The following are some observations made during our recent trip to WDW and the BWV's. They are sprinkled with sarcasm, so read on at your own risk (and mine).

1. We always request a room at the end of the hall, far from the elevators at the BWV. This time we had 4129 and 4131 overlooking the tennis courts and pond. Great rooms with no problems. They provided us with quick access to the "quiet" pool, the bus stop and MGM. Once you learn to use the stairways, the end of the hallway rooms are the best IMHO.

2. Pool temperatures are still all over the place. We went to the "quiet" pool often (Congratulations to the CM who actually came out to tell two young boys to stop running around the outside of the pool. First time I ever saw this at the "quiet" pool). The pool water was cool every day. We went to the BCV to visit relatives and were able to swim at SAB one day and it had to be 10 degrees warmer. All I ask for is consistency (as long as it means warmer temperatures like SAB and not colder like it was at the BWV's).

3. The Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights was the most amazing ever this year. It was even better than the 3D lights of a few years ago. The music of the Trans Siberian Orchestra was a great addition to the lights and really got everyone into the whole experience.

4. The crowds were the most we have ever experienced. We have been at WDW for 4 of the past 5 Christmas/New Year's periods and this is the most people we have ever seen. It was manageable if you planned far ahead, had all of your reservations in order and left the parks in the middle of the day for a rest.

5. There was a rumor going around about WDW hotels soon beginning the practice of charging guests to park their car at the hotel. This is something I'm surprised that they haven't already started doing. Seems like a huge source of untapped revenue. No one I spoke to would say that this is going to happen but no one would say absolutely no either. The rumor was among guests, not CM's.

6. As I've gotten older, Tonga Toast doesn't taste (or even look) as good as it did years ago but Kona Coffee tastes better.

7. The Candlelight Processional is as good as ever. I'm still amazed that Disney hasn't found a way to ruin this somehow. We saw Gary Sinese and he was very good.

8. Word is that Tony Kornheiser (Monday Night Football, Washington Post, PTI) was staying and sighted a couple of times at the Beach Club. A frequent lurker to this sight spotted him twice. I guess he must have received a pretty good employee discount.

9. We placed a bag of trash in the hallway. Yes we did and believe it or not, they told us too. We called to ask where the room was to drop it off (We have never had to do this in all of our trips to the BWV). Housekeeping told us to place it into the hall since we were were a long way from the garbage room. MY DW begged them for the location but they wouldn't give in and as a result we defiled the hallway.; Go ahead and vilify me now but they proimised that they would send someone right away to pick it up and it was gone within a 1/2 hour. (We made them promise to come right away).

10. We love the BWV's but they need another breakfast option similar to what the BCV did by adding the cafe to the gift shop. The line at the Boardwalk Bakery in the morning twisted around Crescent Lake. Okay, maybe not that far but it was long.

11. The Merry Member Mixer Sales Event on December 28 was interesting. It was a nice chance to buy lots of DVC things and get free cookies.

12. There are more and more "aisle holes" at WDW than ever before. "Aisle Holes" are people who stop in the middle of the theatre aisle to sit down even though they are told not to. I've started to enjoy either choosing aisles that "aisle holes" are sitting in and say excuse me as I step on all of their toes and bang into their kness as I go by them or try to sit myself and my fellow 6'4" son right in front of them. This is harder to accomplish but is more satisfying since it makes them move. Stepping on their toes, just makes an "aisle hole" angry (which can be fun too).

13. Who ever the genius was who decided to shut down Splash Mountain for maintenacne on January 2 should be forced to scrape gum off the underside of all of the tables at Pecos Bills. It was still as crowded as ever on January 2 and there were a lot of disappointed people. I know that it has to be done at some time but why not wait a few more days until the crowds lighten up?

14. Granny is as much of a gentleman in person as he is on the Dis-Boards. It was a pleasure meerting him and his family following the CP on 12/26. Meeting Granny was practically the highlight of my trip (or at least in the top 17);).

