October 13, 2013 4 Night Cruise!!!!

Our first Disney Cruise was a teaser out of NYC. It was literally a cruise to nowhere. (2 nights and jus sea days.)

It was fun - we had my oldest nephew and my dad along for the trip.

We did Alaska on the Coral Princess, a Panama Canal Partial on Island Princess, the Med on Liberty of the Seas, and now this one with Disney after our every 5 years WDW vacation.

This board is quiet compared to others I've experienced (on cruise critic.) But just so you know, I'm the only poster for this cruise itinerary on there...

The last time I researched this trip, there were plenty of cabins available. Maybe it's just a short cruise combined with a slow booking season?

I've started to order supplies for the FE..Oriental Trading had a free shipping deal.

Awesome. Good to see someone posting on the thread. :thumbsup2

This is our first "short" cruise and I must say there is a marked difference in terms of the discussion that goes on for longer cruises versus the shorter cruises. For our two 11 might Med cruises and our 14 night Panama Canal cruise our meet thread was upwards of 250 to 300 pages! I've skimmed around some of the other 4 night Dream threads and noticed that most of them are like this one - the longest I've found is 25 pages.

I wonder why that is? Certainly the Dream is larger than the Wonder or Magic so number of people going isn't it. Perhaps it's the length of the cruise?

Oh, and Kstatefan, my daughter and son-in-law are in Junction City, KS. He's an officer in the Army stationed at Fort Riley.

I think it just might be our cruise, I know a big group from Nashville ,TN is going...
On my other cruise 2 days to nowhere that's in May 2014 and they have about 12-13 pages already... I am excited and thankful for all the work you have put into this for us ... RTR Julie

Welcome this is my second cruise and I am very excited to go... I am a talker and I haven't said much due to lack of messages.. Just booked my parents on this cruise also, their first cruise ever..

Bought FE gifts today, now trying to figure out how to transport everything.

I have been working on my first ever FE and it looks ok. I do not sew so I used my craft favorite...the glue gun! I used black velour for the base and felt to make Mickey and Minnie shaped clothes. I actually found red felt with white polka dots! I will put pictures up when done.

I have been told...lol...I better make sure I have room for the FE because hubby is NOT carrying it in his luggage!

Being a charter member of our local Overpackers Club, I am with you both on finding room but I have learned that shipping boxes to the port is not a bad way to go. I have done that several times over the years and never had an issue - the box is always in our cabin when we arrive although I will say, I always ship UPS so that I have a tracking number.

Ugly rainy day here in Michigan - with freeze warnings for tomorrow and Friday evening! Did someone say it was spring??

Welcome aboard glindamood! :grouphug:

This is going to be weird for us because we know the Magic/Wonder like the back of our hands. Getting oriented to the Dream will be fun though. We had a similar feeling back in December when we visited California Adventure. We've been to WDW and Disneyland so many times we know every short cut and bypass of crowds and lines there is to know but I actually had to use a map at CA.

Returning to Castaway Cay will be interesting too. We haven't been there since our first Disney cruise! I'm know it's changed considerably!

Thanks for the welcome! We started sailing in 2000 on the Magic and have cruised at least once a year since then. Our first trip away from the classics was last December on the Fantasy and I must admit - I was really not looking forward to it. I was worried I would get lost, spend all my time walking and bumping into all those additional passangers. I was SO WRONG!!!! It will take a bit of getting used to but it really was easy - so easy that we cancelled a Celebrity cruise to the PC (with a two day canal experience that I really do still want to do) to do the back to back next November on the Fantasy. You are correct, it is different but good different!

To the conversation regarding how full the ship is - I will say that only late dining was available when I started researching, I could not get over how many categories were in GTY status (and I am too much of a control freak to try that but that is another topic) so my guess is this cruise is filling.

Enjoy your evening!!!

Here's what I got done for my FE:

It's not finished.
The bottom pocket is done, all cut out and glued etc. the top pocket (mickey) is not, that is just the loose felt pieces in the place where the pocket will be cut. It will be lined with felt like the bottom one.

Where the pencil is sticking out is the bottom pocket. The bottom pocket goes down to the bottom of the FE.

