We really need to get off this page cause that pic of the beignets is killing me (and my diet!) :rotfl2:

I've never had a beignet before. Are they more like a donut or a waffle?
They DO look YUMMY!

Have you ever had a zeppole or a funnel cake? The taste is somewhat similiar. Fried dough, though not as heavy as a donut or a waffle. More airy. Puffier. Yummy!

Sorry to say I haven't had either of those either. It does sound though, like something friends make for our group on New Years. It's a Dutch treat called Oly Bollen. Mmmmmm even thinking of them is making my mouth water! Think I'll cook some up this weekend. I just hope my friend doesn't find out I'm making them now (if I do) (she says these are NEW YEARS treats ONLY!) LOL Here's the recipe for them if any of you are interested, I'm trying to think of how I could get them into a Mickey Head shape......

DUTCH OLY BOLLEN

3 1/4 c. flour
2 pkg. dry yeast
1 c. milk
1/4 c. shortening
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
3 egg yolks
Cooking oil
Powdered sugar

Combine 2 cups flour and yeast. Heat milk, shortening, 1/3 cup sugar and salt until warm; stir occasionally. Add vanilla; milk mixture, eggs and egg yolks to dry ingredients. Beat at low speed for 1/2 minute.
Beat at high speed for 3 minutes. Stir in 1 1/4 cup flour and cover. Let rise until dough is double original mass. Drop tablespoons of dough into deep hot fat, 375 degrees. Fry 3 minutes. Dough should turn light brown. Drain on paper towel. Serve immediately sprinkled with powdered sugar.

They just opened up their schedule from October 30th all the way to November 5th. UGHHH!! I need June 10th to get here so I can make this trip "official" with airfare.

/cue the Mission impossible music

So my wife went to Home Depot a couple weeks ago and came back with 30 of these. I knew this wouldn't be enough SOOOO we went back to Home Depot.. and the result is

Thedoor.jpg

We came out with a total of 189.. on the Door is 173 and my son is peeling them off everyday. The odd thing is that the days are going FASTER now that he is doing this.

More later in the PTR but I promised the wife I would be responsible and go to bed at a reasonable hour. ttyl

Wow! that is a lot of Mickey heads!

People keep asking me when I'm going away (traditionally I do a spring trip and a fall trip but because of the week at WDW and then the cruise - it's just the fall trip this year). My standard response has just become "October". In my mind, it's still too far away to start counting down the days - I'm really missing my dose of May/June sunshine this year......:headache:

The Halloween cruise is becoming ever more real. Yahoo -- I booked our Jet Blue reservations today! We're flying in the night before and staying at the airport hotel. Still haven't figured out if we'll do the DCL transport or Happy Limo (my husband loves to check out various transportation modes so we might do DCL transport one way and then try out HL on the return). After the cruise we are spending one night at WDW. Saturday will be our park day at MK with a casual lunch somewhere and dinner at the California Grill. Our flight back home is Sunday evening so we plan on spending the park day at Epcot and having lunch at Le Cellier. Yum! Last time we were at Epcot the girls loved taking around their fake passports to all the different countries so we'll do that again. Added benefit is that I can make it part of a lesson plan for their missed school days so their teachers should like that! I decided not to do character meals at the parks as I think the children will get a heavy dose of that on the ship.:boat:

I would SO love to go to Epcot for our park day, but I KNOW the boys won't choose that one. Le Cellier, we tried and tried last year to get a booking for there, and were never able to. The tip posted earlier about calling the restaurant directly is a great one, and I'll have to remember that for the next time we might ever get to WDW (hopefully we can work that in in 2011). We ended up going to Chef De France, and I regret it. The food wasn't good (parts were), the only fun part was watching the entertainment going on outside the window we were sat by, and the Maitre D that brought Remy Over for a visit. I've heard people Rave about Le Cellier though, so REALLY hope to get there some day!

Judy, I tried the WDW online ADR off my home computer for Le Cellier to no avail. Did it in years' past too and it always said not available. So I called the WDW dining people and they were able to fit us in for lunch. Didn't call the restaurant directly but that was my next step (after reading this forum) if we couldn't get anything. The woman I spoke to said that it is always easier to get LC for lunch rather than dinner and given our travel plans home that night it worked out perfectly! Like you, Steve and I had a so-so meal at Chef de France the last time we were there. The kids were at the kids club at the Beach Club and in hindsight we would have taken the opportunity sans kids to just walk around and taste things on the go from the various countries!

