If you had a choice to go to one of these for a week, which would you choose?

We are going to Maui for a week in April. I hear it is beautiful with many natural attractions..including the road to Hanna and the seven sacred pools.

Maui :) I like to "get away from it all" and to me, Maui has much more of a tropical, relaxing feel than Oahu (Honolulu.) I also think it is a lot prettier.

So which part of Maui is it better to stay at, with more attractions and stuff to see, Lahaina side or the other side where the volcano is?

Maui, by all means. I would avoid staying in Hana because it's so remote and hard to get to/from that part of the island. Lahaina and Ka'anapali are nice places to stay. It's fairly easy to get around the island and those towns provide a nice jumping off place.

Maui hands down! You can always take a day flight over to Oahu to see the Arizona, etc.

I like Oahu the best. Stay part of the week in Waikiki then stay in a B&B in Kailua. Its just over the Poly highway from Honolulu (25 minutes by car). Especially if you have never been to Hawaii. Maui is a little too slow paced for me, but then again I am a definite on-the-go vacationer - hence the love of Disney. Nothing like needing a vacation from your vacation:smooth:

All kidding aside. For a first trip try Oahu. Or if you are truly looking only to relax the entire time then try Kauai. Either way you go you can't beat being in Hawaii!!

We really like Maui. Just got back last month. Haven't been to Oahu. I agree the Ka'anapali area is a great area to stay. Maui is so different than what we expected. Can't really explain. There are a lot of "I wish I had done that" things we didn't get to enjoy. The road to Hana is really pretty, but there aren't a lot of places that I could see to stay at. Enjoy the scenery. It is amazing. The surfers, especially the windsurfers are something to not miss watching. Lahaina is fun, but it took getting used to the "quaint" little stores. If you go to Maui, be sure and get the book "Maui Revealed". It will tell you everything you want to know. Enjoy!

Stay on Maui and just take a day trip to Oahu. We went to both and Honolulu is like any other big city. It is quite easy to get from one island to another. We stayed in Ka'anapali and it was no big deal to get around. You'll have a great time!

So just call me a dummy....there is a bridge connecting Oahu and Maui? Which part of Oahu does it connect to, the 'away from Waikiki' end?

I think I misunderstood you, looking at a Hawaiin islands map now..........

MAUI MAUI MAUI MAUI MAUI!

(Did you get that?) ;)

Spent 8 nights in Maui and 5 in Oahu in July and we VASTLY prefer Maui. :)

I love the Wailea area in Maui, Kaanapali is also very popular. I wouldn't recommend staying by Haleakala (the volcano) but you should certainly consider a day trip there.

Wailea is the area I meant Michelle, when I said the other side by the volcano. But I see it is much more expensive, also.:teeth:

We only stayed in Oahu for 4 days and saw Maui for a day and a half but we would love to go back to Maui.

Maui hands down. Kapalua and Lahaina areas are nice.

Take the Road to Hana as a day trip.

Wailea is AWESOME, MJ, and yeah...it's expensive. :) But if you get the south end of Kihei (right by Wailea) there are lots of affordable condos around.

Honestly, there is no better definition of heaven on earth than those sunsets on the beach that we saw every night from our condo in Maui. :)

Looks like Outrigger Palms at Wailea is the least expensive, maybe they'll have a special for May 2004.....I see they got a special for the end of this year......:teeth:
