Howdy all, just back from a FREEZING day at MK, but wanted to check in with a brief review of our experience with Cypress Point Resort thus far...

We found it very easily...just three lights from I-4 and the entrance to DT. Check in was very quick and painless. We were given our first request which was a first floor, but not our second...a pool view. We are in building 7 (the pink one).

Room is clean....the walls are unevenly painted, though. Furniture is nice, and still new looking as the remodel was recent. No hairdryer, which struck me as odd. Also no pantry in the kitchen, nor any cupboards to store food....I've been squishing dishes and such in a couple so I can use the others. The dishwasher has a broken wheel on the bottom rack, but we're dealing with it *grin*. Will run out of the sample size toiletries and cleaners by mid-week.

We are in a 3 bedroom lockout. The lockout bedroom is WAY more nice than the master suite in the 2 bedroom. I HATE the toilet configuration, which I was aware of when we booked, and thought it would be no biggie. It is. I just realized how much I like my privacy, even from DH, after we've tucked in for the night. In the lockout bedroom, the toilet is at least concealed from mirrors and tucked away in a corner, although there is only one teenie-weenie closet. I mean wicked small (my IL's are with us and we gave them that room).

The second bedroom is small...the bed and trundle underneath are twins. We moved the oversized chair and put the trundle back where the old twin bed must've been.

My dh had to call maintenence to get a power cord to set up the 'puter as someone had taken it. They were here within 10 minutes....although they were banging on our door again at 11:30 because they thought we'd called about a ceiling leak...we hadn't, they had the wrong room. They apologized profusely.

My biggest issue is size, mainly based on our experience with the Vistana (we stayed in the newer Lakes section 2 years ago)....it is really small in comparison. Every room is smaller. The other 2 items of disappointment are that there are no windows on one whole side of the condo (whereas Vistana had windows in all bedrooms, the kitchen, and living areas). I like a lot of windows! The other thing is that our view is of the parking lot. Gee, real interesting. So even though there are massive windows in the living room, there isn't anything to look at. Again, I didn't think this would be a big deal, but I find myself wishing I had *something* to look at besides car grills....we are hanging out at the condo for three days, so it would have been nice to have a real view. Make sure you request that if it's important to you.

We haven't tried any othe the pools yet, and it looks like that will be a slim possibility as Orlando is expecting the coldest temps in 20 years for the next couple days *sad*. But we'll look around the grounds tomorrow and report back later.

So first impression is that this place is really nice, especially for the $90/nt we are paying. I would stay here again probably so long as I got a southern facing unit with a view of the pools or folliage. But I gotta say that with 5 kids and 4 adults, the Vistana has a slight edge given the more spacious unit size, brighter units (because of more windows) and more activities.

Feel free to ask questions...I'll log on each evening.

Cindy, thank you so much for taking the time to post. The first thing I did was email Cypress Pointe requesting a view other than the parking lot, lol.

Does the bedroom (the one with the open toilet) have a lock?

We are thinking of bringing our laptop too. Does the room have high-speed? Does it cost extra?

Sorry to hear about the temps. :(

Hope you have a great vacation anyways

Sandy

I stayed there last year and the master does lock. It was a huge pain, I thought. Every time I wanted to change or use the bathroom or have any privacy at all, there wasn't a master bath to just pop in to. Had to lock the bedroom door. I also knew about this ahead of time and thought it would be no big deal. It wasn't life or death, but it was annoying!

Hope you're enjoying your trip. Bummer about the weather. The same thing happened to us last Feb. Everyone was walking around the Magic Kingdom with jackets on. We also stayed at the Vistana the year before. My favorite resort!!

Jenn

I think you will find if you really check into numbers that Vistana Lakes units ARE smaller then Cypress Pointe..

thanks jdm. I can't see the shutting the bedroom door as a big deal but I guess I'll find out in a few weeks, lol.

We stayed in Fountains, the older units with the whirlpool tub in the bathroom instead of the bedroom. I can't speak for Lakes but Fountains were huge. One and a half at least bigger than CP.

Lakes and Cascades are the newer units at Vistana and quite a bit smaller then the other sections there..and overall I believe smaller then the Cypress Pte units

Thank you so much for posting, Cindy! :D I, too, am interested in the high speed net that is supposedly available at CP. DH is really hoping it's up and running. We also requested a 1st floor unit...we'll probably put in another request for a better view too, thanks for the heads up. Also thanks for mentioning the lack of pantry space and the need for extra supplies...now we can be prepared! I look forward to hearing more...hope you guys are having a great trip!! :flower1:

I just booked into CPR today, so I will be watching your postings closely :magnify: I don't know if I did the right thing- but I know the price was right !! :cloud9: I will be a nervous wreck until July LOL :Pinkbounc

Are the rooms as nice as the pictures show on the internet site? They look fabulous and I'm alwasy disappointed when I check in....I think I get my hopes up!

