Yippeee ME!!! Mammogram was ok. I have a slight change in a calcification but on further review it is ok. They will double chek again in 6 months. Thanks, Sandy, for updating everyone!!!

Yes, Denine, it is snowing again in Charlotte. We have a couple of inches on the ground but it didn't start accumulating until late this afternoon even though it started late morning. Some areas may get 5 inches. Hopefully not us. Remember guys, 2 inches is a big snowstor for us!!!

Glad Tyler is better and off the oxygen.:woohoo:

Sounds like Kaleigh is getting a lot of hands on experience. I am glad she is having a great time, as well as Denine and Jerry.

Gotta run. Chat tomorrow hopefully.

:grouphug:

Denine, once again, throughly enjoyed reading about your day. I would love to have seen the cocoa bean turned into chocolate. I don't like chocolate and cinnamon together either. Yucky!

Susan, I'm sure you had a big sigh of relief. I heard about your storm. Wow, you guys are really getting hit. We have had it soooo easy this year. BUT, March is our snowiest month and when we get the biggies. The norm with El Nino is big huge storms in March. We shall see!

Sandy: I don't like cinnamon and chocolate either, but it was so faint that it tasted OK. Just different from our hot cocoa.

Snowing here.

Gotta get off the computer. Kaleigh needs to go to bed. Sometimes I hate having 1 room for everyone. At least I get to read in bed for a while.

Denine - Very interesting to read your posts about your experience. Sounds like so much fun. Do they do stuff like that all the time there or only for the homeschoolers? Sounds like a fun trip we may have to do for a few days.

Susan - I want your snow!! Did they close schools out there because of the snow?

Mom - glad Tyler had a good day yesterday. He has had a rough couple of weeks.

Hi Barb, Julie and Sally!

Hey Heidi, I think that I will be home tomorrow night and drive down Friday morning. Do you want a Survivor night?

Mom - Yes, I am up for a Survivor night tomorrow if you are home!

I hope and pray that I learned a lesson today......do not put off bank statements until you have 14 :eek:to do in one day. Can you say stupid?? BUT, I'm all caught up! :cool1::banana::woohoo::cheer2:

I am here for my daily update. Glad you are enjoying them.

We woke up to slushy snow on the ground. There was very little, but it was so funny because there were school cancelleations and businesses starting 2 hours late. To us this would have been nothing. Heck, Friday, during a snow storm that dropped at least a foot of snow on our yard, there were people at the library!

Today was Jamesrtown. The year, 1607. The first settlers have arrived in America for the purpose of getting money. Kaleigh had a classroom class this morning for an hour. She learned all about the Powatan Indians. She learned how they lived, how they ate. It was fascinating to learn about how they made everything. They used a tendon from a deer leg (sinew) smashed down and dried for thread and fishing line and binding other things together. They used the bone for tools of all sorts like sewing needles, awls, and fishing hooks. They used the hoofs, boiled down, for glue. And that was just the leg! The really cool thing was that the teacher had all sorts of stuff for the kids to touch. She had a deer leg and sewing needles and furs of all sorts for the kids to hold. I had to give the lady credit for trying to keep a dozen pre-K to 2nd graders focused.
After the class, we looked around the museum and saw the movie about Jamestown. Then we stopped for a break before going out into the drizzly cold for our 2 hour tour.
We got to see a Powatan Indian Village. We learned how they cooked and how they tanned the hides of deer for clothing. The kids all got to take a turn with an oyster shell removing a bit of fur from the hide. The hides are tanned with the brains from the deer. They are soaked in water and the chopped up brains and then the mixture is worked into the hide to make it soft and then smoked to get rid of the smell and to give the hide a pretty color. Then thay are made into whay little clothing they wore. They wasted nothing!
From the Indian village, we went to see replicas of 2 ships that brought people here to Jamestown. Unfortunately, the 2 larger ships were off for repairs. But, we went on the 1 ship. It was quite small and 21 men would have sailed on it. It was very chilly here by the James River!
Then we went on to the Fort. This is where then Englishmen settled. They had several buildings set up for viewing. They are currently builing a new one based on excavations they have found on Jamestown Island. They didn't know this building existed since it wasn't in any writings. The Jamestown settlement is a recreation of the original settlement. They are doing archeological digs on the original site. They didn't want to compromise anything, so they built the museum a short bit away. You can see the island from where the ships are located.
By the end of the tour we were frozen! So, it was time to call it a day and head back to the hotel. We then went to Olive Garden for dinner and back here to give Kaleigh a bath and for me to shower.

