Is there a chance the oil spill could cause our cruise to change?

Sorry if this is a repeat question.:confused3

I think it is too early to tell, but BP surely doesn't seem to have a solution to stop the oil so who knows how bad this will get.

I am just completely blown away by how unprepared BP seems to be. After watching 60 minutes this past Sunday I just can't believe how this all has been handled.:sad2:

There is a thread about this on the main disney cruise line forum listed about how it might affect Castaway Cay. I'm sure Disney has a game plan for changing itineraries if the need arises. Very sad that this disaster happened (with no resolution in sight) and that people lost their lives. I shudder to think what it will do to the important environmental habitat areas all around the gulf. People whose livelihood is dependent on the gulf in one way or another (fisheries, tourism) have great uncertainty about what the future holds for them. I went to college at UC Santa Barbara and there were little batches of tar that still came up on the beaches near campus -- and that oil spill off the SB coastline had happened 20 years earlier.

I know this is not Disney related but my 2y/o DD Sarah LOVES the Nick Jr show Yo Gabba Gabba. They do a live stage show and today just released the dates for the US tour. We were very disappointed to see Tampa's date is on October 30, right when we will be happily sailing along the east coast of FL on our way to KW.....

HOWEVER there is a Kissimmee, FL show on Friday October 29, so for any of you who have a little YGG fan and are in the area (and not at WDW) that day before the cruise just thought I'd let you know! :) Looks like we will have to try and catch it!

Friday, October 29 Kissimmee, FL Silver Spurs Arena at Osceola Heritage Park

I had reserved a room at the Hyatt MCO for the night before the cruise. After getting our airline tickets that land us there at 11:30am, I've now had a change of heart. So decided to cancel the MCO hotel and instead reserved a room at the Country Inn and Suites. I wasn't able to get the $49 deal off of priceline, but after trying a few days in a row I finally got it for $75 (+ tax and fees it comes to $91). Never used Priceline before so was very nervous about hitting the wrong buttons and getting stuck with something I didn't want. But thanks to all of you who spelled out the process, it worked!!! It also helped to follow the priceline one-time hint to go for $75 when I kept bidding a lower amount that they rejected. I didn't realize it would do that but glad I followed their hint. I'm still pleased with the $75 deal and it is much cheaper than staying in Orlando and then taking DCL transport. Figure it will save us about $120 total. We'll rent a car for one day (I see rates as cheap as $20) and that way can hit the grocery store plus maybe have some time at KSC or the beach. A much better plan with little ones who will get to expend lots of energy closer to the port. So maybe we'll run into some of you at the hotel or at some dinner spot!

Not sure if we'll return the car later that day and use the hotel shuttle or simply return the car to the rental agency the morning of the cruise. Anyone got an opinion on that? Also I'm not sure about booster seats for the car rental -- it would be cheaper to bring our own, but then we have all the hassle of carting them around our whole vacation (we're staying at WDW afterwards). After the cruise is over I'm thinking we'll use Happy Limo to get to WDW as a treat instead of the DCL transport or another rental car.

As all these plans get firmed up it makes the cruise seem more of a reality!

We are still silver as well. This is our fourth cruise on DCL. Fifth overall.:thumbsup2

Great! That's what happened to us too, as far as the price. It appears to be slowly going up, for those still out there eyeing CIS through Priceline. (We got it for $73 last month.)

Also I'm not sure about booster seats for the car rental -- it would be cheaper to bring our own, but then we have all the hassle of carting them around our whole vacation (we're staying at WDW afterwards).

Yep that would be a pain. I would ask the rental car companies if they have boosters available for rent. I know many of them have car seats, not sure on the availability of boosters but IMO it would be worth the few extra bucks to rent them to avoid having to tote them around with you! We had a car seat with us on our last cruise since we were driving in Mexico..it was a real PITB!;)

Silver here, this will be our 3rd cruise. After our B2B on the Dream next year, we'll move up a color!

The mention of a car rental for as low as $20.00 sounds awesome (of course fees, insurance ect might bump that up to $50 or $60 something?). We'll need to rent a car for our 2011 Dream trip as we'll be flying down for that one. There will be 6 of of (bringing my mom and her BF along), and I'm starting to think it would cost less for us to rent TWO cars instead of One Van.

I'm SOOOOoooooo missing having a countdown chain here at home, but with having the trip a surprise right up to the last minute, thats a no-can-do here.
DS6 has decided he wants a pirate party for his Birthday this summer, and I was SO happy with that, as it'll be a pseudo Disney time for me! There is a company here called Pirate adventures, and they have a real Pirate Ship downtown on the Rideau Canal. The kids will have fun:

· discovering the treasure map
· solving the maps secrets & mysteries
· defending the ship with our water cannons aginst the evil "Pirate Pete"
· making "Pirate Pete" walk the plank
· hauling the loot aboard
· sharing the booty
· singing a sea shanty, with a wee bit of grog
· and generally living the adventure of a pirate for a moment of time.

AWESOME!! This was NEW as of last year. I'm thinking of booking the party for the end of June instead of the on his birthday as his birthday is in the middle of July, and SOOOOO many people take their holidays then. Last summer, hardly anyone could make it to his party because of holidays. My goodness, end of June isn't too far away! Better get this booked!