15. I was able to talk to another Diser, Cinderella Pug. (Who is really two people posting under one name). They are frequent lurkers here on the Dis Boards and are fellow owners at the BWV. They know more useless information about WDW than anyone I know. Useless information is a lot of fun though. They should really post more.

16. The Millenia Mall in Orlando is amazing. My 12 year old DD commented that it's like shopping in New York City but with all the stores under one roof. If you want high end stores and have a high credit limit, you've got to visit this mall.

17. The HBC Family is very thankful to have spent another holiday together at WDW with friends and family. It was truly a magical vaction and we are truly fortunate to for all that we have together.

Now it's 10 months until we renew the AP's.:(

My DH and I made a pit stop at the ESPN Club on the way back to BCV after a morning in MK. We were talking to a CM there who has worked at ESPN since it opened. He told us he's heard of a possible closing after the Superbowl. Seems like strange timing with ESPN the weekend coming up...

6. As I've gotten older, Tonga Toast doesn't taste (or even look) as good as it did years ago but Kona Coffee tastes better.

Great top 17! I loved 'em all, but #6 is near and dear to my heart. (especially since it's in the wee hours of the morning, and I'm drinking a cup of Kona coffee right now! - We bought a bag at the Kona Cafe while we were in WDW for Christmas!) :thumbsup2 Now you've got to get over to Boma and have a press pot of Kenyan coffee. That is even better!

Glad you had a nice trip! Thanks for posting! :goodvibes

I enjoyed your report!

DH and I have begun to share orders of Tonga Toast and fruit salad. I'm not as willing to give up the Tonga Toast as he is, and so, he shares as a favor.

Great observations about your recent trip. Since our trips overlapped, I can definitely see where you're coming from with many of the comments! ::yes::
3. The Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights was the most amazing ever this year. It was even better than the 3D lights of a few years ago. The music of the Trans Siberian Orchestra was a great addition to the lights and really got everyone into the whole experience.
This was our first year to see the lights, and DW and DDs were really impressed with the "dancing" lights and the "snowfall" being pumped out onto the streets. The night we went was perfect as it was cold and clear, and we enjoyed hot chocolate and the spectacle. Definitely brought the Christmas magic into play.
4. The crowds were the most we have ever experienced. We have been at WDW for 4 of the past 5 Christmas/New Year's periods and this is the most people we have ever seen. It was manageable if you planned far ahead, had all of your reservations in order and left the parks in the middle of the day for a rest.
You and others had warned me about Christmas week crowds, and I was still amazed at the crowds despite the spotty weather. I'm glad that it was even higher than before (reportedly a record week for WDW attendance) since I wouldn't have wanted to hear that this was a down year!

7. The Candlelight Processional is as good as ever. I'm still amazed that Disney hasn't found a way to ruin this somehow. We saw Gary Sinese and he was very good.
Since we attended the same show, I can only heartily second your comments. CP was another Christmas magic moment! :thumbsup2 (followed quickly by another fine moment when we met).
9. We placed a bag of trash in the hallway. Yes we did and believe it or not, they told us too. We called to ask where the room was to drop it off (We have never had to do this in all of our trips to the BWV). Housekeeping told us to place it into the hall since we were were a long way from the garbage room. (We made them promise to come right away).
We saw our first hallway trash bag at VWL this past trip. It too was quickly gone. We ended up making a few trips to the Guest Trash/Recycling room to empty our trash. But of course at VWL, you're never "a long way from the garbage room".

10. We love the BWV's but they need another breakfast option similar to what the BCV did by adding the cafe to the gift shop. The line at the Boardwalk Bakery in the morning twisted around Crescent Lake. Okay, maybe not that far but it was long.
I'll say it again. They need a Roaring Fork type counter service option at BWV or the Boardwalk. That and the occasional bus service hiccup are my only two real "complaints" about this wonderful resort.
Haven't ever heard that term before ;) but I agree. We ran into this at every 3D attraction we visited. I'm not as tall as you so I'll have to get one of those "Cat in the Hat" hats to wear as I plop in front of them!
14. Granny is as much of a gentleman in person as he is on the Dis-Boards. It was a pleasure meerting him and his family following the CP on 12/26. Meeting Granny was practically the highlight of my trip (or at least in the top 17);).
Quite mutual, my friend. Only regret was that we didn't have the chance to sit and chat for longer, preferably with a couple of adult beverages in hand.
Maybe they figured out that we do, in fact, bite.

