Obamacare success stories please

At what price and for how long. As the iron lady said

"Eventually the government will run out of our money".

Our premium has not increased. The government is not paying for our insurance. Why do you assume that it is?

Why do you have to resort to sarcasm and thinly veiled innuendo to make your point? Do you think it is constructive to our national dialogue? Argue positions using facts and we can all emerge stronger. There is a massive delta between catastrophe and perfection, and if we work together, we can get better. If we all just snark from the hedges, nothing will get better and we all lose.
Sorry. Sarcasm and thinly veiled innuendo is about all I can choke up. I don't want any more points.

Besides, this is the DIS, it's all about pixie dust, isn't it? ;)

So, you look over people's shoulders to see what color their credit card is and then if its white and blue you look over their purchases?

I have no idea what they look like in Florida.
I have no idea what they look like in Wisconsin either :confused3.

Yes, the points have been flowing lately.

OK, then let's all assume that the new healthcare law is a complete thumbs up success!:thumbsup2

No, it's not.

My plan is being cancelled at the next renewal in September. It is non compliant with ACA because it doesn't have pediatric dental and vision. It doesn't matter that DS is too for it, anyway. All of the other 9 essential points are already in the plan.

My cancelled plan is a PPO. There no longer are PPOs in the individual or small group market in NJ. In order to have out of state coverage for DS in college, I have to get the most expensive silver or gold plan. Not many choices either, BCBS doesn't have this plan and I don't trust the co-op to stay in business.

My plan is not going to cost 2500 less than I am paying, in fact it will probably be more. But that is for the greater good, so I should just suck it up. But I'm tired of sucking it up and prefer to complain.

I am truly sorry. And no sarcasm there. A lot of people will be hurting.

Isn't sarcasm also against the rules? Constructive conversation may help and isn't against the rules, so if you don't want points, we could all try that. I'd like to see if we, as a representative sample of the country, can work together while our leaders do not. Or does nobody think we can come to a consensus? I'd start a thread for that!

While that is a catchy statement that you are fond of posting, it is not economically accurate nor is it supported by empirical evidence. It is, however, highly politically slanted, which seems to go against the rules of the board.

It is being played out all over the world today. I'm not just talking about healthcare.

Last time I looked Europe isn't in that great a shape.

ACA right now is failing. The sign up/enrollment is low and the majority who are signing up are for Medicaid. And they won't be be paying into the plans.

ACA will then have two ways to go. it collapses or taxes will go up big time to support it.... And there is only so much money to go around...thus the government runs out of money. And where do they get the money... From us! The sad truth is nothing in this world is free. One way or another you end up paying for it....period.

Thank you. I know prices go up, I knew it wouldn't save 2500, we're used to double digit increases every year. But I want what I want and they took it away. I just want to know my DS is covered for everything when he is away, or when we travel to Disney. All these rotten EPOs that limit your coverage to 25 miles from home (not sure how far) means people can't travel safely.

They are White in Georgia.or the ones I have seen are. The only reason I even knew what is was, at the store when asked cash, credit or debit, I have heard people say EBT. This was at a convenience store and I was behind them so saw them slide it thru the machine.

Never had the experience. Never once saw someone use an EBT card or mention one. But even if they did, I would pay no more attention to their groceries than if they paid with AmEx.

I think Finland, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Swizerland, just to name a few would disagree with you on that.

I don't even know what they bought:confused3 and wouldn't have even known what form of payment they used if they hadn't said it out loud. When I'm in the checkout line at the grocery store, all I am interested in is getting out as fast as I can.:)

Me too. The only time I pay attention is when someone is taking forever counting out exact change.

:goodvibesDo what you have to do. :goodvibes

That's part of the problem. In many areas of the country, their choice is high quality food for 2 or maybe 3 weeks & no money left for food the remaining 1-2 weeks OR cheaper, junkier food that will last the whole month. When you're a single mom working 2 part-time jobs, it's hard choices. She's going to choose buying foods that she can buy enough of to last until her next allotment.

I've been there. Both as a child & as a young adult. Growing up, we ate a lot of pasta, rice and beans. Peanut butter. Super cheap cereals. Oatmeal, grits, cream of wheat. We had corn bread or biscuits with dinner every night because, from scratch, they're cheap methods of adding calories to the meal.

As a young adult with my own children, we ate a lot of the same foods, but I did things to stretch even more. Adding beans to ground beef for tacos or sloppy joes. Things like that. Pasta or rice was always served on, under or beside everything. Beans, from dried, at least once a week. Spaghetti, no meat, at least once a week.

The foods listed are CALORIE dense, not NUTRIENT dense. Big difference.

But we're getting way off topic.

I just wanted to say that I meant junk like chips, soda, candy, cookies.

well i still have no idea if i am success story or not........ website is still down in NJ been waitng for Obamacare people to call me back for over a week..... my small group plan being cancelled in feb........... so have no idea where i stand................told by navigators to just wait for a call.... they are backed up...... could be a while....... well its only been a MONTH since they set up the site........

So what I gather is that food stamps can and should be used to buy junk food and everyone is OK with that. Right?

I just want to understand the mindset.

That is absolutely my mindset, for a few reasons.

First and foremost, I have no faith that the definition of "junk" wouldn't be hopelessly skewed based on lobbying efforts and/or the latest dietary fads. For a quick and easy example, look at the vending machines in any school cafeteria - they can't sell fruit juice because of the sugar content, but offer a full array of "diet" and "lite" sweetened drinks as though aspartame and yellow #5 and brominated vegetable oil is the better choice of the two.

Second, I believe even poor families should be able to have a treat sometimes. The reality of food stamps is that it doesn't provide a generous budget, but if well managed it can provide enough to splurge on an occasional treat and for families who likely can't afford any other treats, no matter how small, being able to get a cake for a birthday or a couple frozen pizzas to have a pizza-and-movie night is a big deal.

How is everyone doing with the new healthcare law?
Our rate only went up 17%.

Has anyone seen their rates go down $2500 per family?

Not premiums, but OOP costs. Without taking the subsidy into account, the premium for the plan that we will most likely choose is about the same as we were paying before, but with a lower deductible by half, better co-insurance coverage, an OOP maximum of less than half of the old plan, and of course the mandated preventative care coverage. So we're going from paying a lot of money for insurance we couldn't afford to use to paying a lot of money for insurance that will actually cover our most common healthcare needs (because most years our health care spending is well visits times 5 and maybe one or two sick visits/rounds of antibiotics) and that won't bankrupt us if the worst happens and we need to use it to the fullest.

Oh, and for the first time in over a decade we can be sure our plan won't be cancelled should that worst-case ever strike, something that has not been the case for people buying plans on the individual market any time in my adult life - get really sick, so sick that you make heavy use of your insurance, and you could pretty much count on losing that coverage at the next renewal.

This. For MANY families relying on SNAP to provide their ENTIRE food budget, a treat like cake or ice cream is very, very rare. Yes, there are people who manipulate the system. That doesn't mean we should throw the whole system out.