After checking around re the booster seat question, I discovered that Hertz and National rent them for sure. Dollar didn't have anything on their website to suggest they offered boosters for rent. And then I got tired of the online hunt as the prices all seemed pretty close to each other. So....we went with Hertz b/c my husband has gold status, meaning that the car is waiting for us when we get off the shuttle bus and we can avoid having to stand in line in an office. We needed two boosters and they gave us one for free -- the other is $12 to rent. So with a full size car to fit all our luggage and the boosters, with a AAA reduction figured in and with all the taxes/fees added our grand total was $68. We could have gotten a rental for cheaper with other agencies but opted for convenience and the guarantee that boosters for our children would be in the car. We just didn't want to lug ours around and $12 seemed reasonable for hassle-free convenience. I did learn on the boards that some car rentals will let you stick your boosters and/or car seats in a trash bag for storage at their port rental office until you come back to pick up another rental post-cruise. But that doesn't work for us as we don't plan on renting a car post-cruise to get us to WDW. I just need to remember to use some antiseptic wipes on those boosters to make sure little germies don't spoil our cruise before it even starts!

We are gold, Missy has been on 8 Disney cruises, I have been on 6. We booked the 5 day Dream cruise 08/16/11 so we will reach the Platinum level next year.

When we were married at the Wedding Pavilion next to the Grand Floridian in 2002 and went on my first cruise I have been hooked ever since.

I often say the best week of the year is when we are on the Magic. :thumbsup2

We are silver as this is our 5th cruise!

We are silver. This will be our 3rd Disney Cruise. But always looking to book others!

HELLO!

Please add us to the roll call....

Will be Myself, My Husband, My Daughter(5). We are from Coral Springs, FL.

We will be joined my my parents from Brooklyn, NY

Welcome aboard!:cheer2:

Since we changed our plans and are coming in on October 23, a week early, I don't know what we are doing about a car. The last 2 times I've gone to Florida, I've had some good luck with priceline.com, naming my own price. I've gotten a mini-van at $25 per day (20 days) and last time a mid-size SUV for $20 per day (8 days). Both times, Alamo was the agency accepting the price. This was flying into Tampa and renting there.

Priceline.com doesn't recognize Port Canaveral or anywhere near there, it defaults to the nearby airports for me to return the car on a one way rental:confused3. I have Budget rented upon departure from the ship but don't really know what I'm going to do about the 7 days before the cruise yet. I'd really like to name my own price. Got an email out to them asking if I can modify a car reservation once I book it. I guess we'll see.

Getting real close to the end of the year for the girls so far as school goes. Last day of school is next Wednesday!

Linda

QUESTION OF THE DAY

5/21/2010:
If you have cruised before, what is something new you want to try this time?
If this is your first cruise, what is the one thing you want to try this time?

dizney-cruiser:
Janice:This time I would like to walk to the end of Serenity Bay! I have said that before and normally hit the first empty beach spot and stay there until lunch. . . but I'm hoping this year I take the walk out to the peninsula!
Linda: This time I would like to go to one of the themed events such as 80s Night

Fastpaks
Its funny because I was just talking about this subject with my wife. I told her if it was possible, to go para-sailing. Lol providing I have the money. Other than that, in the work life I'm a tense individual, on a vacation I tend to relax a ton. I almost think that is what I m most looking forward too.

JKSWonder
I would like to try some of the family activities on board. Our 1st cruise was a 4 day, so we did not have the opportunity to participate in much except the shows. I wonder what seeing a movie would be like or maybe doing one of the game shows or family dance activities.
And selfishly, I would like to try a solo spa appointment. DH and I did the exotic rasul (and hope to again), but I would love to have a facial or a half body massage.
Oh and wine tasting and martini tastings!
Sheesh, now I am thinking even a 7 day won't be long enough!

lsjones:
We are looking forward to going to The Quiet Cove (didn't go at all first cruise) and to Palo, which we didn't do first cruise either.

mvlimmex:
Something that we would like to try that we have not before is to have supper at Palos. We have only had brunch there and it is AWESOME! Hopefully supper will be just as good.

nenner1
Weellllllll......On some of our past cruises I think we did find a way to DO IT ALL! LOL! I had a hard time thinking of something we haven't done, but...
I am looking forward to participating in/seeing more of the game shows and competition type shows. That hour between shows and dinner has always been hectic with pictures or this and that, and we have never really been able to see much of those shows. We had a blast on Royal Caribbean doing this sort of thing, so I am looking forward to enjoying those game shows with a Disney touch! Maybe I'll even get to play!

PrincessTrisha
Martini tasting. Certainly not something I would probably pay to do "at home". Really though, there are so many things that I want to do - the shows, the meals, laying around relaxing, trying a bunch of fruity tropical drinks that you can only get away with drinking on vacation cause otherwise you look silly holding something like a Miami Vice or Conch Cooler in your hand any other time

threeiscrazy:
The thing I'd most like to do that I haven't done yet is dinner at Palo.

tjbaggot:
Last fall I joined eyesformickey and her DH on the Wave runner tour at CC. I LOVED IT, Was SO happy I went, but forgot to take the camera (it's a water camera), so I have NO photos from the experience. I would LOVE to do that again, and this time take the camera. I'm debating on taking the DH too, my only problem with that is that he would WANT to drive, and I don't trust him (not after Brian Dumped both he and Kim in the water last time) I can just picture my DH doing that on Purpose! I would also LOVE to just get over to Serenity Bay for a bit (I've NEVER BEEN!) OH, and the Vegetable Car Races with my boys! Palo for Dinner! Gee, Can you tell I've never been on the Magic before BUT mostly, I'm exicted about BOARDING THE MAGIC! Yes, thats what I look forward to FIRST!

tinkerbelltwins:
I look forward to seeing the sparkle in my daughters' eyes when they get to interact with the characters on the ship. Utterly magical to see children embrace the fantasy and wonder of Disney!

We did the same thing!! We got out on the sandbar and the guide said, "who wants me to take a picture with their camera?" and we all just looked at each other!! We might be re-doing this too . . . :rotfl:
