I have a few points to make about the first post. All of the following is JMHO.
1 There are many more healthy options at WDW compared to 10 years ago.
You can eat healthy there if you want to.
2 Vacations are times for people to have fun and enjoy life, this includes eating foods that you might not have on a regular basis. Example: I don't eat dessert after dinner at home. But I do sometimes on vacation.
3 I have traveled all over the USA and yes, there are many obese people at WDW compared to all the other vacation destinations I've been to. Many are morbidly obese.
My theory on why this is:
WDW is a place known for it's family freindly atmosphere, where the employees are kind and polite to everyone.
You can be reasonably assured of not having to deal with vulgar or insulting sights or actions.
I personally believe that most obese people use food as a form of self medicating for problems in their lives. Some people use booze, some drugs, but food is all around and cheap. Some people are disabled or have other reasons they are obese.
Obese people like to go to WDW because for the most part they can be free from the rudeness from others they deal with in their everyday lives. So you have a larger than normal percentage of guests that are obese there compared to the average vacation destination.
It is a known fact that the population of the US is heavier than ever, but I blame the sedentary lifestyle most people live these days, the large portions and all the dining out people do compared to when I was a kid 40+ years ago. You never saw morbidly obese people, much less very obese ones back then. People ate out at most once a month. When I was a kid a regular hamburger and small fry was an adult meal at McDonalds.
I believe most people do know the correct way to eat these days, and are very aware of the calories in most foods. They just aren't too worried about that large portion of fries when there are bigger things in life to worry about- terrorism, layoffs, savings going down the tubes, etc.
4 In the end, you are responsible for your own body and health, not the government or buisnesses.
Of course all this is my speculation, I could be very wrong as I often am!
