You can get Oakley sunglasses just about everywhere - there's a sunglasses shop in Universal (near the Jaws ride) that had some great Oakleys when I went - the latest models that I'd not seen anywhere else - but they're probably cheaper at the premium outlets. They also sell them from carts at the Waterparks in Disney - the cheapest place though is Ebay, I just won a pair of brand new white Oakleys for $85 inc shipping - can't say fairer than that!

To be honest we didn't find that they varied vastley from the prices in the UK.
Maybe we were just looking in the wrong places :-)
They sell them in Virgin MegaStore in Downtown Disney and we saw them in a few sunglasses shops on IDrive. As Daveyogurt says tho, the cheapest place is probably E Bay

They are cheaper than in the UK, for instance expect to pay $130 instead of £130 etc

Best places , there are plenty:

The Oakley store in the Florida Mall
The Oakley store(s) at Universal - near Jaws at US and near Spiderman at IOA
Quiet Flight surf store - near the Citywalk complex at Universal (cannot miss it really it's nextdoor to the cinema multiplex on the entrance to the theme parks).
Boardwalk Surf Store(s) , on the 192 near the Nike factory store and also at Pointe Orlando on I-drive
Think there are also Sunglasses Hut stores in the malls too.

Good luck.

I'll keep that info away from DH :rotfl:

:) - go on treat him!!

Things I do know about for shopping is where to buy Oakley, how to be patient while the wife is buying (another) handbag and where to buy disney vests for our son to keep cool in the hot weather.

DH got some oakley sunglasses from DTD, we paid $140 that included a case for them.

Yes I remember there being a shop near the Virgin Megastore but couldn't remember what it was called.

Would you say these shops sell the glasses at a similar type of price or are some of them more expensive than the others? Thanks.

HA HA HA :)

What a great idea, will do the same in August.

when we were there in november the oakley store in the florida mall had an extremely poor selection and staff that seemed to know nothing about the products, frames, and lenses that they did.

We didnt visit any of the outlet malls at the time but the two stores in universal (one next to jaws in the amity section of the park, one in islands of adventure close to spiderman in marvel island) had a good selection and were priced about dollar for pound.

as one previous poster mentioned:-

this place had the best selection and prices IMO and had the staff with the best knowledge of the products they sold.

the ones your husband is after are called okaley thumps. they are sunglasses with moveable lenses and a 256mb or 512mb mp3 player built in. they also arent cheap. heh. good luck hope this helps

There is a good sunglasses shop near the Dolly Partons dinner place next to the supermarket (I think its a Publix).

The guy in there is really helpful. The glasses are the same price as anywhere else but he pays the sales tax for you and includes a case free.

one thing to mention if you are planning to buy some. get a good idea of what style you want to buy before you go so you know the lense colour and frame colours so you can spot fakes also ensure any you buy come with the genuine box, and paperwork.

Just to add to the locations, there is/was (last time I went anyway in 2001) a Sunglasses Hut at Crossroads. I have bought twice from their in the past, price around dollar per pound. Fairly knowledgable, but I did research first and knew exactly which pair to buy. Also, don't be tempted at the airport on the way, you will definately get that pair in Florida and much cheaper. They may also have a wider selection than in UK anyhow. I haven't noticed much difference in price from shop to shop, really all around $10-15 price range either way.

They will try to sell you lens cleaner, which they claim to be the only type that works with Oakley lenses. Don't be taken in if you don't want it - regular lens cleaner is just the same. You will pay more for it in these shops than at an opticians.

Agreed. The prices there are the cheapest I could find. Although apart from the Publix, all the other shops are crap, IMHO :(

You do have to be careful with lens cleaner on Oakleys. The iridescent lenses are coated in a fine metallic layer on the outside so anything abrasive will knacker them. I use a lens cleaner that I bought for cleaning coated camera lenses (which have much thinner coatings).

All the shopping malls had stalls selling this miracle lens cleaners that they tried to spray on me. I told one guy there was no way I was letting that stuff near the very nice, high index, coated Hoya lenses in my glasses (was indoors, so didn't have the Oakleys on ;))

DH was going to get a pair this year when we're over.

I thought that Oakley set the price and all shops sold them for the same price. We noticed that Ron Jons at Festival Bay and the store in City Walk were the same price and that all discounts at shops like Sunglass Hut excluded Oakleys.

What road s the shop near Dolly Partons dinner place on? Is that the same road as Premium Outlets?

I bought my Juliet's in Florida, and AFAIK, Oakley set the price and all stores sell at that price. The only way around that I know of, is to buy in Universal and if you have a Annual Pass you'll get 10% off.

As far as the price differential with the UK, I saved around £70 on mine (and that included a spare set of lenses) so they are a lot cheaper.

You just need to make sure you buy from a reputable place, and don't get ripped off by buying imitations.

Matt
