HELP! I'm REALLY hoping to find an ocean front hotel/motel room for one (or two) nights in August (and preferably not spend my whole hotel budget on this stay.) Of course The Del is out of the question!! It looks gorgeous but out of my "KD budget" (haha) I've looked at the Dana and Best Western by the Sea. I've also seen something about La Jolla being one of the best beaches for families.

I've even gone to the google street views and clicked my way up and down streets to try and find something!

Any thoughts?? I'd love to be able to do the day at the zoo, go back to our hotel for a rest and whenever my kids decide just walk out of our room and to the beach to look for shells.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? (I told hubby if anyone could help it'd be the DIS-ers.)

Thanks

And not to be too picky but free parking and a bite to eat would be a BONUS!

Well, nobody has answered yet, so I'll get you started. I've stayed at the La Jolla Shores Hotel for business. I thought it was kinda tattered and slightly moldy for the price ($$$), but lots of folks love it - it gets pretty good TripAdvisor reviews. Right on the beach, so it would be wonderful for the kids. No free breakfast or anything else, they charge for parking, though you can find free parking on the street in front.

Have you thought about Carlsbad? The Beach Terrace Inn is right on the beach, and the West Inn is right near the beach, but are a little cheaper. Both include breakfast. Be sure to go to each site for room discount offers. Cheaper than the Del, bit a little more than a typical motel, but both properties look great. West Inn will shuttle you to the beach with chairs and toys, and they have free cookies and milk every night. We ended up booking at the Beach Terrace for the "on the beach" experience.

Good luck! :goodvibes

I was about the suggest Carlsbad myself. DW and I went last year and stayed at the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort Inn. We loved our stay here and would love to go back. Parking is free. Another place we looked at was the Tamarack Beach Resort. It is right down the road from the Carlsbad Inn. Both we found to be fairly reasonably priced.
