days until embarkation! 485 hours until I start my vacation!

Paige, wishing the best :grouphug: stay safe.

Mia's Mom, welcome! :wave2:

d'Isigny... I too have used the Perfect Gift for a cruise basket. I can't say enough good things about Shirley :goodvibes

I have Dental cleaning on Tuesday, the 27th. Should I be afraid??!!!!! :earseek:

Welcome Mia's Mom & congrats to Kevin for doing "The Dance" :dancer:

Our Bio... I'm Jennefer-34 and my husband is Mark-49. We met when I was 20 & dating someone else. We started dating when I was 22, got married, and had 3 kids. We have been married a little over 11 years. I am a stay home mom I car pool ( my kids school is a 1/2 hour drive. It's a French Immersion, so my 5th grader basically speaks French fluently). Mark & I don't speak french, at all. :) Makes thinks kinda interesting. Between football 4 nights a week, 2 nights ballet/tap, church club, choir practice, etc. I can't wait for vacation! :) My husband does maintenance, helps out with catering, does a little investing. He basically does everything. He is a Navy Reservist and our oldest son just started the Navy League Cadet Corp. (He wants to be a Navy Seal). :) My husband is 1/2 Italian & we LOVE to cook interesting & yummy Italian food. Or I do at least, Mark just like's to eat it. We both have a good sense of humor, in fact that is what I love most about my husband. Although, he has a tendency to "open mouth, insert foot."
My husband likes movies, bikes, and basically collecting ANYTHING. I love to read, bake/cook, & garden & I love being a mom and doing all the "mom" things, and all the noise & commotion it entails. Oh, and I am kind of a type A & a list person, but then pretty easy going with the kids. :)

Okay, I think I'm done now, maybe even a little to much info. :teeth:

Take care Paige & I'll be keeping of you & your family in our thoughts and prayers. Don't forget you birth certificate/passports either.

First and most importantly, Paige....Be safe!! Keep in touch if you can and let us know how you are all doing.

Jo..."Just" a cleaning??? Be afraid, be very afraid!! :rotfl:

Mia's mom and Kevin...congrats on doing the Doc Dance :dancer:
(I WANT MINE!!!!). :guilty:

I think Michelle and I are the only one's left to receive docs.

Ok...here's the scoop on Nancy and Chuck.

Chuck is 48 and I am 49. We celebrated our 25th anniversary on June 14th and this cruise is our gift to each other. We are also Disney nuts having visited WDW over 16 times since 1980. We always stayed off grounds (because it was too expensive for us) until I won a radio station contest and were sent to Orlando. We decided to treat ourselves and stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort since the first 4 days were paid for by the station at a different resort. We were hooked!!! Never stayed off grounds again. :Pinkbounc

We have 2 kids, Tony 24, and Kristin 21. We met on the day Elvis died (makes the date easy to remember) in 1977 at a bar. I was a waitress and Chuck the customer. I dumped his drink on him and the rest is history!! :love2:

Chuck is a warehouse manager for a paper company and I am an office manager (or peon) for a printing broker. Chuck enjoys anything "basketball" and I love ANY football game (especially the Packers). Actually, you will find me in front of the tv every Sunday watching every game. I know, I know...I'm weird.

Like Brenda, we dream of winning the lottery, working at DisneyWorld selling balloons, and being retired by the end of this year. Our only salvation is winning the lottery to fullfill any of those dreams. :earboy2:

Looking forward to meeting all of you. 20 more days for us!!!

Nancy

Hey Jen,

I see your hubby is a bit older than you....So is mine. I am 37 and Gary is 45 and we met showing horses when I was 19. We dated 2 years and then got married and had Josie 5 years later. princess: She is 7 years old and a handful!! Gary works in Commercial Construction and is a Team roper and competes in local and some National sanctioned Rodeos. I have a Barrel Racing Horse and so we spent most of our married lives riding and hauling to different events. :goodvibes Then after 10 years of marriage Gary lost his mind!!!! (midlife crisis) :confused3 He left us with no warning!!! :guilty: I did not think I was going to make it,but I did and was able to keep our farm and it made me a stronger person. I went back to work Full time at Washington University Medical school where I had worked Part time after having Josie. Gary did not forget about us completely atleast...He always supported us and helped out...It was a very hard time in my life!!! Well thinks quickly fell apart in his life and he has finally realized how important his family is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :guilty: We have been apart 3 years (Divorced 2) and we have both realized that we are unhappy without each other! So we have found a way to put our lives back together.....We are in counseling and things are going very well..He is doing everything he needs to do without having to tell him...he is making huge steps to fix our family and I also am working on things I need to do. Anyway Josie is very happy and so am I. Of course my family and friends are Cautious (so am I)...I love him and I have to try...The Counselor thinks this trip will be good for all of us and so he is going with us. He would kill me if he knew I was telling you guys all of this!! :rolleyes1
So this trip is a new beginning for us!! :lovestruc Hopefully a new beginning for the rest of our lives!! So wierd cause we had a 7 day Western DCL trip booked for Jan 2003 and he left us in Sept of 2002....Now we have come full circle and we are back going on a DCL 7 night trip. :goodvibes

