ObamaCare Info

the problem is,you automatically are assuming that
1) people on medicaid are not having a healthy lifestyle. No every one on medicaid does not spend their days at fast food sitting in front of a tv. plenty of them do the best they can.

2) you're assuming they don't know about proper nutrition. They are poor not stupid. My dh knew a boat load about nutrition and he was amateur cyclist. he still got luekemia. My mother was a very healthy women up until the time she got breast cancer.

many folks on medicaid are working poor with high school educations. many folks living in poverty are poor but still read labels and try to eat as healthy as possible.

Not everyone who is poor doesn't know about healthy eating. There are lots though who do not. Is it wrong to educate them? Is it wrong to want them to have a healthier lifestyle?

My doctor is the one that needs that information, and she already has it, because she has my medical records. The Government or the insurance company doesn't need it if they can't use that information to turn me down.

Except that the government has put the burden of monitoring it on the health insurance companies and the government is highly involved in insurance. Think of Medicare, all these federal plans on the exchanges, etc. If they're paying toward your care, they want to know you're getting quality care to avoid high costs later.

Not at all.

I am finding a lot of comments here to be proof that media can sway "sheepeople"

[QUOTEYikes. I hope my Dh's employer never drops our insurnace coverage and we have to go on this. We pay way less than 7,729 in premiumes. OMG we could never afford that. We only pay around 2500 in premiums now! Please tell me I'm not interpretting this right because this is anything but affordable for our family!!

You are interpretting it right. While it doesn't seem affordable to you, my DH"s employer sponsored insurance has premiums higher than $7700.00 per year, which goes higher yet because we have a $12,000.00 deductible per family per year, or $3000.00 per person. So, in that respect, it is more reasonable for us. I am waiting to hear what kind of co-pays and deductibles Obamacare will have. That will make the difference for us, if it is cheaper or not. But we wouldn't qualify anway because at this time, my DH's employer plans to still offer the private insurance, so we wouldn't qualify for Obamacare......if I am understand THAT correctly. So this affordable insurance, isn't really doing much for us........

I just want to know who is going to police all of this? If people don't want to purchase the insurance, they get a fine? How are they going to be fined? Who is going to collect that? What if they don't pay?[/QUOTE]

How can your insurance plan even be called insurance? Here I thought my husband's insurance was bad.

They do educated people on nutrition and health in schools in both health, Phys ed, and other classes every year. To make a program to educated those asking for food stamps just ends up costing more tax dollars to rehash what they already learned over and over growing up. It is a matter of choice. As an example you can tell people of all income levels that drinking sugared drinks is bad for your body but if they like drinking those things they most likely will continue drinking those things. Education really doesn't have a lot to do with personal choice when it comes to something that they have already been told over and over again for years..

Hiring educators would cost money, that's true. Think though about the cost of heart diease, cancer, diabetes, etc. that come about because people aren't educated. It doesn't hurt to reiterate information about living a healthy life.

There is a whole page of info on how you can still qualify for managed health care even if your employer offers insurance on the government health care link. It goes into having to be considered a High deductible health plan, how if the employer has to pay more than 9.5% of their income for premiums and deductible etc etc.

Someone already answered your other question about who is policing it. When you fill out your taxes each year you need to also send in proof of insurance coverage. If you don't send in proof the IRS will take either 1% of your income or $95 per uninsured person in the household, whichever is greater as the penelty for not having it out of your refund check. There is also a long page of how you are not held accountable like if you live outside the USA so many months a year, are American Indian, if it is against your religion (I want to know what religion that is but I am sure anyone not getting insurance will know by the end of the year. lol) etc etc. You need to read the details to get the answers you are seeking.

As I said all people are educated year after year on diet and exercise and reiterating the info will do no good and will only cost more money from the taxpayer for not only educators, but classrooms, paperwork, databases, materials etc etc. Besides all of those things you quote are also hereditary and can not be fixed by diet alone. I have seen the devistation those conditions cause in some of the healthiest people.

Heredity plays a part but so does lifestyle. For example Type II Diabetes can be prevented or have its effects lessened by diet and exercise. Cancer is believed to also have a dietary/lifestyle component such as smoking and eating the rong foods as well as not exercising.
I remember being taught things about health in high school but I also know that learning them later on just emphasized the earlier learning. Kids don't usually pay as close attention because they think they'll live forever. Usually once someone becomes a parent and has children depending on them, they will listen more closely. How many kids speed when they drive or don't worry about seatbelts? Once they have kids themsleves though and know these kids depend upon them, their sense of responsibilty increases.
I too have seen the devastation these diseases bring and I know that in a few cases had the people stopped smoking or ate better, they might not have died of cancer or cardiac issues.

So true! My friend works at a free clinic downtown, and the women there all get prenatal care and nutrition counseling (at tax payer's expense) however the majority of the women give birth to low weight babies because they don't want to change their lifestyle. Many still continue to use drugs, alcohol, tobacco and have unprotected sex (even though they are pregnant they still contract sexually transmitted diseases). This is what causes the US to have a high infant mortality rate. You can spout all the statistics you want but until you know the reason for the numbers, you don't know what you are talking about. It's not the US healthcare system's fault that these women are having premature and stillborn babies - they give birth in the finest hospitals and have top notch healthcare. It is their behavior and lifestyle and all the money in the world won't change that!

Well,
I am hosed by everything about this plan. I make waaay too much to remotely qualify for any of these plans and get a credit. Because the health care that my company offers would be considered "cadillac", they are phasing to a new type of plan that incorporates Health Savings Accounts and high deductible insurance plans. The taxes on the "cadillac" plans are what are really subsidizing a lot of this stuff. Our company found this model unsustainable.

Our insurance would be considered decent care but we do have copays, prescription formularies and other standard insurance fees. Good but not millionaire good., not even Congress good but generally accepted as common in this area. Obamacare decided to punish these type of plans by adjusting for inflation instead of considering the way insurance premiums are calculated.

The high deductible type of plan will help to push more people off a financial cliff. They have to meet a certain deductible before anything kicks in but we have to slowly build HSA. Great, better not break my arm or have any real emergency.

Do the right thing all your life to get a position that offers reasonable, quality insurance and someone decides that you owe the world all your stuff including your health insurance. This is awesome.

Well said. People seem to be forgetting that it is the middle to upper middle class that get crushed here. I never understood certain people's problems with those that worked for any success, and their desire to provide to those who unfortunately have not attained that level at this point.

Additionally,t his plan with high deductibles will cause more moderate income earners to alter their lifestyle and become possibly more dependent on the government. Seems that is what the government wants.

Yep, the candidate who offers the most "free stuff" is the one who gets the votes!!

We too have the "Cadillac" plan, kiss that good bye. Your not alone. Work harder and smarter because Robin Hood needs more to give more. I didn't even get a free dinner before I got screwed.:(

I don't think people are getting it. Just because you have insurance doesn't mean you can now afford to go to the doctors or have medical treatments done.

Here's the loop hole don't pay the bill to go to doctors when you get sick again go to next doctor and the next and who gets to pay for all the doctors eating the bill? hello they are already doing it by going to the er.

Or better yet the new tax is cheaper then insurance woo hoo the federal government has found a new way to tax people. and still no insurance.

There are actually programs to educate those who get food stamps about nutrition and health. They operate through your local extension programs through the land grant university in each state

Are you saying personal responsibility? Hmm interesting concept.

Correct

As franklin said (paraphrase)

Once the people learn to vote themselves money, it spells the end of the republic.

Republic has been dieing slowly when we didn't fight the first income tax laws in 1862. Those who control the money control you.

tort reform is the worst thing the government could have done to health care.
