Oahu Disney Resort - Not part of DVC?

I recently signed a new purchase agreement for California Grand DVC. In the documentation on the last page of the purchase agreement there was this paragraph;

"Disney's resort on the island of Oahu, Hawaii in only a possible component site which may never be added to the Disney Vacation Club Multi-Site timeshare plan. Neither DVD nor any of the TWDC Companies have any obligation to build any additional Disney Vacation Club resorts or to add additional component site to the Disney Vacation Club Multi-Site timeshare plan. Do not purchase an interest in a Disney Vacation Club resort in reliance upon the addition of new resorts or component sites."

Can somebody help explain this to me? Is Hawaii going to be part of the DVC network or is it going to be separate?:scared1:

DVC-hawaii has been announced (well, i think half the resort is supposed to be DVC and half will be cash.) just like DVC-eagle pines was announced. DVC-eagle pines never got off the ground...similarly, DVC-hawaii could wind up being sold to another developer or a cash-only disney resort. until they start selling points, nothing is guaranteed.

Until an announced resort is completely built and declared into DVC inventory, it is not officially a component of the DVC system. The same "warning" has been included since the beginning when early OKW owners were warned that VB, HH and even BWV "might not be added to the Disney Vacation Club Multi-Site timeshare plan."

It is basically a legalese comment protecting DVC in the event that the proposed resort is not completed and added to the system. As noted, Eagle Pines was announced and construction started and then halted when SSR was added instead.

Until a new resort is officially open and announced as a DVC resort, it is not "officially" a DVC component.

When I bought BWV in 9/99, there was a similiar clause for Wilderness Lodge Villas, which was under construction.

Doc, whatever happened to Eagle pines? You said it was under construction. Did it become SSR or did Disney sell it? Very curious! Oh and why???

Eagle Pines was abandoned as a DVC Project. The area is being developed as a Four Seasons resort and fractional ownership timeshare.

After the terrorist attacks on 9-11, tourism was hit hard. "The Disney Institute" had never really taken off as Disney had hoped and the downturn was the final nail in the DI coffin. Disney shifted gears, abandoned Eagle Pines and converted DI into today's SSR. A few years back, Chuck says, they sold the property to Four Seasons for them to develop a luxury resort.