Josie is 7 and she loves riding horses and helping her Dad get the ropin steers up in the evenings...Tougher than any boy I know, but loves to dress up in Princess dresses when she gets the chance!

We have 5 horses,1 Donkey,2 dogs,2 cats...some Roping steers...We are not talking about getting re-married again yet!! That is down the road.... ;)
Mom has lots to take care of while we are gone on this trip! I will have to bring her good gift! :rotfl:

Anyway that is how we got where we are.....Hoping for the best! :sunny:

On a different note....

I noticed that a few of you are meeting up on the Friday before the cruise. Anyone staying at the airport Hyatt Regency that may be interested in doing the same thing? I was thinking the "pool" is a great idea too.

Let me know and we can figure out a time and place.

Nancy :wave2:

Hello,
My name is Paul Bradford. Cardinals are birds not bait. :rotfl2:
My wife Mollie and I are both 31 and we have Lily (5) and Grace (3.5) (Grace was born on Thanksgiving day 2001.... we ate yucky cold hospital turkey salad sandwiches for dinner that day). We've been married 9 years today (yay!). I work at a large cable company (soon to be broke into pieces) as a Network Engineer. I'm the guy that makes sure your surfing works and works fast. Mollie is the director of domestic security at our house. Since having kids she's been able to stay home with them. Before that (you'll love this) she worked as a DENTAL ASSISTANT! This will be cruise #2. The 1st one we took when Lily was 12 weeks old. It made life very interesting.... was a voracious baby.... give me milk now!!! so the dropoffs to Flounders always ended in us getting paged.

Mollie and I are also leaders in the Children's Ministry at our church in Coudersport, PA and I'm taking some online course to get a CM certificate. In fact I'm a big kid myself!

Lesseee sports in rank of like to watch:

1. Baseball (My blood runs cubbie blue) - I'm a loveable loser I guess :rotfl:
2. Football - a little bit Buffalo Bills fan but now have 2 fantasy leagues so I watch other games.
3. Is the NHL still around???!?! if so I kinda watch the sabres..
4. Curling
5. I like to watch tennis
100. I just don't like basketball (sorry)

I try to play golf... but have been called a hacker.

Later,
Paul

Paige and family...stay safe!!! :guilty: Be sure to check in when you return.

Welcome to all the new families. I'm so glad more people are joining the group.

My New Year's resolution is to learn how to *quote* on the DIS. But, since I'm too lazy...Nancy, we are staying at the Hyatt the night before, but our plan lands after 9pm. That might be too late. :confused3 Of course, we'll be bouncing off the walls. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

The bios are fun to read. Ours :flower: Brian (DH) 40, me 37 (not for long :rotfl: ), married 10 years. DD 9, favorite sport cheerleading/tumbling :cheer2: DS, 8 likes basketball, baseball and video games. By the way, do you think we can bring our Play Station? :rotfl2:

Let's see, what else, this will be our third Disney Cruise. I love Disney, Brian acts like he does because he loves me. :earboy2: Currently, I'm a SAHM, but in my previous life I was a nurse. I'll go back again...someday.

That's all I can think of now. I've been sick/injured, hopefully this means I'll be healthy and ready to go for the cruise!!!

Have a good week.

Happy Anniversary!!!

Even though I'm a newby...I feel like I'm beginning to get the hang of these boards and that I am slowly getting to know everyone.

Paige....Please be safe.....Our prayers are with you.

BabyJosie98...don't know your first name yet...sorry! I Thought it was Josie and then realized this was your daughter. Thanks for all the info on the tag game...will visit the link you gave me later. Also a note to both you and Jennefer...Is nice to know that I'm not the only one who married someone older...so Here goes our Bio.