Come on Cinderella Pug...get off the sidelines and into the game!!! :)
16. The Millenia Mall in Orlando is amazing. My 12 year old DD commented that it's like shopping in New York City but with all the stores under one roof. If you want high end stores and have a high credit limit, you've got to visit this mall.
Hey, we went there too! And it has a Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs and Brio restaurants which are all family favorites!

Great report, HBC! :thumbsup2

I totally agree with adding a quick meal place to BWV. My DH complains every morning when he has to get my choc croissant and the line is huge.

I love the aisle holes comment. It is so true!!

I have yet to meet a fellow diser - except for Beca who I talked to on the phone! I never seem to be there for any meets or spot anyone with lime green.

Thanks for this post - it's getting me really excited to go to BWV in a week and a half!!

How about we all clamor for a CS breakfast place, maybe using part of ESPN's place when it moves?:stir: :rolleyes1

I'm glad you had such a good trip and I enjoyed reading your report.

Is the feature pool at BWV closed?

Other than that great report and it is no surprise that Granny is a nice guy. One good thing came out of the pool hopping, we heard a first hand report that the water was nice. Always good to hear.

Great report! We were at BC in early December and spent more time over at BW. I have to agree with everyone about more food options there. We usually stay at Pop and treated ourselves last year to BWV 2-br. I loved the resort so much but honestly missed the food court at Pop! We have just purchased SSR, but look forward to staying at BWV again real soon!

I do the same thing, but I can't be bothered to say excuse me if they can't be bothered to move.

HBC- Loved the aisle holes! They were out in force Thanksgiving week too. My DH is 6'4" too and can look rather mean(ex-football player). I love when he does that to some loudly complaining wimpy guy! Shuts them up really quick.

Where is that mall? It sounds like my kind of place!

Where is the Millenia Mall?
Go east on I-4 just past the Florida Turnpike. The next exit get off and turn right. Can't remember the street name but just look it up in the phone book when you get there. Very nice mall! :)

Good idea. Has been on my mind for awhile....

Loved...loved ....loved your post HBC. Such wonderful sarcasm. Are you sure you're not Canadian? Upstate NY and Maine....hmmmm.

Nope it's open. Can't pool hop to BCV anyway. We were approved guests of two separate families who were staying at the BC.

Thanks for the great report, HBC! Entertaining!

Hey 3DK. I'm in your neck of the woods this weekend. Thanks for ordering the sunshine for me?

Where is the Millenia Mall?
Where is that mall? It sounds like my kind of place!

Follow Granny's directions. I feel a little like Maistre Gracey in his other post about cheating. We went there after being at the Hard Rock Hotel, so I wouldn't be the best one to give directions from WDW.

I do the same thing, but I can't be bothered to say excuse me if they can't be bothered to move.

But it is so much more fun to look at them and say "excuse me" over and over again as you step on their toes and bump their knees. Of course whether you say it or not depends upon which part of your body you turn toward their face as you go past.;) Which is a point of etiquette to consider. You can turn your "back side" toward them AND still step on their toes. But in that case there would be no need to say excuse me since you aren't looking the "aisle hole" in the face.

loved your post HBC. Such wonderful sarcasm. Are you sure you're not Canadian? Upstate NY and Maine....hmmmm.

Thank you. Subtle is so much more fun than overt. My mother's mother was French Canadian and I'm trying to get my place of work to purchase Canadian Pharmaceuticals so I guess that makes me a little bit Canadian.

HBC

OMG, I'm laughing at #12 because that is my DH! He does not like those stopping in the middle of the aisle people and does his best to annoy them as we pass.
