Obama's spending and polls

He was leading by 8 points nationally the other day, that's pretty close to a landslide

...and if you look at the current electoral projections, you'll come away with a pretty sizable landslide win for Sen. Obama as well.

The fact that Obama HAS so much money to spend on his campaign screams about how much support he has from his supporters.
This is a great point, and indeed perhaps the biggest impact of the commercials and the notoriety surrounding the financial support the Obama campaign has is the ratification that provides -- the evidence, if you will -- that so many people support him. There are many people who weren't sure but are heartened by the fact that so many people are not only going to vote for Obama, but are so strongly in favor of his election that they're willing to put their money where their mouths are.

Perhaps McCain's supporters are not as generous OR perhaps he has far fewer supporters.
McCain capped his own spending by agreeing to spend taxpayer money on his campaign. However, it could be that he did so, at least in part, because he was fearful that he couldn't garner the kind of support that we see Obama actually garnering.

Obama's ads here in Ohio are sooooooo much more positive, light and encouraging.
Yes, I've noted a distinct difference in tone between Obama ads and McCain ads I've seen. I cannot imagine anyone being inspired to vote for McCain based on his ads. It seems that his ads are crafted to secure votes from the right-wing, rather than appeal to moderates and independents.

I'm just trying to make a point. McCain/Palin is a very weak ticket.
To be fair, McCain alone was a much stronger ticket. It is very telling when a VP brings the ticket down, instead of brings the ticket up.

Indeed, and McCain's support is faltering even in traditional strong-holds like Montana. Surely, McCain will win Montana (I mean, otherwise, I'll keep an eye out for the lollipop fairies), but the fact that it has gotten this close even there is really quite remarkable.

Obama has already proven one thing, He is very good at spending other People's Money. There will not be a drop of Campaign Cash Left.

Yeah, other people who gave Barack Obama the money to spend. I gave Mr. Obama another $100 over the weekend, I hope he spends every cent of it to help assure that he becomes the next President of the United States.

I donated last weekend. Again. Seems like there are many of us doing the same thing.

Every time I see another ridiculous thing come out in the media about Barack Obama, I donate again.

Or perhaps, Obama broke his word and opted out of public campaign financing.

Since he raised $150 millon last month I would say that was a good decision.

Maybe you could tell us why McCain went back on his pledge to run a clean campaign about the issues?

Yes, I seem to recall a statement of "I will never use robocalls"....

When did McCain and the RNC hit the limit on accepting campaign donations? What are they doing now if someone wants to donate? Has anyone verified that they are indeed no longer accepting campaign contributions?

It seems to me when you can't think of an intelligent response, you start screaming racism. Face the facts Obama is just a weak canidate. With all the Bush hatred, the Dems should be winning by a landslide. The country is just not comfortable with a president as LIBERAL as BO. Sure racism exists but I'd be willing to bet people are more concerned with how he'll affect their wallets than the color of his skin.

Yeah, he's WEAK.....

I guess the sickly guy with the brilliant running mate is STRONG. :rolleyes1

Sorry to offend those who think America is color-blind, but I think it's all about racism. We have a cancer-stricken old man whose running mate is a certified moron, yet the race is still very close. Let's face it, if Obama were white, this race would have been long over.

I know I'm gonna get flamed, but I see racism every day. EVERY DAY!!!! And I live in a very liberal town. I'm not accusing all McCain supporters of racism, but to say racism is not a big issue in the US is delusional.
If it wasn't for racism, Hillary would be the Democratic candidate. If Obama was white, he would have gotten about as many votes as Joe Biden and no more.

This election is not about money in the way you insinuate. The fact that Obama HAS so much money to spend on his campaign screams about how much support he has from his supporters. Perhaps McCain's supporters are not as generous OR perhaps he has far fewer supporters. Whatever the reason, Obama war chest is amazing and it doesn't hurt to have the funds. It's how W Bush(43) won his first election(if you discount the voter disenfranchisement) and it will be how many others keep their faces in front of the people. Obama's ads here in Ohio are sooooooo much more positive, light and encouraging. If I had to watch that many of McCain's dark, suspicious, haunting ads it would be pretty demoralizing. Hey, think that's why McCain is doing so poorly?....running a negative campaign when people need to be hearing positive messages?
Obama has been trying to buy this election since the get go. Thats what his tax plan is all about.

Obama is able to spend so much because he broke his promise to the American people. He (gasp) lied to all of his supporters and detracters alike. McCain kept his word That is why he is able to spend as much as he can.

Obama's positive campaign? Cool. It will last until November 5th. Then the middle class tax cuts - go away. His increased spending for certain projects for Democrats - goes away (except for the pet projects of Pelois/Reid). His Centrist attitude - goes away. His health care plan - goes away. His "leading the world" - goes away (just ask Joe Biden). And he'll keep giving us happy signs that everything is ok - while we are led into a depression.

Obama isn't your average nominee. I'm not throwing the race card out there, but it's not easy for someone like him to get a big lead like how you're suggesting. I'm just wowed, like many others, at the fact that he's gotten this FAR and is AHEAD period. The big money he's got is just the icing on the cake. :lovestruc

A depression? I thought that President Bush signed the $700 bailout plan and forcibly socialised the American banking system in order to fend off a depression?

Just curious. You do realize that the above pic is actually a pic of a Hitler rally in Nazi Germany that has been altered with BO's seal?? :rotfl:

...and I guaran-damn-tee you that the arrows would have been just as sharp and cries of "Socialism" would have been just as loud based on her universal health care plan alone had she won the nomination. What's amazing is that some of you guys actually think that now that Sen. Obama's our party's new standard bearer that we've somehow forgotten all about how the Clinton's were dragged through the mud by the RNC. The PUMAs are willing to give you a pass because they're POed, but not the rest of us.

The only promise Obama is going to keep is to increase taxes on the "rich". This will lead to fewer jobs. Which leads to less spending. Which leads to less jobs. Yes, a depression.

And, if we are to believe Joe Biden, Obama will be facing a very serious international crisis almost immediately. An Obama presidency means we are truly screwed - and that from your VP choice.

Yeah, I thought that picture looked suspicious. Thumbs up to the rest of them, though.
