Okay guys,is this fat or obese ? I am 16 and I weigh 199 and 1/2 lbs and I am 5 ft tall.
 
Do you like your body shape? If not, you can start to do something about it. Choose a sensible eating plan, and even more important, get and/or stay physically active. Talk to your doctor, mom, or nurse at school for advice if you want. The goal is to be healthy and happy with yourself.

A label of "fat" or "obese" isn't necessary to start on a healthy life. Those words can hurt. Without knowing you, I have a feeling that you are about to start on a new way of living, and you picked the right group of people to come to! We need you to help cheer us on, and we REALLY want to see you succeed in sticking with an eating/activity plan that makes you feel GOOD!

Remember - you are much more than simply a body shape.

I want to echo what Disboo said!! Labels aren't important!! I hope you will decide to join us on WISH!! It's always great to have another member of our support group!! :D
 
There is a clinical definition of 'obese' and that is weighing 30% more than your ideal body weight. Is this what you are asking? So a person who weighs 156 and should weigh 120 would be considered obese by the medical profession. There is also the lovely term 'morbid obesity' which means someone is 100 lbs over their 'ideal' weight. Calling a persons body shap as 'fat' is purely a subjective description.

If you are curious what an "ideal" weight range for your height is according to the BMI chart (which is what most of the medical profession use as a guideline) here's a link so you can get an idea of what they suggest. BMI Chart
This is what I used to help me to set a healthy weight goal for myself. :D
 
You are doing good just by looking here. Fat is relative...on babies it's "cute" on men its "distinguished" and on girls and women its "fat" Get as much information as you can, find encouragement that you are young and like yourself. People who are the happiest genuinely truly like themselves. Size or "fat" dosen't matter.:tongue:
 
Okay,acorrding to the Bmi chart I have a 31.1 BMI and I am 30.0 - 34.9 Obese High Very High so that means I need to take action. So Iasked my mom tomake an Well physical appt. with my dr., i will let you guys know how it goes !
 
Way to go, Keypooh90! It sounds like you are heading in the right direction! It's a very good idea to get your dr.'s advice. He can steer you along the right path to safely losing weight!! Hope to see you back here soon!:D

I think it's definately wise to see a doctor. What does your doctor say at your yearly well check-ups. If you do this with the help of a doctor, and you and your parents work together to prepare healthy alternatives for you to eat, you can definately gain control of this. Now is a great time to do it. :wave: Hi there and congratulations! You are on the right path and that you are doing this wisely while you are young is commendable. Don’t be discouraged, you will do fine. Find a way to have fun with this and you will be successful. It is a life time of wise choices that you are after and you can do this. You will be in the best company if you come here for support.
