Ocean Temperature at Vero?

What is the ocean temperature like this time of year at Vero? Is it way too cold for swimming?

I couldn't find actual temps for you. However, Vero is the start of the "tropics" and has the Gulf Stream right offshore. This helps keep the ocean temp pretty constant all year. Of course, the air temp makes a big difference in how much you'll enjoy a dip in the ocean.

It's a report buoy off the coast of Cocoa Beach(a bit north of Vero) but it has historical data and such.

i thought i read that we couldnt swim in the ocean at vero. is this just at certain times of the year?

My husband has gone in the ocean every time we have been at Vero (4). In fact, it's hard to get him out of the ocean-he's like a little kid. We've never encountered a problem-I heard that there was "red tide" at VB recently but we have never seen it-I know it occurs naturally and not just at VB.

Our kids went in the ocean, too. DH goes in a little bit further than they do. When we were there in October there were Marlin jumping straight up out of the water every day that we were there. It was really great to watch.

Anyway, you can go in the ocean at VB-it's one of the best things to do. We love it.

While I'm sure this sort of thing is great to watch, do take a little care if you're swimming and there is this sort of activity, particularly if it's smaller "bait fish" . It generally means that there is something bigger and hungrier chasing them

Water temp was 75 yesterday.Red Tide was also posted on the sign.It has been a problem in Brevard County for the last month but nonexist until lately south of Sebastian Inlet.(It feels like a bad case of hayfever and causes fish kills)but I didn't notice any signs/effects of it around the resort area on the beach. Stopping by this afternoon for the annual meeting.They rebuilt a portion of the beach access ramp but it is still closed.The sea has been pretty rough (don't know why they decided to rebuild part of it now when it will probably be gone again before the end of the winter season)We're supposed to get drenched and a small craft advisory is out. Its amazing what the sea drags in.About a mile and a half down from the resort is a beautiful piece of driftwood.It is a huge tree est. 75ft. long. Freshly beached from Sundays storm.

I know I feel bad for not mentioning to use caution when there are fish jumping.

We did look for bait fish, etc. because we had heard that several people from Britian had spotted a shark the day before. We couldn't confirm this though. Sometimes people see a Marlin or something and from afar it looks like a shark. I am very careful about never letting my kids or DH too far out in the water and we never swim and sundown or sunset and we don't wear a lot of jewelry, etc when we swim.

Thanks for thinking of everyone-I'm sure some people don't even think about it.

Also, for anyone who is planning a trip to VB-If you are on the beach early in the morning or near sunset wear OFF-the "no see ums" were really bad when we were there in October.
