I have attended MNSSHP for several years. Last year, I went three different nights. This year, I attended on 10/27.
My sister and I arrived at MK about 5pm. We got our wristbands at the gate and decided to ride a couple of rides. We walked into POTC and got immediately on a boat. After that, we went to Frontierland and got dinner at PBs. There were only about two other groups of people in the entire restaurant.
After eating, we went to ride HM. We got right in. We walked around the park and took in the decorations. The Pooh ride only had a ten minute wait. Very unusual! At about 7pm, I told my sister that we needed to go to Main Street and sit down to wait for the parade at 8:15. The parade is my favorite part and I wanted a good seat. We went to Main Street and no one was sitting. My sister and I picked a spot and sat down. We had fun watching people entering the park in costume. At this time, many people were leaving the park. The CMs funneled people leaving down the right side of Main Street, while people entering came up the left. It was very orderly.
About 7:45, people finally started sitting down along Main Street. I must say that this is the only year that I've attended where I did not have people pushing in behind me or trying to get so close that I ended up sitting sideways. It really wasn't very crowded. That really seemed odd to me because the sign said it was a sell out.
Once the parade ended, something very surprising to me happened. A huge crowd of people began to enter the park. Of course, some folks left after the first parade, but many more entered than left. We stayed until after Hallowishes to leave. We stopped in a shop for about five or ten minutes and then went to the monorail. We didn't even wait in line to get on the monorail. There were six people, including my sister and I, in the monorail compartment.
So, here is my take on the situation. I believe people waited until after the parade because they had heard that non-party guests would not be forced to leave the park until the party began. They probably thought it would be less crowded after the first parade because guests who arrived early would be leaving. Wrong! It was great being there early. The crowd was very light and did not pick up until after the first parade. The non-party guests were not a problem at all.
