October 12, why a 10 am opening?

Thinking of going on Sunday 10/12 for a day trip, but is anything up? For some reason the park doesn't open until 10 am when all other Saturdays and Sundays in October have an 8:00 am opening. Just seems odd. Anyone know of anything I should be aware of going on that day?

Thanks!

I can't even begin to describe how chaotic that 10am opening was last year. The esplanade was packed. The walk ends in DTD, then people head to the ticket booths to get their discount tickets for participating. The hub was shoulder to shoulder people and strollers waiting during MM, which was at 9am. Then the sea of people turned violent making their way to the rides. Never again.

Oh. My! Thank you for the info. Might be rethinking that day! Sounds terrible!

Thanks for asking! This will be our last day and I didn't realize there was anything going on. Now I can be prepared for chaos at least! :)

Went the year before and encountered the same thing. Chaos.

Is it crowded the week leading up to the CHOC walk?

The CHOC walk is almost exclusively a locals event. The week leading up to it is fall break for a number of schools and it leads into Columbus day so there might be some crowds that week but I would not think they would be linked in any way to the CHOC walk itself other than on the day of the walk.

We've been there I on CHOC Walk day (three years ago I believe) and concur with everyone else. The morning was total and complete chaos!

We planned a trip 2 years ago with no knowledge of the CHOC walk and we are early risers and even so arriving at the turnstiles 30-40 minutes before opening..it was Carsland opening crazy. I tell everyone to avoid that date/weekend at all costs. Don't say we didn't warn you lol.

I completely agree with the above posters about the chaos and crowds on CHOC Walk morning. But as a walker, it is not easy exiting the parks (DCA last year and DL 2 years ago) to angry, almost hostile crowds blaming us for the delay. Some people actually yelled at us to move it. C'mon people -- we're walking to raise money for Children's Hospital OC! More walkers = more money raised. We have walkers who are children, elderly, disabled, etc. So please don't get mad if we don't finish fast enough for you!

We realized there were going to be crazy crowds, but decided to take a chance anyway. Is there any way we will be able to get back to Pirate's League by 10:30? Maybe I need to cancel for that morning and grab a different time/day?

I think that once you get to Golden Horseshoe that most of the crowd will go left to POTC and HMH and you'll easily be able to go right. I wouldn't go through Fantasyland just because it's farther to get to the castle, MM will already be happening and the Frozen return time seekers will be headed there.

Is it worth going to the Disneyland 9am EMH this morning? We are staying at the DLH with A tour booked in the afternoon. Wondering if it's better to stay at the pool in the morning and go over later to avoid the hub chaos.

Do you think DCA will be as bad? Its our first full day in the park (get in on Saturday around noon, headed to the park as soon as we're settled). I didn't know about this walk, but oh well, its when we could go...

My original plan of attack had been to head over to world of color FP, then it sounds like carsland is the busiest place and where I need to make sure we get FPs for Radiator Springs? Done DL and DCA before, but not since cars land...

How crazy will Magic Morning be at DL? I'm buying an annual pass, but the rest of my group has 3 days and wre planning to do MM there then head over to DCA... sounds like if its going to be badly crowded they might have trouble getting between parks...

Thanks! We are going to give it a try.

So park opens at 10 but EMH is at 9.... can we take the monorail at 9 and avoid the mob or does it not run till 10?