Heidi: I don't know what they have the rest of the year for educational purposes. I do know that all places have tours you can take. The map says the Powell House is open seasonally. Right now it is only open for the homeschool kids.

Today was another day of pretty much just home schoolers. Some we had seen at Williamsburg earlier inthe week and others we saw in the classes. There was a school group from one of the local schools, but other than that, who else would come out on such a cold, crummy day, but people that had tickets for stuff on certain days?

Tomorrow is back to the Powell House in the morning for lessons in the kitchen.

Denine, it sounds like you had another wonderful day. Kaleigh and you guys are very fortunate!

I'm sitting here doing NOTHING. Ted is off to Hooters and I am just wasting time until American Idol. Made myself an egg sandwich for dinner. I was going to go somewhere for fast food but for some reason my tummy was upset so I stayed home. Milk was sounding good.

Denine - I would love to go check out Jamestown Island, do they even let anyone on the island? Bummer about the weather being so cold, but it seems like it isn't slowing you down. Everything sounds so interesting.

Mom - I hope you feel better. If I was home I would have come and hung out with you. Taura and I did Zumba last night with a different teacher, definitely not as fun. The teacher makes the class!

Why is it that I am CRAVING hamburgers? I tell you, ever since Undercover Boss this past Sunday, I have wanted a hamburger. I giving in and going to Fudruckers after therapy.

Heidi, just so you know, our satellite receiver is being stubborn. We can't record two shows without it freezing. So rather than risk the TV freezing and missing some of American Idol and Survivor, I have chosen to watch Survivor in the living room and record American Idol in the bedroom. LYMI

Barb, Julie, where are you????

Hi Sally. Hugs.

Sandy: We are fortunate to be able to do these things. We do our best to save in other areas, so we can do this.

Here is my daily update:
We were back in Williamsburg at the Powell House this morning. Today we were in the kitchen learning about pickling and preserving. Kaleigh helped peel a carrot that was going to be pickled. Plus we saw green beans preserved in salt and meat hanging from the ceiling drying.
We did get to see the court trial today. It was just a sample of everyday court hearings of the day. Someone was charged with not going to Bruton Parish Church for a month, another had a complaint because someone owed him money and a third was a tavern owner with a complaint about a customer. It was interesting.
We also went to see the furniture maker, joiner (makes windows, doors and simple furniture) and we went back to the silversmith and milliner. Kaleigh wanted to go back to the Palace gardens to go in the maze again and we found ourselves back at the Palace kitchen. They were roasting meat today. I can't identify with palace life, but I can identify with cooking. I find it fascinating to see what they cooked and how they cooked it.
It was beautiful today with sun and upper 40's to low 50's. We left the historic area and went back to the visitor center to watch "Making of a Patriot" again. We thought it would reinforce what Kaleigh learned this week if we watched it again. Then we went to the bookstore. I found a great video of science in the 18th century on sale for $4.99. It was $20. They were clearing them out since they were VHS. I also found a neat book containing letters from women from the Revoltuionary War to the present. It was on clearance for $7.98, originally $40. I also found a book on 18th century medicine. It wasn't on clearance, but still under $7. Then we got 15% off of everything since we were here for Homeschool days.
We were sitting enjoying a cookie when a girl that Kaleig made friends with this week showed up. So, we let them look around in the gift shop together. Her name is Halley (sp), she has red hair, is home schooled. She is 9 and from South Carolina. Her mom is also a nurse. We enjoyed talking with one another all week and the girls enjoyed being together.

Heidi: You can still go to Jamestown Island where they are doing the excavatiing, but it is a separate fee from Jamestown Settlement. It is owned by the Federal Park System and the settlement is not.

We are doing laundry and starting to pack.

We are going downstairs for dinner at the hotel reception.

Tomorrow is Yorktown and then on to John and Judy's in Richmond.

TGIF!!!!! My mom is watching Joey and Tyler today and I will be watching them tomorrow. My luck they will probably be grumpy for me because they just want their mom and dad since they have had different people watching them since Thursday. Stacey and Rich are at an RV show up in Denver trying to sell some memberships to their campground.

Denine - How long are you staying with your friends?

I see Heidi told you about my day today. I think the other Grandma had them yesterday. I hope I can keep them happy like she does! Not sure what time I will be home tonight. Stacey hasn't given me any time frame. Makes it hard for planning dinner for Ted!

Had a great night last night, Heidi!
