Well, all my bras are underwire and I had no problem. So I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.

thanks everyone i just had to know before i went as i just bought 4 and tehy are all underwire lol. i thought i might have to go shopping again lol

I dont wear a single bra with out them (large boosums are sometimes a hassle) and Ive never set any alarm off.

Ok then I must be the oddball because EVERY time I wear an underwire bra thru airport security I am then searched.......EVERY time.......I refuse to wear underwire when riding a plane......lol

I have a pretty "supportive" underwire, and I have never set off airport security in the US. I did set off security on a Caribbean island once. I think their monitor was a little more sensitive. They used the "wand" metal detector and realized that my chest area was what was setting off the alarm. They smiled and let me go! :rotfl:

When we flew to DC on September 18, 2001, my underwire set off their security. Got to be patted down, by a female agent with the *back* of her hand, so that she could tell it was just underwire.

And they ignored the u-shaped 2 inch long metal things I had in my hair to keep my very long hair in a bun. Most of which were missing their metal tips so they were just semi-sharp metal ends...:confused3

But since then, no underwire has set off the alarms.

But my inch+ wide barrette set off the LAX detector last December! As did hubby's shorts zipper.:headache:

While they missed the scrapbooking scissors in my carryon.

It's not that big a deal IF it does set anything off. Yes you'll be wanded or backhanded, LOL, for a second, but it shouldn't take much time at all.

Then again, underwire on a long flight can be painful!

I haven't ever set off the metal dectector but once at Chicago's Ohare, I was searched by the hand held detectors. The female there did ask if I was wearing an undwire because it was detected by the device. I was travelling with my flat chested (female!) boss, and she thought it was the funniest thing she had ever seen!

I think I had mine set it off a few times, once I was asked if I had on an underwire bra, they wanded my chest and sent me off. The rest of the time I was wanded.

BUT!!!!!!!!! A few times it turns out it was not my bra, but one of my bracelets that set off the alarm. They made me take off the bracelet and then re-enter the scanner and no beep.

This includes airport scanners and the courthouse scanners I have gone through (can I say how much it stinks to get called three times in two years to do Jury Duty :scared: ).

Overall I never found it a big enough issue to not support the girls, and skip the underwire! But I was never patted down.

you do realize they make underwire bras for women with small chests too, right?

Some folks get all the luck! :upsidedow

And I agree with other posters - just because some bras have set things off doesn't mean you should not wear one. They'll figure it out quickly and send you on your way. Do what you need to do for comfort and support!
