DCL recommends not booking a flight before 12 noon. At least thats the time that was stated when we flew back in 2006. In any case, you are definately fine with that.

What web site are you all using to find your flights? Are you looking directly at the airline websites or using a search engine like travelocity ect....? I would like to get an estimate on this falls dates, as a ball park figure to work with for next fall (2011) as we'll Have to fly then.

I've been checking JetBlue's site every day for MONTHS waiting for them to open up flights. I prefer JetBlue because of the number of direct flights to and from Boston (and the TVs ;) ).

I'm going to talk to DH tonight and book it!

I do both. I look at Expedia or Kayak to see what they have. And then I will double check it directly with the airlines website. They usually end up being the same and if they are, I usually prefer to book directly with the airline.

For these, I checked Kayak then double checked with JetBlue and Delta and then decided to book directly with JetBlue.

I was searching to see if there is anything special planned for Halloween in Key West and came across this on the fantasy fest (.net) website:

Sunday, October 31
CHILDREN'S DAY
A family event featuring food, games, arts and crafts and a costume contest for children. Bayview Park at Truman Ave. and Eisenhower Dr.; 305-292-8912

We're 3 adults so it's not for us but if anyone else is looking for something to do with the kiddos, you might want to look into this.

There's also a brunch at the Hyatt but since we dock around 12:30pm, that's pretty much out of the question.

It looks like the crazy parties and parades are the day (and week) before we arrive.

Since JetBlue released their dates through January, I booked our November 6th return airfare today.

We are taking a later flight home than I would like, but the early ones were just way too early (8:00 a.m, etc.). Also, I'm paying about $140.00 more total to go home than I did for our October 28th arriving flight. I suppose that is to be expected though, since Saturday and Sunday flights are always usually more money. Perhaps I will look into that Hyatt day pass thing to give us something to do while we are waiting.

Still, total roundtrip airfare for all four of us from NY to Orlando is still under a $1,000 at $936. I think I can live with it. And I'm happy to have one other piece of the plans in place! :yay:

I could have booked Delta tickets for less, but considering the first checked bag fee that they have, that JetBlue does not have, we would have ended up spending the same amount of money.

whats the hyatt day pass thing? our flight out is not till 7 p.m. so i'd be interested.

I've heard people talk about it on the boards, though I have never looked into it myself. You can book a room at the Hyatt MCO for the day, with check in at or around 12:00 pm and check out at 6:00 pm. For a reduced day rate, you get a room and use of their facilities (including the pool, I believe). They call it a Day Rate room.

Hyatt MCO mentions it on their website, but you have to call them up for the rate, it does not appear online. I saw a couple of reviews on Tripadvisor about it and on Cruise Critic.

Thanks for mentioning it, I will definately check out the site. We were wondering if it would be ok to bring the kids off the ship in Key West on Halloween. :)

I thought the fares were soooo high out of Newark! We finally booked a JetBlue flight out of Newburgh, NY for $767 for the three of us... Since we live in Northern NJ it is not too bad of a ride.....:)

It looks like I am really going to go on this cruise! Cruise documents arrived at TA's office today for this cruise and the Alaskan in July 2011. Can't wait to get them.

Hi, We're thinking about going ahead and purchasing for 2011 (New Year on the Dream) because the price and the room location look good. But what happens if we get on the ship this October and find that we could have gotten a better rate on board for the future cruise? Will they let us transfer that reservation to get the lower price or are we stuck with the higher price? What would you do? Help!!!

We are booked on this cruise also. It looks to be a perfect cruise: 1. The Dream; 2. The last 5 night of 2011; and 3. New Years celebration. I'd book it and see what happens when you get onboard as to pricing. That is one thing that I really like about Disney is their cancellation/transfer policy.

So I have a question for those of you that have taken a two week vacation. Is it there a downside to one? I ask cause it looks like we can do this. Our current plan, providing $$ are available by then is leaving STL on Sunday prior to the cruise and then coming back after the cruise. So 14 days. Thoughts?

