Oct 2021=bad idea?

Although mid-September is the peak of hurricane season, October has seen some major hurricanes in Florida.

I would just be prepared, as best you can be, should one strike while traveling. Of course, WDW has a tremendous infrastructure to handle a hurricane should one hit.

I think that there will be almost 0 restrictions by October. Multiple public officials are stating that vaccines will be offered to all Americans by April/May. All 16+ that want it will have it by middle summer.

There is also the expectation that early teens will have a vaccine approved in summer and elementary aged kids by the fall.

Cases are dropping like a rock. The vaccines are still very effective with the variants. Cases should continue to drop as more people are vaccinated.

I expect the parks to be at a 7/10 crowd level (in a non 2020 year). Mainly a little light because of the dampened 50th celebrations and economic struggles of many Americans.

I soooo hope you're right on the restrictions and crowd level but based on what I've heard from everyone else it doesn't seem likely. We're going the second week of October. I've been holding off on buying nice looking masks (never thought I'd say that!) until we are closer to leaving. I keep hoping that mask restrictions will go away but I know that's extremely unlikely. At this point, I'm just hoping for more night time events, shows, and restaurants to be open. Maybe even MNSSHP? Please!!!

There's not going to be anything special happening for the 50th, don't go for that reason.
Can you tell me where you found this infomation so I can share with DH as we have a trip planned in late October for Wine and Food Party of the Senses. I say why go if there is nothing special going on? If I knew where this info was I could share with him straight from Disney's mouth.

Yes, so you think the crowds will be better by oct 7?

Nope, the milestone anniversaries tend to up attendance, especially if they do typical promos to drag it out for nearly a full year.

FOMO is a powerful motivator.

Will say, have been in MK for many of the past big dates. Mostly, great options for pin sets & collectibles. Buttons & special park maps, different treats. Fun, crowded & usually hot & sticky...I love October in MCO :p

I don't think you'll find anything like celebrations of the past. Most of the coutnry still won't be vaccinated the rate we're going and Disney is using COVID as a means of scaling back many things we've become accustomed to. Welcome to a whole new very cheapened unmagical experience.
Think regional carnival but a lot more $$.

HAHAHA
I live in a State where they still haven't finished the over 75s. But those that are comatose/end stage life or in prison are almost done. Doubting they will be heading to WDW soon.
We have no plan for the rest of the population - it's a all a big political vote grab. Vaccines go to waste everyday while they duke it out. Teachers (decent voting bloc) may be next and seeing as they have stated they still won't go back to the classroom - you could see some travelers there.

You must be in Massachusetts with me! My mother is 63 and an assistant principal and we’re anxiously waiting. I am 33 and eligible in phase 2 down the road due to my work but ugh! we live in southeastern MA and there hasn’t been many doses around for our region. When clinics open up they fill up in minutes.

But back to OPs original question I think it’s sooo tough to say! I think there will be crowds, but if there are still social distancing protocols it looks like there will be very long lines everywhere you walk. I’m seeing some photos of this past President’s Day weekend and it doesn’t look fun to me! We went in November and the lines were a bummer IMO. I just wanted to browse stores on Main Street in MK and had to walk all the way to the beginning of Main St and wait in a long line since only one entrance is open for all the stores.

By the end of May, Pfizer and Moderna will have delivered enough vaccine for 200million Americans to be fully vaccinated. By the end of May, Johnson and Johnson will have delivered enough vaccine for 100 million Americans to be fully vaccinated. Those are manufacturing updates given directly from the Pfizer/Moderna/J&J in the last 7 days.

That's enough for the entire eligible population. And ~20% won't take it so I think the May timeframe isn't that far off.

RI - and MA is way ahead of us!

RI is scheduled to be done with the over 75s at the end of April. They have no plans for May as of today. They are floating teachers - have them done in time to enjoy their summer vacations and vote 'right' ;-)

They can't share where they got that information because nothing has been announced yet. The PP is guessing, just like I'm guessing something will be going on for the 50th. One of us will be right, but nobody will know for certain until there's an official announcement.

Well, we'll happily be there on 10/1, but we also have a December trip planned…hopefully not as busy then.

Same. We will be there 10/1 and also second week of December.

I am expecting MK to be a complete madhouse on 10/1 but we need to know that going in.

How funny! We'll be there 12/8-12/15 :-)

I know 10/1 will be CRAZY but I'm here for it. I have been dreaming of this for a long time and won't let a "little" crowd spoil my fun. I'm very thankful the GF walkway opened as I'm sure we'll be taking the walk from The Poly. And we're also going in August so this trip is not as much about the normal attractions as much as just being there for this.

Yeah if you are going to be at MK 10/1 you have to really WANT to be there.

Maybe.. just maybe Since it's so long of an event people won't rush to do it? A girl can dream haha

It's an event in the same way the DL diamond celebration was an event. Meaning that if it's just spruced up castles and projections and lots (and lots) of merch available for 18 months, there will be no reason to go to "do it" other than the people who just have to be there on Oct 1 (I'm still trying to figure out if I want to be one of those people haha)
