We took the boys to see it tonight. What a great movie! The kids loved it!

Even though there were a few things with the horse that were unrealistic (I've had horses for years) it still made for a really great story. I just wish I hadn't watched the History channels special on Frank Hopkins last night

Opinions anyone???

How old are your boys? Im planning on taking my DS11 tomorrow

Mine are 7 and 13. The 7 year old liked it but maybe wasn't as "into" it as the 13 year old. There is blood / violence in it. Mainly when Hidalgo gets injured (blood). There are also quite a few gun fights etc... and it is PG 13 -

Here's a link to a good parental movie review website.

I have. Seen it. Loved it. Especially loved the action sequences in it. Some of the best I have ever seen. And it is good to see Omar Sharif again. I think this will become one of my favorite Disney films.

I have to agree! Saw it last week and give it 4 out of 5 stars.

What was wrong with the Hopkins' show?

My 10 yr old son saw it and said it was great but some of it was sad according to him. My husband also said it was good.

I also saw it last weekend. I thought it was awesome. My DH thought it was going to be a stinker, but he ended up liking it also. Just an great movie, good story.

We saw it last week and really enjoyed it. :) Left us wanting to know more about the true story behind the movie.

After watching this "true" story on DVD last night, I searched the net for more information. It turns out that the entire movie is a FRAUD. It is not based on a true story and Disney knew it all along. There was never a 3,000 mile race across the Arabian desert. Frank Hopkins never went there. Nor did he win a race across America. Nor was he at Wounded Knee. He was a man that made up stories. The fraud was discovered 34 years ago.

As for the film itself, it was so unbelievable, so over the top. I couldn't figure out where they were actually racing. 3,000 miles? That's why I wanted to look it up. And it was very racist. The movie itself was just a muddled bore. Shame on Disney for this cinematic travesty.

There are more links all over the net.

Interesting, wtg2000. I saw it last night on DVD and it was mildly entertaining, but I agree that it was totally unrealistic. I really hope it’s not true because it made me sick how cruel it was to those horses, practically riding them to death for money.

I watched it yesterday afternoon, and if Viggo had not been in it I wouldn't have liked it at all. He was the only reason I wanted to see it.