We took a 3 week vacation in December 2009 and still ran out of time! We are hoping to add 6 days onto this trip, but it will depend on daughter's schedule: her first year of high school and all. We can always fly her back though:idea:

....I have decided to have a few pints across the pond next month - in Ireland:goodvibes.
So - with great sadness I have 2 say that I have canceled my trip with all of you.
Take plenty of pics for me and have fun but again I have decided to head off to Ireland enstead.
....just ordered my Rick Steve's Guide to Ireland and lookin forward to it.

Aww, how fun. That sounds like a fun trip and I am jealous. We'd love to spend some time in Ireland, tracing my husbands family. I don't think there are any of them left over there. The closest we've been has been in Epcot Center.

We are booked for this cruise, also. Our family is from Kentucky and we are looking forward to spending Halloween with all of you. My daughter is 8 and my son will be 4. This is our 2nd Disney cruise, but our first on the Magic.

Welcome aboard! This is a fun group with lots of activities planned. I think someone already mentioned the first post of this thread will get you all the info on what is happening. It's gonna be a blast!

Just had to state here:
:dance3:I LOVE FACEBOOK!!:dance3:

I have Family, brothers specifically and a sister I've never met (Family Divorce custoday battles, remarrying, ect...) I haven't heard from my older brother in 17 years, and it had been 12 years between when I last heard/saw him before that). Well through facebook, I just had the greatest conversation with my long lost brother, I have neices, nephews and a SISTER!!!! They and my other older brother live in various other provinces here, so not sure if we'll ever meet again in person, BUT We have COMMUNICATION!
Did I say I LOVE Facebook? :hippie:

I love Facebook too! It is great for finding long lost friends and family. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to look it up.

I've been pretty busy lately doing a lot of nothing really. Each day just flys by. Working on my FE gifts, getting pins together for trading. Oh, and I'm going to WDW the 30th of this month to take care of some stuff at the house. My second oldest daughter is going with me and we will be able to do 4 days in WDW, after we do the work on the house! Or not!:lmao:

DS12 TODAY, gets his braces, in an hour from now actually. I was just thinking about how different he's going to look in photos ect.... Last night we took some before photos, frontal and side profile. I'm going to do up two scrap book pages detailing this whole event starting from having to have 4 teeth pulled in preperation for the braces ect.... He's actually quite excited (wonder how long that will last, :rotfl: )

And now for your "Embarrassing Parent Moment Of The Day". How many of you have watched "Friends" either in the past, or all the re-runs currently?
I've always liked that show and had no issues with my kids watching it a their current ages.
However yesterday evening, I was here on my computer checking over the boards, and DS6 was watching TV. Friends came on. It was the show where Rachel Gives birth to her Baby Girl. I'm sitting here oblivious to preicisely what was going on, till I heard noises that caught my attention. I turn and look and there is Rachel, on her back in the hospital bed, knees drawn up, and she's "Pushing". The doctor and Nurse are at the end of the bed encouraging her to PUSH.
Instantly I thought this a LITTLE too graphic for my DS6, so I grabbed the Channel changer and switched it to a kids channel, and said "I know there's something better on tv for you". Very Casually, DS6 looks up at me and very seriously says "So where exactly does the baby come out of the mommy?"

Yeah, I know he's old enough to understand now and all, I was just REALLY caught off Guard. I had a good laugh, and then DH yelled that Dinner was ready, which saved me from explaining right there. DS hasn't yet brought it up again. :) YET.

Last night, DS (4) told me he wanted to go to Disney World. I told him in October, we would go. I thought that was the end of it, but this morning he told me he wants to go on vacation (or "bacation") tomorrow. I told him not until October and he looked very sad indeed.

I swear, he was so cute (and if I had the funds), I would try in squeeze in a trip just because of his cute little face! To him, October may as well be 5 years from now. I kind of feels like that to me too sometimes. I just have to keep telling myself, "Just 6 more months!"

We've caught the DCL bug (even though we've yet to go on one!) and decided to put our names down on yet another cruise. We're booked on the Dream NYE cruise in 2011 and even managed to convince my mom to fly in from Denver and join us. She is staying on the same deck 10 as us, but in a visual porthole room. The twins will love going to visit her! I decided to plunk the deposits down now as the prices will surely keep rising based on how much the end of the year holiday cruises are going for this year. Yikes, even though some of those cruises are longer the prices are way too pricey for our budget. Based on everyone's advice (thank you, thank you!) we'll do a comparison on board this October to see if we can either get a better price with a discount and OBC and do a re-juggling cancellation/transfer of our booking or breathe a sigh of relief if the prices did escalate.