I (Diane) am 41 and my hubby (Roger) is 13 years older at a whopping 54. We've been married for 12 years, and have 2 daughters, Kayla 9 (someone for sara's 9 yr old to play with) and Alyssa 12. Yah Yah Yah... I know....married 12 yrs with a 12 yr old daughter...Do the math....have you figured out which came first.... :rotfl2: That's o.k. my family is the greatest blessing in my life regardless of the order in which they were achieved. I am orignally Canadian (born in Montreal) then moved to Florida when my parents retired. I Spent 6-7 years there, and went to the University of Florida with many a college trip to Disney world which was only about ah hour away. Shortly after getting my degree (in child psychology) I moved to Colorado where I have lived ever since, and love it! My Favorite past-times are skiing, camping, & SCRAPBOOKING MANIAC. I am self employed as a day care provider and am in definate need of a vacation.!!!

My husband Roger was born and raised in Colorado, but did a lot of traveling in his early 20's when his career was music. He can play any type of instrument but mostly sax and keyboards. He played in several (small - unknown) bands for many years....but many of which toured with more well known bands as their opening acts. Luckily he changed his career path to business (otherwise we would never have met) and is currently a property manager for a medium size office complex and has a commercial real estate license. His favorite past-time is Golf Golf and more golf....guess what we're doing in st. thomas. :rotfl: He also loves watching Science fiction...go :confused3 figure... and skiing. He's not to much of a sports fan other than the above 2 mentioned though. Guess it's the musician in him. And our two girls....well they're kids....they love everything.....or they don't...depending on the day. They both really love gymnastics and skiing, and the older one likes to scrapbook with Mom.

O..k. guess I have rambled on long enough. can't wait to read more from the rest of you.. Diane.

First off - Paige, take care, be careful - you and everyone there are in our thoughts and prayers :wizard:

Bios:

Im 34 and David is 31 - we have a 5 yr old puppy Molson (germ.shep mix) :dog2: :paw: . We have been married 5 yrs as of Friday (Sept 23rd) - damn, feels like 30 yrs.... :rotfl2: ....anyways, we met in 1998 in a movie chatroom, yep we are an internet couple. He lived in Jax, FL and I was in Buffalo,NY - we chatted alot, then phoned eachother ALOT and once we met, it was like we knew eachother FOREVER!! I moved to Jax for 15 months, then he was so wonderful and brought me HOME. A girl is lonely without her best friend and mom.....We purchased our home in May 2003 and have been working on it ever since, hopefully it will be done soon  Since David won't let me get another dog, I guess we are gonna start thinking about extending our family to include a grandchild for my mom - she has soo much love to give and well, Molson is to big to cuddle...hehehehe
We both work for a Third Party Insurance Administrator - David is a claims analyst and I am a claims auditor.

This is our second cruise (first was Oct 2003) and we have been booked over a year and are very EXCITED to be going. We have a group of about 22 and most of us are staying at Saratoga Springs on the Friday before we leave.

We both enjoy shopping, playing cards, hanging out with our friends especially cause they have an AWESOME pool - David loves his football (the Bills, The Bucs, and the Jags) and I love photography (so Ill have a ton of pics to share!!).

Anyways...since I have rambled on long enough Ill end it here......thanks for letting me share our little story...its fun reading about all of you too!!

See ya in about 23 days!! WOOOHOOOO :cool1: :cool1:

DiMitch, Michelle, it is nice to know that I'm not the only one with an older hubby. ;)

Can anyone help me or direct me into were I can find out the prices for dry cleaning, laundry services, ironing on the ship. I did my own laundry last time, but this time I am going to do it the easy way. Besides, I know I will have some wrinkled clothes this time around. I'm travelling light(er). No garment bag. After all, I did promise my hubby that I wouldn't torture him with ALL my luggage as I did last time. :teeth:

Jen,

I can check my navigators from last year when I get home...don't know if that information will be included but it can't hurt to look.

Is there anything in that little cruise book that DCL sent with your document booklet?

I have a 60" long garment bag that I bought last year that I used and it was awesome - my long dresses barely had any wrinkles in them at all even after going from the house to the airport to WDW to the port to our cabin.

I am physically incapable of traveling light. My husband knows the score - he refers to himself as the "pack-mule" whenever we travel anywhere. :teeth:
