What's better- lg porthole room on 2nd level (only forward or aft available) or one of the obstructed view portholes on 5th level? It's only $70 more for 5th level. This would be on the Magic.

I don't think DCL has truly obstructed views (like on other cruiselines). Are you talking about the Navigator's verandah?

The rooms 5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522, 5524 & 6006 have obstructed portholes. Some of the porthole is covered (slightly by poles and barrels).

Ah, yes. Those were reclassified as Deluxe Inside rooms due to the obstructions. For me personally, I'd go with whatever category would put me closest to mid ship (be that deck 2 or 5).

Was on the Magic a couple weeks ago, and one of the good surprises for me was deck 2. We had a number of FE deliveries to do on deck two, and saw many doors open while the room stewards were working. It's really nice on deck two! Especially if you have a port excursion, it's super convenient.

They are sold as inside cabins even they are technically outside cabins with obstructed views out of the real portholes? If one is on a ship with those "magic" portholes, that might be an unpleasant surprise if one were planning to see some characters instead!

Do you mean like the virtual portholes on the Dream and Fantasy inside cabins? I don't believe they have the virtual portholes on the Magic/Wonder.

I've stayed in 5020 and 5520 on the Wonder (same secret porthole as on the Magic). I've not stayed on the deck 2 porthole rooms, but have heard great reviews of them. It's a toss-up. If you have kids, the clubs are on the same deck as 5, so very easy to get to. The deck 2 rooms are only one deck up when you get off the ship, so super easy. They're also one the same deck or one deck from the dining rooms.

We had a bad experience in our last secret porthole (they were doing maintenance work in the theater just below our room at all hours of the night and kept us awake), that pretty much turned me off of booking another secret porthole again, but that was just that time. It wasn't constant and I think it was isolated incident. However, I'm stubborn and I'd probably not book one again. Those who have stayed on deck 2 have had rave reviews!

You would know when you booked if your room has a virtual porthole or not. It wouldn't just say inside without saying it had a virtual porthole. As I think someone above said, there are no virtual porthole rooms on Magic anyhow as OP is asking.

We have stayed twice in room 5524 on the Wonder. We love the fact of looking out the window each morning. Plus it also has the split bath. Our next cruise is on the Magic and we requested the same room. It very convent to everything it's our favorite so far!
