o/t good and bad day

Kari,

I'm sorry to hear that, because I'm finding out it's not that nice.

Yesterday made 2 weeks since it happened. The initial pain screaming pain I had in my back is gone, mostly that was just the first few hours. But like you the pain in my upper left thigh and knee is refusing to go away, but it does seems to be getting better a little bit at a time.

Yesterday during the day, there was actually little pain at all. I thought, I was still babying it by taking it easy and not pushing myself around the house, but after 2 weeks in the house I had to get out. The hubby and I did a few errands, he went in and I sat in the car. One stop was Best Buy. I thought "Hey I'm feel very good today, I'll go in.” I went to the camera department to look at memory for the digital camera and in the 2 second it took to look at the display on the end cap to turning the corner my leg gave out on me. I nearly fall down. The clerk who had been ignoring me before now came over to see if I was all right. I saw my husband on the cell phone and waved him over and told him to run to the front and get the wheelchair I saw there as we came in. Since I had finally had the clerk there, with tears in my ears I asked him about the memory while Paul was coming back with the chair.

Paul arrives back pushing the chair with one hand and still holding the cell phone to his ear with the other hand, he then processes to run over my left foot right across the toes. This is the leg I'm having trouble with, so in serious pain now I fall into the chair and take my shoe off. He has hit me at just the right angle to push the toenail on my big toe backwards. ouchie

Needless to say the rest of the day was pretty much ruined for me. I didn't even get the change to sit and play VMK yesterday. Had a lot of nightmares last night. It hurt a lot during the night; but it's feeling ok at the moment. However I think I'm ready to gnaw it off at the hip, if only I wasn't too fat to lend down and reach it. :)

Aww, hugs. I hope you feel better soon. Any type of back pain is a right royal pain in the bottom. :grouphug:
Sending pixie dust for a speedy recovery

Cat,

Sorry to hear that you are not getting better.

Sending LOTS of pixie dust you way.

Sorry you're not feeling better. I wish this would just go away. I told my boyfriend yesterday that it felt as if my leg was going to break off and he said it might actually feel better. :(
I did some research last night and found a treatment that I am going to look into. The closest doctor is in Cincinnati, so it better work. We will see....hopefully they accept my insurance.
I don't seem to feel as bad today. But that may be due to my pain pill I took earlier. Who knows! I just don't want to be down with this much longer.

Oh Cat and Kari! That is so awful. I do hope both of you find some relief from your pain very soon. Also, would you like me to pick up any new VMK items that might come out just in case you aren't able to get on to play?

One treatment that seemed to help my mother was using a TENS unit. I think the ENS part is Electric Nerve Stimulation or something close to that. She had four electrode things to put on various places on her leg (they looked like the things put on your chest for an EKG). The control unit hooked onto her pants at her waist and had four dials for setting the amount of electric shock each pad gave her leg. I guess it worked by stimulating the nerve enough to keep it from spazzing out most of the time. The major negative for her was my younger brothers were toddlers and they would accidently bump the dials when they climbed into her lap. She'd get a jolt down her leg and scream but the pain eased up when she reset the dial. This was maybe 30 years ago so I don't know if they offer this type of treatment anymore. I think her pain eventually stopped but I don't know how long it took, I was in college at the time and we weren't very civil to each other. I don't think she has problems with sciatica now. If she does, it's smaller flare ups that don't last long enough for her to say anything about them.

It’s a small world after all.........

I actually had that treatment about 25 years ago, in my early 20s. I've been thinking about going to the chiropractor this past week.

Today (Tuesday) has been very good so far, very little pain. Hopefully it just needs time, and I'm not a spring chicken any more. I've been meaning to ask my doctor about the VaxD treatment, you know the one where they put you on the rack and stretch you like medieval torture.

And seriously, I'm glad to hear today was a good day. I hope this becomes a trend! :goodvibes

One of my closest friends slipped a disc in her back and it gave her terrible sciatica. Like you, she had no sensation in her leg and the reflexes had gone too. On Monday she went into hospital to have an injection to repair the ruptured disk, it's like an epidural. If it doesn't work she may have to have the disk removed but so far things are looking good.
I hope you start to feel much better soon, sending some more pixie dust and hugs.

How are you feeling this morning? Hopefully you are getting better.

More Pixie Dust for a speedy recovery.

I have been "better" this week as well. I had no pain on Sunday and MOnday and Tuesday I had pain in the morning that went away after taking my pain pill and stayed gone all day. Today on the other hand, the muscles in my leg are all tight and very painful, but I don't have the sciatic pain. So, it's one thing after another.
I had that nerve stimulation therapy a few times in a chiropractor office.
My next step is either a deep tissue massage or what they call ART (active release technique).
I feel like people think I am a hypochondriac. I am only 28 years old and shouldn't be feeling this way :(

Kari, many hugs to you. I understand about the feeling hypochondriac - since it doesn't show on the outside they look at you with a questioning look.

Also when I have to explain I can't go somewhere or do something with them because of my back or visit a certain friend who lives on the second story of a building (can't climb stairs for the past 2 weeks), I feel they think I'm complaining when I was really just explaining why I can't go. So after a time I stop talking about it, and they tend to think it went away when in truth it didn't.

It's been a good couple of days for me, went to Kmart and didn't use a chair today, it hurt some but nothing like 2 weeks ago. I'm just trying to build myself back up.

Cat, I hope you continue to feel better each and every day. The same goes for you Kari. Nobody deserves to suffer with that much pain! People with back pain are treated very much the same as people with depression. We get called whiners and complainers when all we want is to have someone help us feel better. Instead everyone seems to want to ignore our problems with the hope that the problems will just magically go away.

Please keep me updated. I do care and don't mind listening to you. :listen: Never feel the need to pretend things are better around me.
