Oct 1, 2005 Missing

So I am on the October 15th cruise. Does that mean I will have a nice clean and shiney ship?

I live in Virginia. I wonder if they'd just let us catch the ship in VA and ride down? *laugh* Okay, not really. :)

Have they changed the plan? Thought the Magic was in dry dock 2000 then again last year.(Will have to check photos). Thought it was every 3 years?Maybe it needs further refurbishment, and they didnt have time last year to finish off all the work.Nat:Pinkbounc

The Magic will be in drydock for refurbishment. Each of the Disney ships goes into drydock every other fall. The last time the Magic went into drydock was last fall. It will be due again in fall of 2005. The first two sailings of the Magic in October 2005 will be canceled and passengers will be rebooked on other sailings. DCL will be contacting everyone next week.
I doubt that only because they absolutely positively have to know when their drydocks are going to be before they post schedules. For instance, they have two weeks in October blacked out for the Wonder this year -- they never had those dates available for booking.

papacruise - Did you get your information from a particular DCL source?

I agree with you, Nat. Magic's last drydocks were 2000 and 2003. ::yes::

My response from DCL when I called was the same as the others. She acted as if it were completely normal for this cruise to be booked a year in advance. The only thing she did was reconfirm my reservation for the October 1, 2005 sailing and basically had nothing more to say. I still was not convinced when I hung up and after reading these posts I'm really getting concerned since it took a lot of convincing my husband to allow the girls to miss school and the fact that I purposely chose the lowest priced October cruise. If they cancel or boot us off for another reason, they would'nt expect me to pay the difference to change to another date in October would they?

Thanks for the update, jjpounds.
I dont know how they would handle it. I would hope they would work with those of us who have it booked already. Maybe someone who was booked on the October 04 cruise that got cancelled might have some info.
I know how you feel about the school issue. We chose 10/8 because the kids would only miss 4 days of school. Now my biggest complaint is if it does happen we may decide to do a summer California cruise, however if I had known I didnt have the Oct cruise I would have booked the summer cruise last week before the prices skyrocketed.

I know I tried to book the Mariner of the Seas for Oct 30 and it is completely booked so I guess it is possible that they are full. Maybe Fl has some type of school break at that time. Good luck with whatever happens.Let us know when you hear something.
OOPS I just realized that it is for 2005 I was talking about October for this year being sold ut. I guess it is dry dock after all.

The Magic will be in dry dock. Each of the Disney ships goes into dry dock every other year. This year's dry dock for the Wonder was originally scheduled for the weeks of September 12 and 19. In late April/early May of last year, the dates were changed to the weeks of October 3 and 10. Thus, the move affected four weeks worth of sailings, two they had to move people off of and two that opened late.

Anyone booked on any of the displaced sailings was offered the opportunity to switch to ANY non-holiday sailing at the same rate at which they were originally booked. What would you say to THAT deal! Hopefully they'll do it again, although with the popularity of the California sailings, I would expect them to exclude those as well.

And why are they just now announcing next year's dry dock? Two possibilities come to mind. 1) Were they considering eliminating the dry dock altogether as another of the cost cutting measures we have recently seen at DCL? 2) Did they think that rather than affecting four weeks of sailings as happened last year, they would delay an announcement until dates were firm, thereby affecting only two, rather than four weeks of sailings?

Whatever DCL was thinking, it's dry dock (and not a charter) that is causing these dates to be closed to booking. Those who are booked on these dates will be receiving calls beginning next week.

Very interesting papacruise. Hmmm, I wonder, who are you and where do you get your info?

Maritime law requires the drydock. As much as cost cutting might be at play, I doubt they can cut THAT :)

you can check the allseastravel.com web site and click on the 10/01/05 and 10/08/05 dates and it comes up that the magic will be in dry dock, hope this helped

Im glad all seas knows this and DCL couldnt tell us.

Unfortuantely, that week and the summer are the only times I could so, so if we do get that "deal" papacruise mentioned, we are out of luck. :( Im so bummed!

Melody,

Maybe he works for the Disney CIA!!!
:cool2:

I thought waiting a year and a half for the cruise was going to be hard but waiting to find out 'our fate' is going to be the hardest part!

Depending on how it is handled for those of us who already booked, I feel like I am either going to be really lucky or really unlucky! :scratchin

While onboard the Magic last week we tried to book a Western in early October. The rebook lady said, Ok, 10/8/05 is a western....then she paused and said "oh, no, that one has been chartered by a company, we aren't taking reservations for that one." so we picked the 10/22 Western although we'd have preferred earlier in October.

Don't know what this means for ppl who already have confirmations.

Personally, I think that DCL should ONLY charter those cruises that have not been made available to the public yet.
