NYE Western Cruise 2008 - New Thread

I have been checking out the excursions for our various ports of call. Has anyone done the Dunebuggy or Jeep tour on Cozumel? Also I notice when you book through DCL the min. age is 10 (our son will be 8), but you can book direct with Island Marketing Ltd. and the min. age is 3 (it may not be the same tour operator).

I know a lot of people do not advise booking tours with anyone except directly through DCL, any advice?

Also does anyone have any recomendations for shore excursions?

last year when we did this same cruise (Easter not NY), we did our own thing in KW - SOOOO much to do & see - plan to do the same this trip. We did the pirate encounter in GC - it was fun - DS really had a good time...if interested - i can give you more details....in Coz, we did the Dune Buggy / Snorkeling excursion....it was okay...but the people in the Jeeps....looked like they had WAY MORE fun!!!!!!! My DS & friend Rus will be scuba diving in GC & possibly Coz as well....Chel & I totally plan to shop in GC & see as much of that as possible...& i think in Coz - i'm going to stay on the ship & enjoy all it has to offer for a whole day:woohoo: in CC - we're definitely having the cabana massages - did that last year....ohhhh so relaxing!!!! i would LOVE to try that parasail thing too!!!

Thanks for the advice. We have a lot to think about. We have a lot going on this summer, but I would like to have a basic plan put together in the next couple of months (come on passporter).

Here is what we have happening this summer.

Claudia is going to a teacher's conference for a week in early July at (get ready for this) ... Disneyworld!! I am of course freaking out because I am the true Disney member of the family. I can only hope that the courses run about 20 hours a day :rolleyes1 Sorry honey ;)

In order to exact my revenge for her "working trip", I am going to Montreal with a friend to see James Taylor in concert.

Last but not least the grand daddy of them all. On July 29th I am scheduled for orthognathic jaw surgery, which is by the way about 6 months behind schedule. When we booked our cruise I was sure that I would have my braces off when we went, but now it's a crap shoot.
When most guys turn 40 they get a sports car or a motorcycle, me....I get braces. Great way to relive your youth.:)

Better late than never, Artman, about the braces. And the jaw surgery, I assume it's related to the braces?? At least you have a nice summer trip planned, even though it's not WDW. It's all good.:thumbsup2 Yay for Claudia!

I had a busy day today, but managed to squeeze in lunch with a couple of girlfriends. I've been working on two storybook/scrapbooks that need to be finished by tomorrow as promised, and they came out so nice. That money is going right into my cruise account. I have another one I'll be starting for a 6 year old girl's birthday, commissioned by her aunt, and she wants it to be an adventure story about the little girl and an imaginary monkey. Since she was about four years old, this sweet girl alway said she has an imaginary monkey she named Meep-Meep, so Meep-Meep is sort-of going to come to life for her, at least in book form!

I'm about to crash into bed with my Passporter.:goodvibes

Hope everyone had a good day!

Where in Disney is the conference?

Aisling, I am glad you are moving forward with the books. Brittany and I decided I should make CM books from our Cali trip, one for each city we visited~

i would LOVE to try that parasail thing too!!!

And when you're waaaay up there, let go ( you won't fall off), spread out your arms, and shout, "I can fly, I can fly, I can flyyyyy", ala Peter Pan!

The jaw surgery is to correct my overbite and crooked bottom jaw. A was beginning to wear my teeth unevenly, so it was either fix it or eventually loose the teeth. Just wish I had done it 20 years ago, but your right better late than never. Very looking forward to be back to normal, at least as normal as I get.

I second that "Yay for Claudia" I like to bust her chops about the trip but I hope she has a great time. She is going with a friend who is a non Disney person (this person is going to be educated, imagine that:confused3 ) Hopefully Claudia can convert her.

Where in Disney is the conference?

It is a conference on cooperative learning at the DTD Hilton July 7-11. (I am so proud I knew that without asking my wife, see honey I pay attention sometimes).

Good news to report: Chad has officially completed his first year of Graduate School at St. John's Univ. with straight As, 4.0. By cruise time, he'll have his Masters in Political Science/International Peacekeeping! I'd LOVE for him to just keep going full time to get his PhD, but he really needs to start his career and get a job, so he'll be working on his doctorate part-time. Imagine if he continued full-time, he'd have his doctorate by age 25! But it's time to start working in his field. He has three part-time jobs, nothing related to his career field, so he has some important decisions to make very soon.

Artman, my DH Mel has been having extensive dental work done for the past few months, gum surgeries, etc. I told him to get it overwith now, or in the future we'll be buying him wooden false teeth for Father's Day! So his teeth should be all purty by cruise time.:thumbsup2

It's a beautiful sunny day. How's everyone this morning?

:rotfl2: :goodvibes :thumbsup2

That was too cute~

There are sooo many conference option at Disney, I never even thought of the Hilton...Coronado has one, the Grand Floridian, the Swan and Dolphin...The Hilton is in a great spot! When they do have time, I believe the Hilton even uses Disney (sort of) transportation!

It's supposed to get up to 78 today :woohoo:

I've got some running around to do and told DS I'd help him with his laundry...it's official, he's moving to Philly on June 2nd :(

CONGRATULATIONS CHAD!!!!! Well done!!!!

Come any time you can/want to!