Just upgraded!

We were in a category 10 deluxe and our TA called and Disney offered us a cat 9 for $95.00!

I just checked our ressie and we are still Cat 9 GTY...Hope they keep upgrading and fill up all those 9's. That would bump us up to a 6 or better:thumbsup2 I want to try at port, if need be, to upgrade to a verhandah.

They just opened up their schedule from October 30th all the way to November 5th. UGHHH!! I need June 10th to get here so I can make this trip "official" with airfare.

I'm waiting to book our return flight also. I've already changed our flight to Florida to arrive on 10/23. I want to book our return for 11/7.

Boy, this thread is a busy one. I was off for 2 weeks and I think 8 pages were filled! My daughter and I just got back from Florida and we were able to do 4 days at WDW. The crowds were very managable and we had a great time.

MNSSHP tix prices are a bit high. I'll decide later if we want to go and on which day. We went last year @ California Adventure. It was fun and the girls got tons of candy. It wasn't too crowded either.

The Epcot Food and Wine Festival sounds very interesting. I think we'll have to do that.

I'm having a hard time getting into planning mode. Looks like we will have 6 days to do things pre-cruise and the day that we disembark. So really, that's 7 days to do things. My sister and her daughter will be coming also. She will probably do an 8 day pass. She's not going on the cruise but will stay at our house while we are gone. We'll probably only do a 4 day pass. We also still have our Give a Day passes. I guess I'd better start thinking about any dinner ressies that we will want.

And Captain Marvins. I'd like to make a decision on that very soon. I'm concerned about my youngest and her fears. Hummm. Yes, I better get into planning mode soon.

I'm working on my FE gifts. I made my FE for our last cruise and really like it, so I'm set there. Someone had mentioned a Secret about the FE gifts and I just want to say that my daughter's would enjoy them also.

Well. This is my first day at home in 2 weeks. Gotta get going and get something done somewhere. I feel a little lost right now, lots to do but no focus point.

We have a Cat. 6 GTY. Just think, if they upgrade us to a Cat. 4, our Cat. 6 could be all yours! So, I will think happy postive thoughts for both of us! :flower3:

I've gotten all the planning I can do at this point done already (WDW reservations, dining reservations, flights booked). So now I just have to wait patiently (right, that's gonna happen!) for our 90 day window to open up so I can book our DCL stuff.

We did a Stingray excursion on our last cruise, so I think we are going to try something different this time....probably dolphin related. My DD is also 9 and she loved the Stingray excursion we did, although she was a little leery about it first. Once she was in the water and the stingrays swam past a few times, she got used to it. DH stayed close by her in case she felt the need to jump into his arms (she did this once or twice), but otherwise, it worked out fine.

Does anyone know if I can carry on a purse in addition to my carry on bag? I've always been a "purse girl" since I was about 12 and never go anywhere without one (when I try, my pockets end up so loaded down it's pure insanity).

If I have to I'll make sure that it can fit into my carry on bag but I'd prefer not to since I'd rather have our passports, money, medications and credit cards, exactly where I can see them.

Thanks.

I am pretty sure most airlines allow one carry on and one personal item (purse, briefcase, diaper bag, small backpack, etc.) :thumbsup2

On the ship I do not believe carryons are limited.

Hello All!

I have been a longtime lurker on these boards, but finally decided to [wo]man-up and say Hello!

My family is so excited to go on this cruise. We told our kids that they had to earn their way onto this trip, and they did - thank goodness!

We are traveling from Kentucky: myself and my husband, DD (8) and DS (6). My parents, my brother and his girlfriend are also onboard. We will be celebrating my mother's 60th birthday!!

The majority of us have been on a cruise before, but never a Disney cruise. We are very excited!

Welcome aboard!!

Welcome snowite16! It will be nice to have another Kentucky family on board.
My daughter is 8 also and is very excited. Maybe they can get together in the kid's club.
