Obscure Meal Voucher Question

The family of a friend of ours who is traveling with us to WDW in September won a WDW vacation in 1988. They still have some meal vouchers remaining that were unused.

About the vouchers:
  • No expiration date showing
  • Red in color
  • Unique number printed on each
  • Says "Contest Winners Lunch at Walt Disney World"
They indicate vadity at certain restaurants, many of which go by new names now or perhaps don't serve lunch any more.
Disney's Contemporary Resort
- Top of the World

Magic Kingdom
- Crystal Palace

Disney's Polynesian Resort
- Papeete Bay Verandah

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort
- Trail's End Buffet

The Disney Inn
- The Garden Gallery

Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort
- Grand Floridian Cafe

She has four adult and four child vouchers. Is it possible to exchange these vouchers out at WDW guest services for today's equivalent? If there even is an equivalent? If it is, how would it even work with many of these choices not even available today? If we could find a use for them they would be handy, if not no big deal. It never hurts to ask. She also has a number of recreation vouchers. We are unlikely to do any recreation activities at the resorts so those wouldn't help much si I didn't provide any details on those.

I think your best bet is to go to guest services before trying to use them and see what they say or suggest.
If you just tried to use them I imagine your food would get cold, or spend awhile of usual park time while a manager has a resolution.

We weren't planning to just take them to the restaurant. I know we would need to exchange them first. Just wanting to know if it is even possible?

The closest I could say from personal experience is in the final nights of PI. A friend gave me an extra PI pass they had from several years ago. I was prepared to pay if they did not honor it. But it was honored.
I don't think you really will know until you go to guest services. I am not sure if there are coupons for anything like that out there now.
It may be what they would do is credit the meal against the guest's room charge. :confused3

I would say they would probably be honored at the Crystal Palace, Trail's End Buffet, and Grand Floridian Cafe as these restaurants still exist. Of course CP is now a buffet with characters.

As far as Top of the World, it has been replaced by California Grill which does not serve lunch, but it may be accepted at The Wave.

Papeete Bay Verandah has been closed for many years, it may be accepted at Kona Cafe.

And Disney Inn is now Shades of Green and clearly would not be accepted.

If you want to try fie first three I would suggest you make reservations and when you get there to check in ask to speak with a manager.

To the best of my knowledge they no longer have table service vouchers as such; the only meal vouchers I know of are sold to groups and are valid only at Quick Service locations. So there is nothing that Guest Relations could exchange them for. But since they don't expire they are still good.

(As a side example, we still have people come to the water parks with River Country tickets and we allow them entry to the park.)

Thanks for all the advice. We had no issues using the vouchers at Cyrstal Palace. Guest relations wasn't able to help with them at all but when we arrived at the restaurant they were willing to accept them.

We were also very pleased with our lunch at Crystal Palace. We weren't sure when we looked at the menu, but the food was very good.