Wow about Adrian! He's all grown up now, moving out. It'll probably feel so different with him not living at home anymore, but I know you're proud of him for taking this step forward in his life. Any details you want to share? Will he have room mates? Have you seen the place? Is he excited??? Tell!

Have you seen how many pics I took?

San Francisco alone would be 150 photos~

Mom does!

Mom, you gonna try parasailing this trip?

Cool~

John is mad at the guys. Dad got us a membership at the Philly zoo for Mother's Day! ...so now John has he and I going to the beach on saturday (after I go register) and the zoo on sunday :cool2:

Adrian is so excited he was bouncing when he told me :)

You all know what I mean~

He's moving into a house with 3 other guys his age. I've been encouraging him to "try" it. He's never lived away from home and you all also know what a different world it will be for him. He's known the others all thru high school. Brittany has seen it. Sounds affordable...you know I'll go see it before he moves out of here ;)

John's issue with it is it's further for Adrian to get to work = more gas $ and more time in traffic for the boy.

Hey Tig, just read this and thought you may enjoy, it even has a Disney reference.

Sidney Crosby's cell phone rings to the tune of Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dyin'"...

Sidney Crosby: Hello?

Lanny McDonald: Hello, Sidney? This is Lanny McDonald.

SC: Whoa. Seriously? Is this a joke?

LM: No joke, son.

SC: Wow, that's awesome! I loved watching you when I was a kid! Your moustache rocks!

LM: I know, Sid, and that's actually why I'm calling you on behalf of the Sports Moustache Society.

SC: The who with the what now?

LM: The Sports Moustache Society. We meet monthly to discuss the state of moustaches in sport, share tips on grooming and waxing, and brainstorm ways to make moustaches more prominent in society. Once a year, we induct someone into the Sports Moustache Hall of Fame. This year's inductee was Dave Stieb.

SC: Really? Wow, that's... kinda cool, I guess.

LM: We certainly think so. But the reason why I'm calling you is that, as the chairman of this group, I've been asked to tell you that it would be in the best interests of promoting the aesthetic virtues of moustaches in sports if you would shave off that disgusting smear over your lip.

SC: I'm... I'm sorry?

LM: You heard me, punk. Look, I know you're trying to be "one of the guys" by growing facial hair for the playoffs like a big boy, but you look ridiculous and you're making us proud moustache-wearers look bad.

SC: Now wait a minute! I know my facial hair looks a little sparse right now but I plan on taking the Penguins right to the finals so there will be plenty of time for it to grow in.

LM: Oh, please. I know facial hair, son, and you can't grow it. It looks like your mommy forgot to wash your face before she tucked you in with your blankie last night. You look like you've got pubes under your nose.

SC: But it's my good luck charm, Lanny! If I shave it and we don't win the Cup, I'll feel like I let my team down!

LM: Listen, son. Did your parents ever let you watch the movie Dumbo?

SC: I think so. Is that the Disney movie with the flying elephant?

LM: That's right. Well, remember when Dumbo thought he couldn't fly without his magic feather, and the mouse told him the feather had nothing to do with it and the magic was within him?

SC: Yeah! Yeah, I remember that!

LM: Well, Sidney, your power does not come from your pathetic excuse for a moustache. Your talent comes from within. You're a star, kid.

SC: Yeah, I guess I am a star! I don't need this playoff moustache. I'll shave it off for you, Lanny!

LM: Thanks, kid. I thank you. The Society thanks you. Canada thanks you.

SC: No problem! One last thing, though. You were a great hockey player yourself, Lanny. Why did you have that moustache?

LM: Oh, well that's because my moustache is magical. Very, very magical. Most people don't know this but I'm actually 174 years old.

SC: NOOOOOO WAAAAYYYY!

LM: Well, I shouldn't keep you, Sidney. You've got some shaving to do.

SC: Yeah, I'll do it right after practice!

LM: Good boy. Now if you'll excuse me, my wife just made some soup and she needs me to strain it for her.

Just for anyone that doesn't know this is Sidney

Penguins pull within one win of Stanley Cup Finals
Marian Hossa scored a pair of goals, and Sidney Crosby added a couple of helpers as the Pittsburgh Penguins improved to an incredible 11-1 in the playoffs and moved within one win of the Stanley Cup Finals with a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

and this is why it's funny ;)

I still Love my Flyers~

Hey, at least your team is still in it. I'm not a die hard, but I am a Bruins fan. We have a friend who plays for them.

Adrian is so excited he was bouncing when he told me :)

Spoken like a true Tigger!

Oh, Artman's dialogue was about hockey! That's why I didn't understand a word of it! I almost had to call Nan on the Repo to have her explain it to me, or at least be befuddled together!:hippie:

Do ya think you could get a text message to Nan?

They are at Aruba toiday...she hasn't checked in and hasn't shown up on any of the posts yet :confused3

Was that a Tigger patch? He's cute!

::yes:: DH - (John) was keeping a playoff beard,

he shaved it all off last night :(

Mom, you gonna try parasailing this trip?

The thought is there.

I was really looking forward to it last time. At least until they cancelled it.

BTW the flowers look real good in the goddess jar with the peacock feathers.

Good morning,

I just out of morning Mass, and I saw one of our priests blessing someone's car in the parking lot, so I took a pic for your viewing pleasure.

Can you tell I'm already bored today??