The cruise should be fun -- we will be celebrating our 23rd anniversary the first night (12/29) and we will finally be at a venue on New Year's Eve where we don't fall asleep before the clock strikes 12! :wizard:

Beth

And Linda: it will be fun meeting your family this October and then seeing you all again at the end of the following year! :)

Since I have all my younger kids summer clothes in the drawers now, DS6 found his "Cruising The Wonder With Mickey" Shirt that I made him for our Cruise last fall. He wore that to school today. He told his teacher ALL about the Shirt and that we went on that Ship on the shirt too! He did say to me today too "When can we go again?" I just told him "All in good time, all in good time". Still haven't told them about Our Magic Halloween Cruise!

JKSWonder, those little faces sure pull at our heartstrings, don't they?

Tinkerbelltwins, I did the same, booked the Dream, but for Sept 2011. I actually got the paperwork in the mail today for the booking I made to surprise my mom and her BF (well he KNOWS about it, but dosen't know I'm paying for all of it for him as well). Prices are sure to go up, and I felt it could happen before our Magic Cruise this fall, so yes, better to not wait. I will check while on board and if the prices are the same, I'll rebook, then have our TA transfer the funds all ready paid, to the new booking. But at least I know we are locked in at the current price. And for you, New Years and an Anniversary on Board! Awesome!

Have you thought about letting him have a wall calendar (our sin calls it a map. X marks the spot lol)to X off till the trip. We did this for my DS6. The funny thing is he thinks its only for the cruise. Little does he know we are leaving a week early.

(our sin calls it a map. X marks the spot lol)QUOTE]

I wonder if this is a typo? :rolleyes1 Couldn't resist.

I like the calendar idea also. While it will seem like a long while away, perhaps you can put Disney themed days once a month or so like a Disney movie day, mom/dad read a Disney book day, Disney Puzzle day. That way there are mini goals along the way.

There use to be someone up here on the Disboards who would send postcards to families upon request. I did it for our girls in 2009, gave a donation to hime via paypal to keep the cause going. That's another fun thing for the kids.

**FE Update**

We have another family in our FE Group! The are on the most recent master list that has been emaileed out, but just added them to the FE thread on post #1420.

Dis name: Jmedina
Jose Medina, wife Alejandra, dd Maria (9), dd Ana (7) they have late dining

Also, JKSWonder's seating has changed to main dining

Thanks!

I did some FE shopping last night! Between that trip and the order I've made from Oriental trading, I think I now have all the kids and teens covered! I know what I want to do for the Adults but now I just have to figure out how to do/make them.

Yesterday, I was at our local Dollarama store (they have TONS of Disney items in now!!) and I saw something that SURPRISED me and made me think of our Cruise last fall. In our FE gifts from last fall, the kids were given glow sticks in the shapes of swords! I had NEVER seen glow sticks like that before, nor had my kids, so we all thought they were awesome! Well our Dollarama has tons of them! Not only swords, but Magic wands and Tirtons Trident! I think I'll have to make a trip back to pick up some (if not all) of those too! EXCEPT, they were two dollars a piece, which seemed a bit much for the dollar store. If any of you know what glow sticks I'm talking about, do you know how much they are in your stores? If I can compare, then I'll know if this is a good deal or not.

. . .even managed to convince my mom to fly in from Denver and join us...

I'll be flying into Denver in about 2 weeks! I'm going to visit my friend that lives in Fort Collins! Hopefully she will be joining us on this cruise!

Yay! And I am just loving that there are so many girls on board that are or are near my daughter's age!

I have all my FE stuff, but my item for the adults needs to be "customized". I went to the craft store and got everything I needed to do that, so now I just have to sit down and do it!

We do have a Disney countdown calendar that I made (Mickey head paint chips with numbers on them attached to a white foam Calendar Board) I usually put it up about 3 weeks before our trip, but I am thinking I may have to bring it out earlier and re-configure it so that it can be a 6 month calendar instead. I see another trip to Home Depot in my future for Mickey head paint chips!
