I'm so sorry for another OBB post. I know there are some around here and I wanted to piggyback on one, but I couldn't find one!!

Anyway, cruise in 20 days(ish - YAY!). Also have one booked for next summer (Through DU, my first experience with a TA, and I'm nervous about it, just because I like control).

Let me see if I understand -

So, I payed my initial deposit. On the cruise I go somewhere (where?) and re-shop my cruise. If its the same price I paid, or lower, I re-book and get (maybe 10% off, maybe a OBC, maybe both?).

Does Disney refund the money and then recharge to the new amount?
The Disney OBC can then be combined with DU OBC and the OBC for using my disney visa (which I understand is only drinks, which brings up another question, how do they know that)?

Anything else I should know about doing this? Is there a limit to the number of OBB's you can make? I feel like if I save 10% (and they refund my $$ and then charge the new amount) I could use that $$ to book a placeholder in the future - and if I chose not to take that cruise, it'd be refundable, right?

This Disney cruising stuff is addictive and I haven't even set foot on a ship yet!!

You go to the future cruise desk to reshop/rebook. The discounts will be taken on the price the cruise you wish to book is currently, not what you paid originally. Onboard booking is 10% deposit (on cruises of 7 nights and longer), 10% discount on cruise fare, and $100 OBC (cruises less than 7 nights) or $200 OBC (cruises of 7 nights and longer).

It's my understanding that you will need to pay up front for the new reservation and be refunded for the original reservation

OBC can be combined if from another source (other than Disney). So you can't get both the onboard booking OBC as well as the Disney VISA OBC.

Regarding the OBC for drinks, charges to your onboard account are coded and identified, so a beverage purchase shows up as a "drink" and will be credited from the Disney VISA OBC (if you have it). One note - the entire reservation (from deposit to final payment) must be paid via the VISA to get that OBC

Onboard booking perks are only on a maximum of 2 rooms on any one future cruise. You can make more reservations (additional rooms on the same cruise, or other cruises) but they will not receive the onboard booking perks.

When we reshopped a cruise at the future cruise desk, the price was the same as when we originally booked the cruise, so we made an entirely new reservation on board to get the OBB benefits (and paid the new deposit). When we got back home, we let our TA know that we needed to have the original reservation cancelled and the deposit refunded. We were also able to get the original rooms we had booked, although that may not always be possible.

That is how it was working in Feb 2015. I'd plan for it being the same thing - you pay an entirely new deposit and they refund the other to its form of payment (as soon as it hit the account I put that amount back onto the cruise since I was already not used to having that money.

Not sure if this is how it supposed to work, but my wife and I did book 3 placeholders on one cruise. Since then. they were converted into 3 staterooms on a cruise next July. Two of them got the full OBB benefits (reduced deposit, 10% discount and $200 stateroom credit). The third room still got the $200 stateroom credit, but no discount or reduced deposit. I think the future cruising CM said it was a "Friends and Family" reservation.

Just one other thing to note. I wasn't sure if the cruise you were taking in a couple weeks was booked by your TA or only the one next summer. When doing an onboard booking, they will only allow you to name a TA if that TA has booked your current cruise. So you may not be able to put DU on your onboard booking immediately. You may need to name them as your TA when you get back from your cruise. I don't know if that affects the OBC they are giving you. But thought you should be aware so 1. you can see if that affects whether or not it is worth reshopping onboard and 2. you know you have to do an extra step when you get home if you do rebook.

I thought it changed where you pay a flat fee (not 10% of cruise) and get a voucher so you don't have to pick a specific cruise in the future? Maybe I was dreaming that IDK.

Pretty sure they still have that, but some of us know the cruise we want to take and are allowed to book the cruise rather than a placeholder voucher thingy.

Thanks for this info! The current trip was not booked by DU so this could be an issue for me!! Will look into it more!

You can name a TA even if the current cruise you are on wasn't booked by any TA. What you can't do is name a new TA if your cruise was booked by a different TA. So if you are on a cruise that you booked with DU, you can only list DU as the TA or list no TA then transfer the cruise when you get home.