I basically made a velour sock, with a felt reinforcement at the bottom. I cut a slit on one side of the sock and lined the opening with felt, and hot glued it in place (top edge and bottom edge.) The shoes are not attached yet.

Please let me know what you think...it's very different from most of the FEs I have seen. I did not follow any patterns and honestly.. I am winging it.:crazy2:

My stuff came in today for the FE exchange. after showing all to my hubby, he said we are bringing an empty suitcase, so we can put it the FE stuff in thre if I do not have room...huh?
I asked him why, cause we check our luggage and that means more baggage fees...he said we did not have to worry about it..
I bugged more.. but.. I'm not paying for an empty suitcase...maybe we could put a smaller one inside a larger one.. I pushed...
he said. okok...i burned all my frequent flyer miles and we are going first class..oh.. and by the way the flight home is on a plane fitted for international travel, so we get international first class coming home. Surprise.

:lovestruc :cloud9:

ok. FE problem solved. The empty suitcase we are bringing is for gifts and stuff we buy at WDW/Cruise.

That is very cute. I purchased mine on ebay - I have the crafting ability of a knat - maybe less. If you are flying first class - don't you get free bags?? I know that is the case for AirTran and Delta. We are flying Southwest for this trip - never been that brave before (plus I don't like the 3-1/2 hour drive to Detroit) but there is a non-stop out of Grand Rapids these days so we are going to give that a shot.

Tomorrow we are headed to Ohio to see my Mom for the weekend - looking forward to spending time with her - the 6 hour car ride, not so much but there are books on my Kindle so I will be good.

Take care and have a good day!

Yes! We are flying first class and get free bags, but I did not know that because my hubby was keeping the first class part a secret. :) I was worried about bag space and limiting myself to one suitcase for no reason - hubby said we are taking an extra suitcase and I can put the FE and gifts in it if I run out of room in my luggage. We are flying USAir from Philly - it's about a 45 min trip from where we are in NJ.

(NJ is really suburbs of two cities... the south is a suburb of Philly and the North is a suburb of NYC...with beach towns on the coast and farms in-between north and south.

usually when I try to 'wing it' my craft ideas go very very badly. There is still a chance for that to happen.

have 'fun' on your long car ride! I'm not going anywhere - I live in the path of the traffic going to the south jersey shore sites.

I've got us a web page up. Wow, given the small number of posts in the thread I didn't think there were many DIS folks on the cruise but putting together the Roll Call changed my mind. Speaking of the Roll Call, if you have more information on your group you'd like to share or pictures you'd like to email me to post instead of the pics I put up just click on the "Email Jeff" tab and send them to me. Don't worry about the size of the pic - I will scale it down to fit.

Susan and I will be happy to also do the Fish Extender list so I'll read back through the thread and pull together a list and add it to the website too.

Can you tell we are both logical/organized engineers? :thumbsup2

Hi~
i added our name to the FE list but could not figure out how to add our cabin # to the roll call list. My son and I will be in cabin 5542. Cant wait to meet everyone. Looking forward to participating in the FE. We did one last year while on the Wonder to Alaska and it was so much fum. thanks Jeff for setting this one up.

We don't have a room assigned yet....have GTY class 5E, deluxe oceanview verandah room. As we are cruise newbies, I was wondering if the odds for pixie dust are better when there seems to be more unbooked rooms?

Good Luck..with the room with GTY... I have a GTY in May 2014 on the Cruise to nowhere out of San Diego.. I am hoping for a room onboard. I have never had a GTY room before. The Dream will be my 2nd cruise.

Love it, its so cute...

Hopefully my gifts will fit in a carry on, we are driving down (9 hours) since our last trip flight down to Orlando ( 1 1/2 flight time) turned into a 23 hour ordeal. I always pack a extra suitcase inside my carry-on luggage.

:welcome: SamIam929! I am new to his group (just booked last week) but we have sailed on DCL quite a few times. I can't say we ever did GTY but there is a thread on the main board where people are reporting what they were assigned and when that assignment was. You won't get anything less than a 5E - it appears some get pixie dusted and some end up with exactly what they booked.

Gorgeous day here in Ohio yesterday, even if the Indians did loose . Off to see DH's mom later this morning and then some more down time with my mom and home tomorrow. Take care everyone and enjoy your day!
