Obsessive question about the room fax!

For a vacation beginning on July 9, would the best day to send my room fax be Saturday, July 5? I have heard that 5 days out is better--but that would put me on July 4! I can't imagine anybody would have time for a fax on July 4! Thanks for any advice!

Resorts don't close. I would fax it on the 4th.
