I do not have Nan, did you want in??? who else am I missing?? that is the list so far.

Kara will be home soon - unless she missed the school bus - again

I *still* have nightmares about missing the school bus!

The problem with my school is it was a county school and was a looooooooooong walk home when I missed the bus~yes, I said when.

Nan, if going to the mall is that big an issue, find a different place you'd like to see Santa. We've had local banks, florists, vet groups, etc, have Santa visit every holiday. :scratchin I'd say wait til you get to DTD but that line is probably the longest I've ever seen in Santa Clause history :faint:

Jeff,

are you and your gang interested in the FE group?? If so, can you let me know?? I think the natives are getting restless when it comes to finalizing those numbers!!!

Nah, our group isn't really interested... I guess since it wasn't a part of any of their 12 previous cruises. :snooty:

Sure, I want to add my mom, JoAnne (81), Molly (DD 11) and Wilson (DS 8)

So - anyone - was "our" cruise ever "sold out" meaning there wasn't anymore availability at least through the website, etc? I was messing around on the disneycruise website today and was curious (as I know final payment was due recently or I thought so) and there are categories 6, 7, 8 and 9 all available ~ with two adults priced. I then went back and priced for two adults and two children and all it gave me back was a category 9....weird as I thought when the ship met its "quota" for children, regardless of category, it no longer accepted reservations for children.

Funny Wilson has been dreaming lately that he is late for class and she runs in wearing only underware :scared1: Weird kid.

There really are not that many places that have Santa around here. The mall of course and then there are some community breakfasts, but they are sign up deals and I'm just not willing to lose a Saturday morning for this.

I think we will just make it a mall planned date and then we have them, or I'll ask the kids and they can decide yes or no.

being sold out doesn't mean that it has reached it limit on children. How did you get the info that it had reached it's kid quota?

Ok even weirder - when it allowed me to select second OR FIRST dining - I know that wasn't available (first dining) a few months ago and at least as far back as of September 07 when we booked (we actually like second dining so it didn't phase us but just thought interesting).

Glad to see I am on the list, as we are definitely doing it! Kelly, I will warn you that it is possible that even after you set a final date for signup, people will appear from nowhere to ask to get in -- I ran the FE list on our PC cruise in August (over 130 cabins!) and it made me crazy -- you either have to be mean and say no, or anger people who have gone to a lot of trouble getting or making an exact number of gifts. My advice is to set a final date -- pretty soon -- and then if someone shows up, give them the option of being added to the bottom of the list. That way, anyone who has a lot of gifts can just give them some, and those who made something special might just throw a few pieces of candy in there or something. Thanks for organizing this, Kelly!

Sorry - I didn't mean it met it's kid quota but what I meant was I found it weird that with two adults, no kids it gave me the option of category 6-9 BUT with two adults, two kids it ONLY gave me an option of category 9. Why would it ONLY give an option of category 9 and not 6, 7, 8? I was using the word quota to mean that I have read about them having room on board for adults but not children even if there were rooms available. I just find it strange that it "restricted" the category of choosing when kids were involved.

It's possible that the cat 6, 7, and 8 cabins only had room for three, not four -- some of them don't have the fold down bed. Try again with one child and see what happens. It's strange to me that a NYE cruise would not be sold out this close to sailing -- it must be the economy.

I didn't think about the rooms with non-fold down beds. And yep - it adjusted to show the category 6-9 with one child.

I also found it strange that the cruise wasn't "sold out" because I swear just a few months ago I was poking around on the site to see if there was anything available and it didn't even give the option of selecting the December 27th Western Cruise - just the December 13th Western Cruise. I can't imagine that many people would have cancelled this close due to the economy?

Well, the paid in full date is coinciding with the worst of this fall's economic tumble -- and if people were driving to the port -- or hadn't bought airline tickets yet -- they might well cancel rather than pay off the cruise if things looked bad with their job and/or retirement account, etc.

I know hubby and mine retirement accounts have taken a huge hit and so have the kids college accounts BUT we have our stuff in "riskier" investments due to the age. I know hubby's father is a year from retirement and has most of his items in "slow" investments but way less risky - which is what we all know to do as we get closer to retirement. I guess I just don't understand that if people are close to retirement why this latest economic downturn would effect them as much (they should have their investments going to money market accounts, cd's, bonds, etc. low interest return but very low risk).

I feel bad though for those that can't go. Hopefully they are already planning a 2010 cruise and we will hopefully be out of this by then. I know wishful thinking...:):wizard:

You are right, a few months ago, it was "sold out". The final payment will usually kick some out, and obviously with the economy, a few more. Maybe we can all get an upgrade pixiedust:

I can only wish for an upgrade....:) Every trip to Disneyworld and DCL I have NEVER gotten an upgrade....nor have I ever won the lottery or done well at the casinos. I'm not a very "lucky" person.

You are correct about the retirement accounts, but there is a mental aspect to this -- even if you don't need the retirement money for a long time and know on one level that it will rebound over time, when a person sees that they have lost $XXXXX, it makes them feel anxious about money and less likely to splurge on a vacation. Sadly, lack of spending then feeds the recession . . .

Transferring the deposit amount to a later cruise is probably what many did.

ah ha, but that would imply that Disney has and uses logic when any of us are looking/working with their website. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: maybe the rooms for 6, 7 & 8 are only for 3 people at this stage???

Duh, thinking on the same lines, just didn't read you fast enough and posted that same thought...:rolleyes1
