Need to get a gift for our 10 year old nephew but I am completely lost as to what to get him. He told us an I-pod touch, but his parents said no way. Sooooo, what do 10 year old boys like? What clothing is in? What other gadgets do they go gaga over? He doesn't like sports except skate boarding and bmx bikes :confused3 We already got him an ipod so he does have one and he is no longer into his Ninetndo DS or whatever that game system is so not worth getting him a new game. Ack, some direction please. Thank-you :)

Sounds like you are considering some pricey gifts if you were considering the ipod touch. Does he have another game system like xbox or playstation that you could get a game for?

Our main shopping list for our 10 year old son for Xmas so far is:
Ipod Touch
Equipment to set up xbox live
War Movies (Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, and HBO Series: Band of Brothers)
Latest Diary of a Wimpy kid book
Box Set of And then it Happened books

He isn't really into brand name clothes but his older fashionista sister has insisted that he get some cool stuff so he got Aeropostale, American Eagle and Abercombie t's and sweaters for back to school as well as a couple baseball caps from same stores.

For skateboard shoes, OSIRIS is very in right now around here.

Does he like Lego? My DS13 loves Lego and builds all sorts of stuff with it. Over the years we have bought him Lego Star Wars, planes, and other specific Lego kits.

They like hockey stuff - those mini sticks are really popular

Bakugan toys available at toys r us are all the rage with my 10 year old nephews. I don't get it but they love them, plus they are cheaper than an ipod touch.

I also got my nephew a skateboard.

This year I am getting him a gift certificate to play laser tag. He is turning 11.

We had no clue that the ipod touch was pricey. Smart nephew, no wonder his parents said no way so he was going to try us instead. :) These are all great suggestions, thank-you very much. I'm going to write them out and head out to the stores this evening and now I won' t be so clueless :)

My 10yo is sitting right beside me and says lego is good, clothes from West 49, gift certificates so he can shop for himself, anything for his pony (but I'm sure that won't apply to you!!:lmao:) His friends all seem to be into hockey too - but not my ds'..... it's all about his pony - the higher he can jump the better!!

There are some bracelets called silly bandz that all the kids have around here right now too - no idea what the draw to them is!!

What about giving him some lessons he's interested in? Or take him on a special outing rather then a gift.

My 10 year old is into Nerf guns, Lego and games for the Wii and DSI.

A gift that keeps on giving...Magazine subscriptions.

I give one to all my nephews for their birthdays. They seem to love them.

Nintendo Power (if he's a gamer)
Transworld Skateboard (if he's a skater)
Zoobooks (for the animal lovers.)

Usually around $30 or $40 bucks for 10 to 12 magazines throughout the year.

Lego has a new online multi-player game coming out next month. A subscription to that would be a cool gift. You can do a month, six-month or year subscription. You can pre-order the subscription (if you have a Lego store near by they will give you a bonus for pre-ordering)

10 year old boys are tricky to buy for! I have a nephew who is 10, and some things he likes are:

Anything Nerf! Tech Deck Fingerboards (mini toy skate boards), Nintendo DS, Lego and K'nex, DVDs of his favourite TV shows, green army men (him & his 11 yr old brother LOVE these!), card games

ETA: If I was in your position, even though he wants an ipod touch, I wouldn't spend the money on it. Our family thinks age 10 is far too young for an ipod touch... and especially for a boy!(even though my nephew wants one) I'd wait until he was a little older. Less expensive, less breakable and harder to lose is the way to go!

My son loves hockey, video games, bmx bike riding. He enjoys his scooter board. He has always wanted a battery operated one. I wonder why no ipod touch? He has a subscription to Owl magazine and National Geographic for kids. He enjoys lego. He is currently into Club Penguin??? Seems kind of old for that but he and his brother and friends all get online and play together. He keeps telling me he has a cellphone and Ipad on his Christmas list, but I tell him to keep dreamin!

Definatly nerf.... forgot the nerf addiction!!

It really depends on the kid if 10 is too young or not for an ipod. My 10yo has had his for 2 yrs and it is still in perfect condition - comes in very handy for all the trips we take!!

I-tunes gift card or West 49 if there is one in your area. DS loves to pick out his own skater clothes. (even if he isnt a skater per se)

WalMart GCs are also popular gifts here.