Square footage-wise, Vistana may be smaller overall, but the bedrooms and bathrooms in CP are smaller. My 3 teenage girls and 2 toddler boys are sharing a tiny bathroom with a single sink and ONE towel bar. The second bedroom is DINKY and unusable for anything but sleeping....I was hoping for a place to let the boys 'bounce'.

I'm am using high speed internet as I type ;) No problems, but there *is* a $20 fee for the week, so be prepared (hubby says $5 per 24 hours).

My car needed a jump yesterday morning....staff said they couldn't help me because of liablility, which while understandable, p*ssed me off. When we locked the keys in the car at Vistana, their maintenence helped us. The cab driver that brought dh back from the conference was nice enough to help us out, and didn't even charge us.

We finally got around to walking over to the Grandvilla's side, and I think I will request those if we stay here again....the pool and play area are way nicer. There's a put put course, and a neat playground area. My kids did use the Volcano pool on our side today and enjoyed it, although they mentioned they missed the pools at Vistana.

I suppose for the money, it's very nice, but I was spoiled at Vistana. If money for lodging were tight, I'd stay here again happily, but I think I prefer Vistana overall. I definitely don't like the traffic this side of 1-4 as well, but there are many restaurants and shops nearby.

OH, and the unit's are decorated very nicely, no sea foam green and peach :teeth: We are in a building that *just* got remodeled. In fact my boys watched 'bob the builder' load mattresses into the buildings across the lot. The beds are very comfy, but the pillows are those hard foam rocks. Bring yer down pillows if you're used to them....

Trying to think if anything else sticks in my mind....I can hear the neighbors just vaguely running water and such, but hallways are quiet...I never hear door slams or anything and they are very clean. There seems to be quite a lot of older folks around, and have seen very few families.

Off to soak in my jacuzzi....I'll check if there's anymore questions for me tomorrow night.

ACKKK! I forgot the biggiest thing that DROVE ME CRAZY! They called 3 different times to hear us say "no, we don't want to come to a presentation". My FIL told them no, I told them no when they called again, then they called when my dd was babysitting and told them no again!

Now THAT is annoying to me. Be firm if you don't want to sit thru a presentation.

Cindy,

Thanks for posting more info! I especially appreciate the info about the high speed net charge (bummer, but oh well) and the pillows...we'll be sure to bring our own. Also, we'll have to wander over to the GV side to check out the pool, putt putt golf, and playground areas. I'd love to try the Vistana, but our budget is a huge concern for us and CP seems to offer many amenities for a good price. Oh and thanks for the heads up re:the timeshare presentation calls...we will just ignore the phone and have family reach us on our cell! We ignored the calls at Orange Lake last year too. Perhaps we could just mention at check in that we aren't interested, so they shouldn't waste their time calling us...

Hope your trip is still going well! :)

Thanks Cindy,

20.00 a week is cheap for highspeed. Last hotel I stayed in ( a month ago) was charging 9.99 a day. I've heard others prefer the Volcano pool, maybe it depends on the age of the kids??

You are comparing alot with Vistana...are these resorts rated the same? same price range? Just trying to see if its a fair comparison, you are starting to make me nervous.

Cindy - post some pictures of your suite when you have a chance...if you can of course!!

I'll be staying at the Grand Villas though but would be nice to see what it lookks like!

Chantal

most people like Cypress Point - and Sheraton's Vistana is sometimes rated higher - sometimes not.

Sheraton's Vistana get lots of mixed reviews too.

if you can disconnect the phone do it. If you can't (lots of timeshares you can't) - then turn the sound down - especially if it is waking your children.

call the marketing department and explain that they are waking up your child - which is against your rights....

Vistana is the only other timeshare we've used in this area. Vistana is more expensive, I believe we paid $150 a night. That's why the comparison. Amenities are similar, though.

Don't be scared. I'm just trying to be very detailed in my review. Remember I'm travelling with 9 people, so size is an issue. For $90 a night, I don't think you can touch anything as luxurious as CP....my IL's are continually amazed at what we're getting for the price. It is *very* clean, and the decor is tasteful and pleasant. I"ve really had a hard time finding anything *wrong* with this place....

Played putt-putt, swam at the Volcano pool twice....kids loved it. Off to DD for ice cream and shopping!

ok, thanks. I was going to start researching it if it was the same price. Please keep posting if you have time, its very helpful.

Glad your having a nice vacation....looks like the weather is picking up for you abit :)

Nice Pictures Cindy!!!! Looks like you're having an awesome time!

any recent info? How are things going these past few days since your last postings? I'm really sitting on the fence, ready to book this place for our family of 5 this summer, and not sure what's holding me back. I love reading about your experiences as they're unfolding. Thanks! :cutie:
