We are thinking about trying Ohana during our Aug/Sept Trip and want to know whether or not they still have the shaved ice in the pails for the kids??

Thanks.

No. I saw the Food Network special and wished that they served the pail to my DGD. She would have loved it. The dessert was really good though.

'Ohana. Think Hawaii and not Ireland.;)
I believe the pail is still available as you can purchase a variety of different desserts there. The bread pudding automatically comes with the meal.

Oh that Bread Pudding!!!
My DH said last night that he thought he could drive down last night just to have some!!! So yummy!!

We were there in January and were not offered any dessert but the bread pudding. Would you need to ask for the pail?

It used to be that as a first timer to 'Ohana, patrons were given "the tour" of the restaurant before being seated and that included a "sneak peek" at the desserts offered. The pail was part of that display along with other desserts. Now the bread pudding is fantastic, but my understanding is that it is a replacement for the pineapple with caramel sauce that used to be served with dinner. So, my assumption is the pail and the other desserts are still available if you ask your server.

When they switched to the bread pudding, they got rid of the additional dessert choices. Only the bread pudding is available there now.

I've read that they have other offerings for children for their meal. I seriously doubt that my DD5 will like the bread pudding. I'd be more than willing to buy the sandpail thing OOP (we saw it on the Food Network yesterday, too - soo cute!).

I guess the only way to know for sure is to call. I know I have seen children eating the shaved ice/pail since the menu change took place.

We'll be there in basically 2 weeks. I will find out for sure then. :)

We still have the shaved ice pails on request- just ask your server. As you walk into the restaurant, we point out the "hui hui" or the cold kitchen, and you can see a white machine labeled "Hawaii's Finest" just beyond the partition wall- that's the shave ice machine. This item is not on our menu and is not regularly mentioned, but we can and do serve it as part of the feast if you ask.

As far as other desserts go, we normally only offer the bread-pudding ala mode with banana's foster sauce, however, if you ask very politely and we have the ingredients available, we may be able to accommodate other requests (namely our old dessert, pineapple chunks with a caramel dipping sauce).

Can you request something for a child besides the "normal" offerings (like chicken or grilled cheese)?

Hi csaribay, speaking of the children's options (which I think are chicken tenders/fries, mac-n-cheese and grilled cheese, etc.) since they charge the children's buffet price for those selections ($10.99 I believe) does that mean if my son started out with chicken tenders and fries and then wanted some mac-n-cheese or grilled cheese that they would do it for the same one price of $10.99? Thanks in advance, we'll be there July 8th for our 5th or 6th time! :)

The children's on-request menu includes chicken fingers, hot dogs, hamburgers, mac-n-cheese, peanut butter and jelly and grilled cheese (w/fries and other typical sides). The meal is all inclusive, no matter how many on request items you order. It's $25.99 for adults and $11.99 for kids. As I tell everyone, come very hungry!

Thank you for the helpful information! I hope I remember to ask for the shaved ice in the pail. Sounds cute, what is it exactly??

I would love to know what it is. Didn't catch it on Food Network. Is it like a slushee?
