Ocean City Maryland Hotel Help

I totally agree about the prices too. We are about 3 1/2 hours from O.C. and if we go it's usually only for the day or if we can 'borrow' someone's condo. DBF and I were trying to decide where to take our week's vacation this year and he said he really wanted to go to O.C in September (because we thought it would be a little cheaper.) Well, after making this comparison:

7 nights in OC = $1400
7 nights at POP in Disney w/ UPHs = $1054

There was no contest :) :) :) Now granted, once we add gas money and expenses it may come out to be slightly more, but come on....O.C. or Disney? I'll pay a 'little extra' any day :)

I agree. OC has become way too expensive. We still go though because it is only 2 hours from us and makes a nice vacation. I spent $250 per night this past June for the Holiday Inn and Suites. That was low season! High season in July and August is $350. I pay $225 to $350 for the Poly! We still go a couple weeks a year though. Luckily we only pay for the one week at the hotel. DH's boss leases a beachfront townhouse down there so we get that for a couple of weeks in the summer for FREE. Can't beat that but I still perfer the feel of a hotel any day.

I agree with the comments about the prices. I really would rather go to Myrtle Beach - I can get a much better place to stay for less, but it is a 6 hour drive and for this trip we really can't afford the time. It is costing more for OC than it did in July for us at the Poly.

I can't tell you why, can't put my finger on it, but I really *don't* like Myrtle Beach. I've been there 2 or 3 times. I just feel SOOO overwhelmed. And the hotels all look so nice in the brochure and they seem big but they are very tiny inside the room when you think you are getting a condo. It's just very different from OC. While OC is crowded, I still like that "honky tonk beach town" feel that it still seems to have.

I grew up going to OC every summer...it was awesome...

I've looked into going a few times but could never decide on where was decent to stay....so never went through with it....

We just came back a few weeks ago from the Holiday Inn and Suites on 17th Street and the boardwalk.

OK...I looked into the Holiday inn for next summer...$500 per night...OK...maybe WDW isn't such a bad deal...:sunny: :sunny:

Zurgswife, I agree that much per night is absurd. When we've done OC for a 'vacation' trip, we always rent a condo. Now, we typically stay waaaay up at 105th St or higher but still a 2br condo in July was $1500. I just can't see cramping up in a hotel room for a week in OC!! I'll do it in Disney since we're rarely in the room, but not in OC!

That isn't a hotel room though. It has a large bedroom, full kitchen, large living room, and a full bath with a rainfall shower and jacuzzi tub. A large balcony has a table and 4 chairs and there is also a large table and chairs in the living room along with two TVs and 4 phones! It also has a free washer and dryer on each floor and bell service to help with luggage. The price includes a great themed pool that has a lazy river, whirlpool, slides, huge hot tub, indoor pool, and adult pools. Kids also eat free. Believe me, this isn't your every day Holiday Inn.

Bingo! That's what I keep trying to tell all of my friends. I'll go for the day. I'll go for the night during the off season if I just want t alittle get away for DH & I. I have no interest in spending that much money during the summer. A friend of mine is there right now, staying at a place that offers "free Ice" as an ammenity! I expect more than "free ice" for that kind of money. :)

Oh my gosh! That is so funny. Who would think that 'free ice' was a good deal, or even considered to be an ammenity

Well, I'm renting my cousin's condo this year. He is not going through a realtor so he charges $1100 for a 2-bedroom condo. Sleeps about 8 I guess. It is not ocean front but ocean block. His sister also just bought a one-bedroom that has 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen, two balconies, etc. $900 per week. I don't think those prices are too bad at all. The only bad part is that I've got to clean it before I leave. I have always done this though and it isn't a big deal.

A few years before that, I rented an oceanfront townhouse on 36th street. It was $2000 per week and it EASILY fit two families with kids--there was about 4-5 bedrooms in it. I loved it. The owner of that place had hired a cleaning service to come in every week in between tenants. It was nice not to have to clean for a change but I felt that they didn't do as well as people who do it themselves. But probably no worse than a hotel.

If anyone is serious about going, the best way is to go "condo." It is much cheaper per night. If you go to a realtor your price will be about $200-300 more per week than the rates above, but you will usually get it cleaned.

You can also look through the Washington Post for owners who are renting. I've done this before and it has ALWAYS worked out and it is usually cheaper. Some owners will even rent mini-weeks if you don't want the full week.

it's more towards the Fenwick Island end of OC than the boardwalk side..it was ocean front..huge room with king bed, pull out sleeper couch, bathroom, and full kitchen..had a balcony overlooking the ocean..we went the last nite of Sept into the first week of Oct..booked it when we arrived and paid something like $85 a nite!..it wasn't the grandest hotel on the strip..but it was clean and we enjoyed it..there was a restaurant in the hotel as well as an indoor pool, hot tub, and ice skating rink!
