October 11, 2014 7-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise on Disney Magic (San Juan)

We did too! :) We are taking the 1pm on Thursday - which one did you pick?

None of the flight times to Orlando gave us enough time to make it work stopping for a night.

I booked our return home and I think will be flying home with you on, our flight routes through Tampa and Denver. It's going to a LONG day.

Looking at port excursions. I just don't want this cruise to be a marathon like the European cruise was. I was exhausted running from place to place. Our Eastern Caribbean was somewhat rushed also with the excursions. Just want to relax in the beauty of sun and warmth (under a beach umbrella) and beach. Sick of northeast this winter. It seems it will never end. Snow and freezing temps. I know my husband would LOVE zip lining (we are early 60's) and he is a thrill seeker. I don't do roller coasters unless they are in the dark and I close my eyes on splash mountain. So I don't think it's for me. But I want him to have this adventure. Oh what to do. Would it be like skiing and going up and the only way down is to ski down? Oh my...

I don't think that zip line and roller coasters are the same. I do not like roller coasters and try to get out of going on them whenever I can. I would zip line again. After the first one (I'm not going to lie -it is scary) you have a lot of fun. The views are great and all you do is glide slightly down. No sharp turns or big drops to worry about. Sometimes the hike to get to the zip line is tough so I would be working out a little before hand by walking and climbing stairs.

We decided to fly into MCO on the Wednesday, overnight at the Hyatt, then catch the first SWA to San Juan on the Thursday - that way we'll spend a day and a half (2nts) in San Juan before boarding the Magic!

I agree with this. I'm almost 60 too, I did a zipline with my daughter 3 years ago. I was a total tree hugger for the first couple of ropes, until I realized that I was hooked on in 2 places all the time. I could scare myself with a slip, but I wouldn't fall. I also zip lined last year in a different location. One thing I found, and you could probably check into, was that if all you had to do was lift your feet, and off you go...that was not too bad. But when we had to jump off the edge, that was a bit more intimidating. It was scarey, but I loved it atfter I got the hang. I'd do it again...but my hubby won't even consider it. Ha ha! Cindi

Hello All. Cruising with 12 others including family and friends! Counting down until we leave MN and head to Puerto Rico! Trying to get a hotel reservation in Puerto Rico for Friday night has been a challenge. Ended up at Embassy Suites about 5 miles from port. Turns out a cab will cost $21.oo for a family of 4 and 1$ per suitcase. Pretty cheap compared to the cost of Disney transportation from their recommended hotels and a free breakfast.

It is my understanding we can start to check in at 11:00 and then on the ship at 1:00. Has anyone else heard that?

Also read about the Pirates party on the last night. Big bummer as that is usually a hectic night getting luggage out and all.

Anyone heard of any great excursions?

Would love to be on the FE list but we won't get our room assigned to us for awhile. Suggestions?

Welcome aboard and what a small world we are also from Andover, MN we are a family of 4 and can't wait for this cruise.

Hi everyone! We live in San Juan and are booked on this cruise and I wanted to help answering a few questions listed on his thread.

For those staying at the Embassy Suites San Juan you really should not have a problem getting a taxi to the port. They usually have taxis there or can call for one. The Embassy Suites is located in the Isla Verde tourist area, lots of taxis available in this area.

There is plenty to do near the port, great restaurants and bars, lots of historical sites and beautiful scenery. You will have no problem finding something to do on your arrival or departure day.

If anyone has anymore questions I will be happy to answer them ;)

Can you tell me more about the Condado area and the best western there? How far to beach... How good is the beach... What else is around? Thanks!

Is it the Best Western Condado Palm? It is located in the middle of Condado, not the main avenue, but, off a side street. It's not a beachfront property, but, the beach should be about 10-15 minutes from the hotel. I don't think they have a restaurant, but, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. It's a typical Best Western with nice, clean rooms in a great location.

Condado is a very nice, residential and tourist area with lots of restaurants and hotels. It is also a 10 minute drive to Old San Juan and the cruise terminal.

Ahoy Mateys :boat: We just booked this cruise along with the repo to PC. Flights are booked so now the planning begins. Sailing with me is DH Allen & DMIL Silvana. I've done 10 previous DCL cruises, Allen 6 & Silvana 2. None of us have ever done a Southern Caribbean Itinerary before so we're particularly excited about this one! If Anyone is setting up a private Mixology Class please count us in!!

Just booked with the 3 days to PC. Who is doing that?

Lots of us. Last count was around 57 families and that's only DIS people. I have the funny feeling more the waiting area for reboarding is going to be very crowded.

Welcome aboard.

Am I right in assuming that since San Juan is our embark/debark port that there will be no planned excursions? I'm doing the repositioning cruise also, and I guess in my mind, San Juan was just another excursion port.

I thank everyone that has posted things to do there, but I'm disappointed because one of the excursions that I had read about will be unavailable. It was the cooking lesson at one of the restaurants. Well, that gives me more time to explore, right? :)
